I'm wondering if musicbrainz might be interested in this: "I have 89,830 sound clips of rare records. What should I do?" https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6838757
      • 2013-12-03 33710, 2013

      • JonnyJD_
chrisirc: not really sure, since we usually only store information about complete tracks and our fingerprinting also works on complete tracks (yielding different fingerprints for the snippets)
      • 2013-12-03 33713, 2013

      • JonnyJD_
they could be stored on archive.org, though
      • 2013-12-03 33715, 2013

      • JonnyJD_
we do store relationships for "free download", but currently also only for full tracks and no snippets

*sigh* it is really frustrating that githubs news feed does *intentionally* *not* include comments on your own pull requests unless you start watching the whole target repository

probably somebody thought this isn't needed, since you have email notifications for these anyways
      • 2013-12-03 33748, 2013

      • JonnyJD_
it does unclutter the news feed from stuff "you already know"
      • 2013-12-03 33719, 2013

      • Mineo
in that case it doesn't make sense that the news feed does contain entries for which email notifications are sent
      • 2013-12-03 33745, 2013

      • JonnyJD_
Mineo: although I do have some comments in the news feeds. What do you mean by "your own pull requests", PRs you opened?
      • 2013-12-03 33751, 2013

      • Mineo
        yes
      • 2013-12-03 33759, 2013

      • JonnyJD_
or PRs you opened in your own projects?
      • 2013-12-03 33713, 2013

      • Mineo
no, PRs you opened to a repository you're not watching
      • 2013-12-03 33757, 2013

      • JonnyJD_
ah, that would only be Picard, for me
      • 2013-12-03 33751, 2013

      • Mineo
that's exactly why it's stupid, there's no reason to special-case this
      • 2013-12-03 33740, 2013

      • JonnyJD_
well, I don't think this is special cased. It's probably that the "watch repo" bucket is added to the feed, but not the "watch PR" bucket. Sometimes a comment is in both, and sometimes not.
      • 2013-12-03 33701, 2013

      • Mineo
and how does it make sense to add one but not the other to the feed? I mean, this basically means that you can't use the news feed because you might miss a notification that you only receive via email/web notification
      • 2013-12-03 33726, 2013

      • Mineo
(both of which you can disable if you're not aware that means missing some comments)
      • 2013-12-03 33728, 2013

      • JonnyJD_
I use the news feed on github similar to the one in Facebook: Only when I have some spare time and want to browse a bit. Everything that is important gives a notification per mail
      • 2013-12-03 33715, 2013

      • JonnyJD_
the news feed is just a toy.. basically.
      • 2013-12-03 33733, 2013

      • Mineo
unless you use the rss feed :)
      • 2013-12-03 33726, 2013

      • JonnyJD_
hm, I actually have the RSS feed somewhere. But I don't really use it as much as my notification mails
