if we remove disc IDs, but maintain a mapping of them to TOCs, what are we removing then?
      • nikki
all the hassle of maintaining medium-disc id mappings
      • JonnyJD
a TOC is attached to a release. A disc ID is only an identifier for the TOC
      • nikki
yes, and I'm saying we can break that connection and just have the table containing the tocs without it being linked to mediums
      • JonnyJD
so you would remove the TOC from the releases?
      • what purpose do the TOCs have then, when they are not attached to anything. How would you search for releases "by disc"?
      • nikki
if we were to replace lookup by disc id with lookup based on track times (which was one of the suggestions), then it breaks for anyone who looks up using only the disc id, since we don't have the toc to get the track times. if we have a list of discid/tocs, we can convert the disc id back to the toc without the program having to be changed
      • JonnyJD
nikki: lookup by track times = lookup by TOC
      • nikki
        no
      • a release can have track times and no toc
      • JonnyJD
Otherwise we would have to create a new release (with different track times) for every pressing
      • nikki
and that's not how the fuzzy lookup works
      • JonnyJD
yes, but the fuzzy lookup isn't really that good
      • what we would need to replace lookup by disc ID is a non-fuzzy lookup by TOC
      • with disc IDs we have multiple results. With fuzzy lookup we have even more.

ocharles: editing the values is an auto-edit, which it shouldn't be unless the user is an auto-editor
      • ocharles: removing stuff is also an auto-edit
      • djce joined the channel
      • ocharles: also have you added stats for it at all?
      • ocharles
        no, no stats
      • I feel that could also come later
      • nikki
it's harder to backfill stats though :/
      • ocharles
        it is
      • if you'd like stats with this, then I can do that
      • it just risks delaying this
      • i agree, it does seem worth delaying it for that though
      • nikki
it'd be nice to at least try and get it done
      • could also see what ian says when he reappears
      • afaik he's still in the air somewhere though
      • Mineo
ianmcorvidae, nikki: remember telling me that openstreetmap has more data for some parts of germany than the whole continent of africa? https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/... really makes me think there're some mad people responsible for that
      • nikki
        hehe
      • I like how well defined the coastlines are
      • (well, most of them)
      • Mineo
well, what's better than a romantic walk on a beach?
      • with a gps tracker.
      • nikki
        haha
      • I suppose that only works if both people are geeky enough or the gps tracker is a secret :P
      • easier to do these days I suppose, with phones having gps and stuff
      • Mineo
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/images/6/69/Wor... - "Germany contains as many points as Africa, both Americas, Australia and Asia combined" .... ooookay
      • nikki
"yes, someone travelled to antarctica" XD
      • JonnyJD
nikki: I checked the code an the fuzzy lookup of the FreeDB gateway does work without TOCs, but the "primary" track times. It does include completely unrelated releases in the results, though.
      • nikki
maybe I should make it worse and contribute my stash of tracks :P

ruaok: It isn't entirely safe, no, and the police are increasingly objecting to it. Which is, obviously, all the more reason to do it.
      • ruaok: But I only have "generic" police-in-combat-gear pictures, not of the ones escorting us.
      • (I figured that I should probably not do anything that might remotely be aggravating those ones...)
      • Freso still reading backlog
      • ruaok: Do you have enough police pictures, or should I put mine up as well?
      • ruaok
        moar!

      • I'm a huge Flickr-fan, but my first instinct told me to upload to imgur. It's just so easy.

      • ruaok
yeah. anders was brave enough to try it.
      • thats the best pic and it still doesn't tell the story.
      • Freso
        I really Anders actually.

      • I also really love how we can have several discussion tracks going at once at the summit; one IRL across the board, and another here on IRC. :p
      • ruaok
I just wish I could be part of the other discussion.
      • Freso
ruaok: You were there in spirit. :p
      • ruaok
I think you just called my spirit fat, but I'm not 100% sure.
      • reosarevok
        Or even several on IRC!
      • Freso
ruaok: I'm not either, really. Maybe?
      • ruaok pretends to be offended
      • Also, is it bad to have a fat spirit?
      • reosarevok
Freso: you're neither a spirit nor fat?
      • ruaok
fat buddha was a good guy, so who knows
      • Freso
        reosarevok: Exactly.
      • In hip hop, it's generally a good thing to be "fat" - as long as it's not referring to having too much adipose.
      • And since a spirit is immaterial it cannot have adipose tissue, and thus, a "fat spirit" would be a good thing.
      • kepstin-work
I thought that was "phat", not "fat"
      • Freso
Is my line of reasoning, anyway.
      • kepstin-work: "phat" can refer to excessive adipose tissue as well.
      • ruaok smiles

      • *6
      • Man. I can never get his # right. -.-
      • nikki
        caller?
      • ruaok pops some hippo shaving contexts off his stack
      • kepstin-work finds it amusing how he gets redirected to https://www.spotify.com/int/why-not-available/ on Spotify, which has the title "Why is Spotify not available in my country?", but then doesn't bother to answer that question.
      • ruaok
warp: so those receipts are already paid and just for my record, right?
      • warp
        ruaok: correct.

      • CallerNo6
        picky, picky
