Hey, I'm trying to get my Musicbrainz VM up and running. I'm using Ubuntu Server 12.04 with VirtualBox. It's up and running, and I've built search indices, but searches fail with various errors every time I try to search.

This particular time, it's: read timeout at /usr/share/perl5/LWP/Protocol/http.pm line 452, line 2.

Hmm, it seems it only happens with my testing search artist, for which for some reason Linkin Park came to mind. Everything else searches fine. Perhaps it just has good taste.

it would be great to have a tracklist similarity indicator for releases, to detect very similar releases in various release groups (ie. 13 tracks vs 14 tracks, or 12 tracks vs 12 tracks with few spelling errors...), just a thought
2014-01-07 00707, 2014

yeah, I've thought similarly before

it's a specific enough tool that I'm certainly not going to say "oh yeah, I'll do that next week!" or anything, but I don't think such a feature would go amiss

hello everybody, I would like to use cover arts from musicbrainz in my webradio player. I receive strings like "Nirvana - Polly". What is the most direct way to get some imagery for that string from your API?
2014-01-07 00746, 2014
sscarduzio
i understood I have to know the "release" before querying the cover arts archive
2014-01-07 00708, 2014
sscarduzio
Therefore, I need at least 2 API calls..
2014-01-07 00725, 2014
kuno
sscarduzio: correct
2014-01-07 00745, 2014
sscarduzio
I didn't find the way to go from "Artist - Song" to release id
in such a way that I query the system for BOTH the artist and the song, since there's multiple bands with the same name in the world
2014-01-07 00734, 2014
kuno
sscarduzio: woops, that last line was for you, not Scuttle
2014-01-07 00736, 2014

differenciated ony by the names of their songs
2014-01-07 00746, 2014
sscarduzio
k thanks will look
2014-01-07 00701, 2014
kuno
that answer assumes you have a track name, if you have the album name you will have to adjust the queries a bit. (but it should give you better results, because there are way more songs with the same name than albums :)

I have artist and song name, I do want to make sure I'm looking for a recording such that artist name matches "nirvana" and song name matches "Polly" at the same time
2014-01-07 00729, 2014
sscarduzio
I don't want to search for either Nirvana alone (more than one band has this name) and Polly (more than one band has played a song with this name)
2014-01-07 00703, 2014
sscarduzio
the example looks like it's searching for an artist by name.Right?
maybe a more popular/readable example would have clicked better in my head, I don't know that song :D

sscarduzio: the software that runs on coverartarchive.org is a small python server, which you can run yourself if you want. it needs access to a musicbrainz database. but it would not have any of the actual cover art, because that is all hosted by archive.org.
2014-01-07 00709, 2014
sscarduzio
kuno: clear I cannot and not want to host actual imagery (license does not allow that). I'd love to have the python server installed on my musicbrainz server in EC2. Can I find it on github?

I already have the postgres up and running together with the lucene searcher
