dear gods of the transclusion olymp, can one of you transclude a new version of http://beta.musicbrainz.org/doc/Development ? the only difference between the current and the wiki version are the link to RDF and the CAA api
kepstin-laptop notes that there's an "edit" link on http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Development :)

but I'm not sure where that should go, hmm.

... what do you mean? that 'RDF' link is working fine

that will be more than 85,000 replication packets.

how often the dumps ? twice a week ?
2014-02-14 04507, 2014

yeah.

jesus2099
i take the rsik to ask a stupid questoin… in those dumps, i see no table definition… how is it supposed to be imported in a DB ? there are some CREATE TABLE sql files somewhere ? i guess so… but haven’t seen them
2014-02-14 04539, 2014
kepstin-laptop
the dumps are not sql; they need to be imported with special scripts
2014-02-14 04500, 2014
kepstin-laptop
the scripts create the database using the standard musicbrainz server schema before importing
2014-02-14 04515, 2014
jesus2099
ah… those initDB.pl i saw somehwerE ?

i thought this was some postgresql command and wondered how to run that on my windows install… but now it makes more sense…

maybe those virtual machine downloads are what’s done for the kind of me
2014-02-14 04551, 2014

yeah, trying to do this on a windows machine would be pretty painful :)

a vm is a vm, whatever the PC, no ? … but hmm VM doesn’t seem to be what i want btw
2014-02-14 04507, 2014
kepstin-laptop
if what you want is a pre-setup environment with the database and script ready to import a dump, then the VM is what you want
2014-02-14 04543, 2014
jesus2099
i want to “see” the MB DB in that pgAdmin Ⅲ thing i just installed here… :)
2014-02-14 04551, 2014
jesus2099
and make some SQL requests
2014-02-14 04507, 2014
jesus2099
i thnik i have to look at the initDB.pl maybe……
2014-02-14 04521, 2014
kepstin-laptop
you could reconfigure the postgres server on the VM to allow external connections, then tell pgadmin to connect to it
2014-02-14 04524, 2014
jesus2099
… or was it initDB.py ? whatever…

If you just want to do the DB setup and import without dealing with perl and the musicbrainz server, you could try luks' "mbslave" stuff: https://bitbucket.org/lalinsky/mbslave

kepstin-laptop, jesus2099: the RDF link is an internal wiki link, isn't it? The wiki pages go 404 from time to time temporarily (thats a known bug/problem)
2014-02-14 04542, 2014
JonnyJD
something with a timeout
2014-02-14 04502, 2014
kepstin-laptop
ah, an issue with the transclusion?
2014-02-14 04508, 2014
jesus2099
ah ok :)
2014-02-14 04526, 2014

not sure if with the actual transclusion, but I have it quite often that I try to go to a /doc page and it gives me a 404 and it works when I try again

nikki: do you remember something like that or are even able to find the ticket?
2014-02-14 04526, 2014

I only find lots of closed "page not found" tickets, (closed since it is always a temporary issue)
thx nikki (don't remember when I had it last time, so I am not re-opening it now)

JonnyJD: while you’re here… you know i have at home a cool CD drive with which both isrcsubmit.exe and mediatools. and your isrcsubmit.py work but i had at work some serious isrcsubmit.exe slide down bugs… now at work i have a new PC and it’s the opposite… at least now i never have slide down bugs in isrcsubmit.exe but mediatools.exe is almost 98% always showing empty results — maybe because of acces rights i
2014-02-14 04553, 2014
JonnyJD
jesus2099: that is somewhat expected. I also have one drive where the slide down bug never occurs and one where certain release do have this effect
2014-02-14 04504, 2014
JonnyJD
so "some drivers are better than others"
2014-02-14 04526, 2014
jesus2099
yes that’s for sure… slim CD drives seem less precise for instance
2014-02-14 04532, 2014
jesus2099
seem crap i mean
2014-02-14 04549, 2014
JonnyJD
and yes, some drive/CD combination makes some of these "raw" tools fail. That is the reason I didn't release raw reading in libdiscid yet: there are some weird regressions with raw reading
2014-02-14 04555, 2014
jesus2099
or it’s more realted with NONAME stuff or seomthing :)
2014-02-14 04527, 2014
JonnyJD
well, cd writers seem to be better than non-writers. but that is only my personal experience based on like 4 drives
2014-02-14 04519, 2014
jesus2099
lite-on is cool, nec is cool. this is mine

the "optimal solution" would be to detect if a drive gives trash results with raw reading and use the normal method then
2014-02-14 04535, 2014
JonnyJD
however, I didn't find a way to reliably detect trash results yet. I didn't fall back to try and read the disc again with the other method when no ISRCs are found (since that would always be 2 reads if the disc doesn't have ISRCs).
2014-02-14 04552, 2014
JonnyJD
and empty ISRCs is not the only thing that can happen with raw reading
