one of the MTG guys wants to know what our preferred means for reading MBIDs from a variety of digital audio files. (read: not just mp3)

Do we/MusicBrainz have a preferred way? Shouldn't all metadata libraries just be able to read MBID tags?

Unless we code our own library (and I think we could spend our coding resources on better things...), I'm not sure it's good if we make an "official recommendation".

nope, never been a big fan of beatport. I like Bleep and Boomkat these days. I used to shop at Juno and Chemical Records/Red Eye Records

So, this mini update from me has been a long time coming because I couldn't decide what to say, if anything, or how to say it.

And I can't say even now that I've /decided/... just more like, that I guess it's about time I said something.

And this is where some of you are thinking, who the heck is rvedotrc and what are they talking about?

rvedotrc: ah, didn't recognize the irc name. Rachel, right?

Well, the thing is: I used to be djce (a name more familiar within MB), but a couple of months ago I changed by name, and with it, my gender, title, and irc nick.

So, now my name is now Rachel

(Also, female pronouns please - "she", "her", and so forth).

Some of you - particularly those that have met me in the last 18 months or - won't find this news surprising.

But others probably didn't know, and I guess it helps to know, just for context.

My friends, family and colleagues outside of MB have been great, supportive, lovely, and I'm sure you all will be too.

Nothing else changes... I'm still a former MB hacker, sometime MB sysadmin,

Worth pointing out that login names, domains, etc. take a while to update

the decay of me going from acid2 to ocharles was tedious enough. i think you probably have a harder time :)

(though we might introduce someone other than you to setting up openvpn keys/etc. at some point, given bitmap just started and presumably we'll want to add others in the future)
