if <ruaok> "we keep going back and forth on that one." was an AC joke, then I groan in your general direction.

Freso: I wonder whether FFmpeg will merge into libav now...

I think that'd probably be the best (and most likely) result, since I can't see the libav guys going back to FFmpeg

didn't Debian recently go back to FFmpeg?

because they felt libav didn't respond to bug reports these days while the FFmpeg community did

I thought that libav was the more active of the two, with FFmpeg pretty much just picking up the development work of the libav team and merging it back into FFmpeg
used to be the case, but apparently it's different nowadays

I hope they can all put the project before personalities going forward.

LordSputnik: "Everyone" is using ffmpeg as their "libav" library, so libav is mostly a niche thing ATM. That could probably change if that's the way people want to merge things, but...

Freso: Ubuntu only provides libav by default in the apt repositories afaik, so Ubuntu users are most likely to be using libav

LordSputnik: But with Debian switching, Ubuntu seems to be the only distro still using libav, so they're probably going to switch too.

(Gentoo also switched to libav back-when, but has moved back to ffmpeg.)

Who knows? Hopefully it won't be a question for the OSes to decide if the developers get over personal grudges and do what's best

CallerNo6 is still working on an alternative to "community manager". MC Freso (minister of culture? musterer of community?)
