what should I use instead? tcng is a discontinued package.

what's your goal for that, and what's the line speeds you're working with?
wondershaper was designed for upload on 1-5mbit "broadband", anything else and it falls apart.
ruaok
this is for MB -- we want to ensure that we stay below our bandwidth allocation.
currently 20mb.
ah, the em1 actually failed to come back up. he.
kepstin-laptop
if any of the pre-up or up commands fails that will happen, yeah
ruaok
I suspect that its the wondershaper stuff. let me take it out and try again
yeah.
kepstin-laptop
best option now is probably to use something based on the current bufferbloat/openwrt stuff, which uses hfsc for limiting and then fq_codel to make things work nicely.
assuming the kernel on the box is new enough to have fq_codel

Linux ernie 3.16.0-33-generic #44~14.04.1-Ubuntu

should be good
ruaok
ha
auto em1
was missing. that would do it.
kepstin-laptop
heh
ruaok
yay. rebooted with iptables loaded. very good.
I got further than I thought I would for today.
I'll see if I can get some actual services running tomorrow.
kepstin-laptop: if you have any links for me to look at for traffic shaping, I'd love it.
kepstin-laptop
yeah, most of the stuff is more complicated than you probably need
i'll poke at it a bit, i'll let you know if I come up with something good
run "watch tc -s -d class show dev <interface>" in a terminal to see what it's doing :)
(if at some point you want particular traffic to be classified to get a higher share, rather than be completely fair, that can be added without too much effort)
right now it's just dumping all traffic into a single bin that gets the entire link.
... I guess I posted that after rob left
maybe I should email it to him.

Trackpoint > Trackpad
kepstin-laptop
exactly, that's why i'm replacing the trackpad.
the T440p did not come with trackpoint buttons, instead it used software buttons on the trackpad
the newer models add the physical buttons back
and it turns out the part can be swapped into the old laptops :)

Leo_Verto: trackpad on my x230 is in special tier of crap, so there's not much choice
