ianmcorvidae already has tickets, the broader thing is in the topic for the meeting
ruaok

ianmcorvidae
(not sure what our official line on it is, wanted to nail it down)
ruaok
I found tickets I like from google flights, but it says: call air canada.
huh? one leg is code share on air canada.
ianmcorvidae
I guess the special price is only through them
weird for that to happen, I guess, but...
navap
Ah I didn't see the topic.
ruaok
I've not been able to convince any site to gimme that price.
navap
I've got an exam at the same time the meeting starts so I might not make it back in time for that part of the dev chat
rvedotrc joined the channel
kepstin-work would probably fly to chicago via air canada; but the the flight would be a codeshare on united.

bitmap: did check out a copy of the syswiki pages yet?

one of the MTG guys wants to know what our preferred means for reading MBIDs from a variety of digital audio files. (read: not just mp3)
mutagen?
derwin
I would presume so
ianmcorvidae
I suppose it's as preferred as anything seeing as picard uses it
I think it even recently got an id3v2.3 patch
seems beets also uses mutagen (not really surprisingly, but, y'know)
derwin
yes, it does
Freso
Do we/MusicBrainz have a preferred way? Shouldn't all metadata libraries just be able to read MBID tags?
ianmcorvidae
Freso: I figure the notion was just "hey, what's your top recommendation"
Freso
Unless we code our own library (and I think we could spend our coding resources on better things...), I'm not sure it's good if we make an "official recommendation".
ianmcorvidae: Sure. Just thinking aloud.

ruaok: I have syswiki checked out, is there anything you want me to look at first?
ruaok: I don't have a twitter account so I'm not sure about the notifications - if you'd prefer I get them I can create an account
ruaok
start with NetworkTopology
bitmap
ok
ianmcorvidae
heh, list of VMs there is rather out of date
ianmcorvidae fixes
CallerNo6
ian, where's that list?
ianmcorvidae
CallerNo6: private sysadmin repository we just gave bitmap access to :P
bitmap pulls ian's changes
CallerNo6
would it help if it were a link to the blog instead of a list that you need to update manually?
ianmcorvidae
CallerNo6: not those VMs
ijabz joined the channel
CallerNo6 sits back down
CallerNo6: Xen VMs running on our host 'hoser' -- the forums, wiki, a few other things are run on them :)
the file in question has a list of all our servers, but some slacker wasn't updating it after making VMs to run various internal services *whistles innocently*
ocharles
not to mention pinoprime
ianmcorvidae
well, that one at least is intended to be temporary!
ruaok
bitmap: just got confirmation that you're now in the contact list for digital west
Part of me really feels for those employees. The other part of me hated overpriced beatport anyway
ruaok
oh, I thought you liked it
ocharles
nope, never been a big fan of beatport. I like Bleep and Boomkat these days. I used to shop at Juno and Chemical Records/Red Eye Records
beatport is like the iTunes of electronic music

ruaok
crap. I forgot to send in a review. :(
kepstin-work thinks that itunes would prefer it if they were the itunes of electronic music.
ocharles
kepstin-work: :)
Did you T440p arrive?

ruaok
bang!
kepstin-work
nope, the shipping date got pushed back a week :/
ocharles
lame. mine was meant to ship today - I doubt it did
ruaok
meeting time.

rvedotrc listens
kepstin-work
mine was supposed to ship today originally :(
rvedotrc
Or… shall I go first ruaok? :-)
ruaok
I'm sorry for having flaked on my review for the last week.
rvedotrc: please do! take the heat off me. :)
quick reminder.
rvedotrc => djce
rvedotrc
ok. /me prepares copy+paste.
So, this mini update from me has been a long time coming because I couldn't decide what to say, if anything, or how to say it.
And I can't say even now that I've /decided/... just more like, that I guess it's about time I said something.
And this is where some of you are thinking, who the heck is rvedotrc and what are they talking about?
kepstin-work
rvedotrc: ah, didn't recognize the irc name. Rachel, right?
rvedotrc
Well, the thing is: I used to be djce (a name more familiar within MB), but a couple of months ago I changed by name, and with it, my gender, title, and irc nick.
So, now my name is now Rachel
rvedotrc waves
(Also, female pronouns please - "she", "her", and so forth).
Some of you - particularly those that have met me in the last 18 months or - won't find this news surprising.
But others probably didn't know, and I guess it helps to know, just for context.
My friends, family and colleagues outside of MB have been great, supportive, lovely, and I'm sure you all will be too.
ruaok
hi Rachel!
rvedotrc
It's worth pointing out that I'm a lot happier and more confident, thanks for asking ;-)
Nothing else changes... I'm still a former MB hacker, sometime MB sysadmin,
and I'll still lurk in the channel, and I'll still pop up from time to time.
I appreciate you popping into make this announcement.
rvedotrc
long time lurker :-)
ruaok was unsure how to proceed with this.
me too
hence the delay.
ruaok
that said, anyone have any questions or comments for rvedotrc ?
ianmcorvidae
man, dunno if it even counts as being a lurker, you know far too much ;)
rvedotrc
Worth pointing out that login names, domains, etc. take a while to update
so although my oldname is gone,
it'll take a while for my old nick to fall out of use.
ianmcorvidae
anyway, good to be clear on pronouns and such, otherwise no questions/comments here
ocharles
the decay of me going from acid2 to ocharles was tedious enough. i think you probably have a harder time :)
ianmcorvidae
(though we might introduce someone other than you to setting up openvpn keys/etc. at some point, given bitmap just started and presumably we'll want to add others in the future)
kepstin-work
ocharles: you should update your bio there too^ it still says acid2.
ianmcorvidae
(entirely unrelated to the topic at hand though :P)
ocharles
ha
ianmcorvidae
I think the trick is finding something on that page that *isn't* out of date
kepstin-work
hmm. as your mbz username; i don't think we support changing peoples usernames yet, eh.
not that that would stop you ;)
ianmcorvidae
we do sometimes via UPDATE editor SET :)
we can't regenerate the ha1 though, so people have to change their passwords after :P
ruaok
ok, moving on.
ruaok gives a quick run-down of last week.
cake.

ianmcorvidae
:)
kepstin-work
it was a wonderful cake.
ruaok
that took a surprisingly large amount of my week.
but the blog posts cover what has gone one.

on friday we received a $22,500 check from amazon.
I have a new primary contact and I have a direct contact in Amazon's Accounts Payable department.
that should fix future problems.

awwwwww :)

ruaok
I'll do another blog post in a day or so once we funds have cleared the bank.
after giving them a drubbing, I'd like to praise them for stepping up and getting this fixed.
ok, thats it from me.
any general discussion or other comments?
ruaok inserts one final item before the agenda starts
ianmcorvidae
nothing on that, one question for ocharles
ruaok
I'd like to officially welcome bitmap to the team.
