the result is: 2 power stripes are melted, and I don't trust anything on that cable
luckily, as it's a modular power supply i just took the cable out and will bin that
CatCat: i sure feel like that!

i have a new 120gb ssd in, and that also caused a massive fucking amount of work. just plugging that in resulted in graphic card corruption, and eventually found out one sata port is dead
nikki agrees with CatCat
(so now 2/6 sata ports don't work - i accidently pulled one off when removing a cable years ago)

I purchased a new wireless keyboard to use with my laptop on tuesday
ocharles
so tempted to just buy a beefed up thinkpad
warp
only after I tried to set up the connection I realized that my laptop does not have bluetooth.
ocharles
haha
warp smart.
warp
(purchased one of those small bluetooth dongle thingies the next day, and it's working fine now)
Freso
ocharles: I've always had my RAM upgrades go smoothly. :|
ocharles
Freso: me too
i just have had really bad luck this week
Freso pats
one of those weeks
Freso
Yeah.
ocharles
i have to do all my 7digital work in a windows vm...
and right now, it's painfully slow
Freso
...
D:
Their demand?
Or just for now?
ocharles
well they are a C#/mostly windows shop
Freso
Ah.
:/
warp
ocharles: install windows 8!
(properly, not in a VM)
Freso
warp: ... It's 7digital, not 8digital.
:D
ocharles
warp: they use windows 7, but I think it might be much more productive if I do that
warp
ocharles: "that" being install windows outside a VM?
ocharles
ya
warp nods.
I now have 60GB ssd, and another 120GB ssd. I can put windows on the 60, and PostgreSQL + Linux on the 120
and everyone here laughs when I say I have 4gb ram, but I still think 4gb should be more than usable for a bit of dev work
maybe linux has made me too trusting of OSes
warp
ocharles: I have 3.3GB in use, so 4.7GB memory free. and that is with a nagios vm running.
ocharles
You work in windows now?
warp
no, this is in linux.
ocharles
right
warp
for normal work 4GB should be fine, more is nice if you play with virtual machines.
ocharles
yea
warp
base memory usage on windows is probably a lot higher compared to linux though.
ocharles
my motherboard only supports a max of 8gb
which is again why I'm wondering if it's really worth doing any upgrades other than drives here
warp
my windows 8 machine is currently using 1.7 GB. (EAC + ps2 emulator + VLC running).
ocharles: I didn't have any issues using visual studio on windows 8 on that laptop (4GB memory), though I obviously wasn't building anything big.(

ocharles: I think most of my used RAM (8GB in all) on my machine is taken up by caching a fair amount of my often used files in it.
(E.g., my Firefox profile, /srv/, etc.)
Most of that I probably wouldn't do if they were on an SSD. :)

But again, I'm also on Linux.
kepstin-work
my setup is crazy - desktop has os on an ssd, and /home nfs mounted off a raid setup
kepstin-work relies a lot on ram caching on the nfs for performance, but he's also symlinked certain things onto the ssd for speed
Freso would like an SSD - but also a NAS to move a lot of his not-so-much used stuff to, even his 2 1TB disks are almost full now. :|
luks
data hoarder :P
kepstin-work has 4 2tb discs in his NAS :)

guild wars 2 is making me want an ssd for my windows, tho; it's just on an old 500gb drive and game load times are horribly slow :)
I kinda like her. I think I'll stick close to her. :)
Freso
Yes.
ruaok: Aw.
Ben\Sput: Or a n'avi with orange hair.
Well, I guess they're more blue.
Hm.
Ben\Sput
Freso: a n'avi with orange hair would look so strange :P

Seriously though. He may be a loser, but wearing a hooded sweatshirt only shows a lack of respect if you interpret is as such. It's as much disrespect on their side to not allow him to wear whatever he wants. What he's wearing is not making him better or worse at making decisions about the business.
Anyway, I'll read this stuff and continue my studies. ruaok, poke me in #musicbottle if you want to discuss Bottle stuff. :)

ruaok: I've set up the nagios postgres lock check, insofar as I can. can you do a "git pull" on boojiboy when you have some time?
ruaok
warp: thanks. plz send me a quick email about that.
warp
ruaok: ok, will do.

I'm in the middle of contract signing stuff. (again)
