ruaok: hey. wondering if you have aggregate useragent stats yet?

ruaok
I was working on that earlier.

2014-04-14 10432, 2014

if you follow the artist, what do you do?
2014-04-14 10438, 2014
derwin
check the weekly upload for data from them?
2014-04-14 10400, 2014
ruaok
no, in this case, I can forward all the data we've received from the label.
2014-04-14 10412, 2014
derwin
but the case you describe relates to new releases?
2014-04-14 10415, 2014
ruaok
which, in theory constitues all the releases they care about going into MB>
2014-04-14 10416, 2014
derwin
like that's what we most want to cover, no?
2014-04-14 10428, 2014
ruaok
yeah.
2014-04-14 10438, 2014

I need some help. I have been trying desperately to install a mb slave server and everytime I run the 'carton exec -- ./admin/Init.Db.pl --createdb --import tmp/dump/mbdump*.tar.bz2 --echo' command I get the error saying 'DBI connect('dbname=emplate1','postgres',...) failed: could not connect to server: No such file or directory'
2014-04-14 10432, 2014
itshim
I'm about to chuck my computer in the nearest river. This is driving me crazy!!!
2014-04-14 10425, 2014
kepstin-laptop
that's strange, your 'template1' is missing a 't'
2014-04-14 10450, 2014
itshim
that was my mistype on the irc message
2014-04-14 10422, 2014
ianmcorvidae
the message suggests the database server isn't running, or misconfigured
2014-04-14 10442, 2014
kepstin-laptop
so, you have the postgres server running, and can connect via psql as the 'postgres' user?
2014-04-14 10416, 2014
ianmcorvidae
you can test that with 'psql', so yeah -- 'psql -U postgres template1' -- if that doesn't work then the database server may need to be started or reconfigured
2014-04-14 10421, 2014
itshim
kepstin-laptop: yes I can connect just fine

ianmcorvidae: I can connect with that command. I've tried removing postgresql postgresql-server and any postgresql related program/service and reinstalling
2014-04-14 10410, 2014
itshim
and I still get the same error.
2014-04-14 10426, 2014
ianmcorvidae
from the musicbrainz-server folder, try: carton exec -- ./admin/psql SYSTEM
2014-04-14 10433, 2014
ianmcorvidae
(should be the same error, but just confirming)
2014-04-14 10443, 2014
itshim
ianmcorvidae: when i use that command it gives me the exact same result as 'psql -U postgres template1'
2014-04-14 10451, 2014
itshim
no error
2014-04-14 10424, 2014
kepstin-laptop
hmm. how are postgres connections on the local machine done? are they a unix namespace or filesystem socket?
2014-04-14 10442, 2014
ianmcorvidae
it's a filesystem socket, usually in /tmp
2014-04-14 10457, 2014
ianmcorvidae
okay, /admin/psql calls out to regular psql, but it does at least mean it's creating the right shell arguments
2014-04-14 10409, 2014
kepstin-laptop
it could be that the perl library is linked to the wrong libpg, and is getting the wrong socket name
2014-04-14 10423, 2014
ianmcorvidae
yeah, that's possible, I guess
2014-04-14 10446, 2014
itshim
how would I change which libpg it is linked to?
2014-04-14 10422, 2014
itshim
it is possible, since I had 8.4 installed the very first time before install 9.1, but I installed everything and reinstalled 9.1
2014-04-14 10451, 2014
kepstin-laptop
how did you install the perl modules?
2014-04-14 10400, 2014
ianmcorvidae
it'd be the perl module, installed by carton (though the fact you're using carton is also a bit outdated, but oh well)
2014-04-14 10409, 2014
itshim
disregard that last comment, I'm a retartd and was talking about postgresql
2014-04-14 10453, 2014
kepstin-laptop
hmm? we were talking about postgresql too :)
2014-04-14 10407, 2014
kepstin-laptop
(libpq is a part of postgresql)
2014-04-14 10441, 2014
itshim
I installed the perl modules with carton per the instructions in the musicbrainz install file.
2014-04-14 10459, 2014
kepstin-laptop
man, I really should get myself a musicbrainz server set up again... I have no on-hand reference to check stuff
2014-04-14 10406, 2014
itshim
well if libpq is part of postgresql then my comment still stands. :)
2014-04-14 10414, 2014
ianmcorvidae
did you either remove or deliberately reinstall DBIx::Connector after upgrading from 8.4 to 9.1?
2014-04-14 10405, 2014
ianmcorvidae
(also, the main install file hasn't recommended carton in months, that's what I meant about carton being a bit weird)
2014-04-14 10408, 2014
itshim
it is possible i removed it. I definitely did not reinstall it.
itshim: are you sure that that's the *exact same path* "/var/run/postgresql/.s.PGSQL.5432" as you got in the psql trace?
2014-04-14 10440, 2014
kepstin-laptop
hmm. I wonder if it could be a directory permissions issue
2014-04-14 10435, 2014
kepstin-laptop
take a look at an 'ls -ld /var/run/postgresql/.s.PGSQL.5432 /var/run/postgresql'; the output should be like https://dpaste.de/WDLn/raw

you're running these commands all as the 'musicbrainz' user, right?
2014-04-14 10407, 2014
kepstin-laptop
you also don't have something like two terminals sshed into two different machines, right? :)
2014-04-14 10432, 2014
itshim
kepstin-laptop: I am sshed into one machine then sshed in to a tmux session on another machine. what what have to do with anything? all the commands are being ran on the machine with musicbrainz server
2014-04-14 10458, 2014

ianmcorvidae: I deleted and reinstalled those, with no progress :(
2014-04-14 10418, 2014

chirlu` also tends to wonder sometimes why a change to mbserver doesn’t work as expected, until I notice I’m on beta or on the sandbox or whatever instead of the local dev server.

how are we linking the ninjatune page to the artist? "biography"?
2014-04-14 10449, 2014

I see a few have been linked with "official home page" but that doesn't seem right
2014-04-14 10411, 2014

bio makes sense to me. label pages are not official home pages imho
2014-04-14 10435, 2014

2014-04-14 10434, 2014
CallerNo6
hmm. the reason I didn't use 'official homepage' is that the artist already has one of those. A label-page AR makes sense to me.
