this week I'll probably setup a sandbox for him to push his WIP code to
      • CallerNo6 wishes he'd been following along
      • heh, well he doesn't seem to be awake when I am usuaully, so most of it was email :(
      • ruaok
        oy, that is rough.
      • bitmap
I can put some of the stuff I wrote on the wiki
      • anyways, later I investigate the source of some ISEs we've been getting that turned out to be lolo having old packages
      • not sure why yet, I still have to follow up on that
      • later I did some code review, worked on MBS-7987 so that series items get ordered by date, and did some more work on porting our menu code to react
      • mb-chat-logger
      • bitmap
aand I think that's about it, so fin!
      • ruaok
        thanks!
      • no reo. ianmcorvidae?
      • weeksio_
        I could go
      • ruaok
        go weeksio_
      • weeksio_
I think I've been making more progress lately after a slow start
      • losts of solr xml config stuff
      • lots^
      • dealing with java dependencies....yay maven
      • I'll be further configuring solr and hopeful to get a sandbox up soon
      • I guess that's it
      • ruaok
k, remember to ask question here when you get stuck.
      • reosarevok joined the channel
      • even though we don't have a lot of java knowledge, its enough. :)
      • reosarevok: good timing, you're next.
      • weeksio_
I do...folks on #solr have been helpful too
      • reosarevok
        haha
      • ruaok
        good, glad to hear it
      • reosarevok
Some more wikipedia link fixing in preparation for the wd change, mostly
      • That and answering emails was most of this week, I have been having dumb schedules so not super productive
      • Hopefully more next week, and the idea is also to take another look at style tickets and find a couple that need discussion and opening that discussion
      • Since there's nothing else going on at the moment it seems like a good time
      • But that's about it
      • ruaok
        k.
      • I've got a response from google about the freebase, knowledge graph stuff, but its not very helpful.
      • I'll forward later, reosarevok
      • reosarevok
        Ok :)
      • ruaok
I spent quite a bit of time last week working on clarifying how the dev team should be doing its work.
      • there is lots of confusion, so I started writing a series of posts that try and answer the questions I've been getting.
      • I'm hoping to contribute another one tomorrow.
      • though this week is dicey for me, since Barcelona Music Hack day activities start on wednesday.
      • many music tech folks will be in town, so I'll be offline/distracted for large chunks of the week.
      • I also spent some time looking after search servers.
      • I fixed one bug where some recording queries would timeout.
      • but that didn't fix it, so I had to clean out a pile of stuck procs from the front ends.
      • the process that ianmcorvidae outlined for me works pretty well, even if it is tedious.
      • there are new SSL packages available for our gateways, so I'm going to try and finish the config on the gateways tomorrow so fail-over works.
      • once that does, I can upgrade each of the gateways to install the ssl updated packages.
      • and, I also wanted to point out that I'm going on a much needed "vacation" to Nowhere (Euro burning man) from July 2 - July 14.
      • the days leading up to the second will also be more dicey, since prep for it always takes a huge amount of time. from july 2 - 14 I'll be fully AFK.
      • on the customer front, we reached agreements with 8tracks and BMAT here in Barcelona last week.
      • Still waiting on getting logos and other details form them. but that will amount to another $750/month.
      • lots more companies to pester, I'll keep working on that.
      • thats it for me.
      • Freso, Leo_Verto : anything from the BookBrainz front?
      • Gentlecat
I can type some stuff about my week too
      • ruaok
        please do, Gentlecat
      • Gentlecat
most of it was full of improvements for existing dataset features on AB
      • separated some json validation code to allow creating "empty" datasets
      • implemented a way to make private datasets
      • + some minor stuff like fancy new favicons
      • and code reviews/merging for CB
      • ruaok
        thank you for that! :)
      • Gentlecat goes back to writing his thesis
      • good luck. when are you done?
      • or supposed to be done?
      • Gentlecat
        july 1
      • ruaok
        anyone else for any updates?
      • Leo_Verto
we cancelled our meeting last Friday because no one had any energy
      • so yeah. nothing really happened
      • ruaok
        rough week?
      • Leo_Verto
yep, everyone has been pretty busy
      • ruaok
        I feel that. :(
      • anyways, last call for updates.
      • onward to topics.
      • first off might be moot without ianmcorvidae around.
      • I'm getting reports that our incoming mail sometimes bounces.
      • Not sure, but it might be connected to wiley ailing a bit.
      • that brings the question: if we can finally get rid of mailing lists, do we need an inbound email server?
      • most of our email gets directed to non-mb accounts (read: gmail).
      • we could move the domain to gandi, which allows a shit ton of mail redirects.
      • and if we do that, then we get rid of one more complicated thing to host.
      • let's leave that topic for next week.
      • next topic is also me.
      • brewster introduced me to the fellow behind classical-discography.org
      • has anyone ever encountered that before?
      • reosarevok?
      • CallerNo6 's ears prick up
      • reosarevok
        Nope
      • Checking now
      • Leo_Verto
        is that bootstrap?
      • reosarevok
        Hmm, looks interesting
      • ruaok
        Leo_Verto: yep.
      • anyways, the question/statement was: Let's collaborate!
      • but without any further comments/suggestions.
      • so, if anyone has any, please let me know. :)
      • right. anything else going on we should discuss?
      • ok, lets go enjoy the day then.
      • thanks everyone!
      • dufferzafar
ruaok: I actually need some help with setting up mbsandbox for CB
      • ruaok
that is ianmcorvidae's domain. ping him when he is awake
      • dufferzafar
        okay
      • Gentlecat
you probably can just reuse old one
      • I guess that still requires some reconfiguration
      • CallerNo6
bitmap, if you've written up any sort of guide to the mb server code, I'd be happy to wikifiy it.
      • ruaok
that might be the shortest route to getting going.
      • dufferzafar
Gentlecat: i already have an account (i can ssh into rika) and have setup the code/venv
      • Gentlecat
      • dufferzafar
i need db config too, and how should I use the fcgi file?
      • bitmap
CallerNo6: not really, just a rambly email to ruchiranga about some of our JavaScript tooling, but I can forward it to you
      • KRS-Cuan joined the channel
      • CallerNo6
        bitmap, received. thanks!
      • alastairp
luks: interesting, I wonder how much of it was actual resource usage
      • the claim for a well-tuned EP server is on the order of 50 queries per second
      • ruaok
        alastairp: how was that lecture.
      • ?
      • alastairp
        ruaok: a lecture by a composer ;)
      • ruaok
        a performance, then?
      • alastairp
really interesting in that regard - seeing all the technology/science that we’ve come to learn but through the eyes of “what music can I make with it"
      • nah, part history, part composition though process/explanation of his works
      • ruaok
        was good though?
      • alastairp
you didn’t miss out on a lot
      • ruaok
        :-/
      • alastairp
unless you’re into the boulez school of composition
      • ruaok
        the history might've been nice
      • alastairp
hearing it from the source was neat
      • but I think I had read about most if not all of it from other places
      • ruaok
I was wondering if that was going to be the case.
      • it was neat seeing this guy at SF music tech: http://www.tomoberheim.com/
      • alastairp
        analog come on… :)
      • ruaok
the thing that got me was that people said of his devices: "each one has its own soul"
      • and then he says "I've always used tantalum capacitors for my synths"
      • "only later did I find out that you shoulnd't do that"
      • I'm normally not an analog guy, but I have loads more respect for this dude.
      • his knoweldge and understanding of electronics is amazing

      • What happened ? Binary download links from http://picard.musicbrainz.org/downloads/ don't work atm
      • ianmcorvidae
it seems to have copied in a weird way
      • but I dunno why there's two pub/musicbrainz folders
      • perhaps ruaok or OSU/dotsrc changed something about the rsync task, that's where I'd start in investigating it
      • ruaok
OSUOSL is migrating their FTP server today and some things are not caught up/setup.
      • I would suggest using the dotsrc mirror for the next day or so.
      • ianmcorvidae
I guess dotsrc is copying from them? http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/MusicBrainz/pub/music... exists and is missing a bunch of stuff
      • ruaok
        damn.
      • data.musicbrainz.org which is the master source. but it is slow. :(
      • let me ping lance
