perfect: "Our vision is to proactively build ethical deliverables so that we may continue to seamlessly engineer high standards in information while maintaining the highest standards."
outsidecontext
i see, yes. i would probably switch this around, something like "while the data will sometimes be out-of-date we will be dedicated to update it"
alastairp
but it's not us
we're "at the whim" of the public who has access to the audio
ruaok
a middle ground between the two would be nice
outsidecontext
for my understanding: why will the data get out of date? because the exctractor code changes?
alastairp
yes
ruaok
yes.
alastairp
due to improvemtns
should we swing it that way - not that the data gets out of date, but newer data may be improved
ruaok
not speling improvmnts
alastairp
or does that not help
ruaok
its still outta date.
alastairp
yeah
ruaok
alastairp: I think you're trying too hard to be positive all around.
it is a positive trait to admit some weakness.
outsidecontext
or put it in a positive way: while AB and Essentia get improved, AB will keep older, out-dated data
ruaok
and it allows you to speak with a human voice and not corporate BS.
alastairp
yeah, right
alastairp maximises his ROI
if we're only discussing the wording of 1 sentence in the whole document maybe we should circulate it wider
to get more feedback
I mean to say, we agree on everything else now, right?
ruaok
for maximum bike-shedding effect.
I'm nearly happy with it.
I think we should work to nail down that one sentence and get on with life.
outsidecontext thinks 5.2 is quite solid
its short and simple.
I think 5.3 is technically more accurate, but 5.2 reads better.
either are acceptable to me.
alastairp
does 5.2 still read ok? if so, let's use it
ruaok
I think so.
alastairp
done
ruaok
I just incorporated it into #5
let me give it a final complete read
> Working in a vacuum will not improve this project.
ideally we could turn this around and make it a positive.
alastairp
yeah
everyone gains the most when they collaborate openly
ijabz
to me the 2nd half of line 2 reads rather negatively as if the project isn't really very good
heh, didnt see your comment ruaok when i wrote that
ruaok
ijabz: exactly.
alt 2.b, second half seem like I'm trying too hard
alt 2.b, try 2 works for me.
anyone?
ruaok accepts try 2
outsidecontext gives +1
ijabz
alt 2a & 2b do you need 'in an effort'
ruaok
not really, no.
struck.
ok, last call on feedback
next question, where should this go?
contribute section?
new top level?
alastairp
contribute doesn't sound right
faq?
I'd like to see "errata" too, but that's starting to be lots of menus
ruaok
nuke sample data from top and replace with goals
add sample data and goals to the home page
alastairp
link sample data from API
or merge into "Data"
with API on the main page, and link to sample data
ruaok is confused now
sorry
atod joined the channel
did you come up with something? do you want to talk about it?
ruaok
I think I know where you're going.
trying now.
alastairp
should clients and data be on download? should clients be on contribute? -- it makes more sense, but I think people will go to 'download' even to download clients
ruaok
how about adding links?
alastairp
between the pages? yeah
kepstin-laptop joined the channel
ruaok
there is a link to download on the contribute page.
is the fact that all of these are japanese releases a reflection of the fact that the rest of the world stopped using CDs years ago? :)
kepstin-laptop
hmm.
kepstin-laptop still has some new cds from other places, but not with the level of packaging seen in the japanese releases.
Freso
warp kepstin-laptop: Thanks!
kepstin-laptop notes that he doesn't have two copies of the album, he just combined the scans for both sides of the outer box into a single image.
nikki
we have more usa releases with multiple fronts than japanese ones
kepstin-laptop
I'd expect the most common "multiple fronts" case is when you have a scan of a cd booklet or digipak case opened up with the front and back visible, along with a cropped image of only the front
nikki
so I think really what you're seeing, warp, is this weird thing called music taste
if you listen to lots of japanese music, your examples are probably going to be japanese too :P
kepstin-laptop
I suspect freso brought it upon himself by asking "nikki or someone else" for examples ;)
alastairp
sigh. why is our lab connected to the 100mb switch in the comms room instead of the gig-e one?
nikki
and it doesn't help either that japan is one of the most well-represented countries
alastairp
how long has this been going on for
warp
nikki :)
kepstin-laptop
well represented by releases, but not particularly well by editors :/
nikki
yeah :/
I meant by data rather than editors though
Freso
kepstin-laptop: Brought what upon myself?
kepstin-laptop
Freso: getting japanese releases as your examples.
