so, what's new?

earlier today I spoke with a lawyer about getting a german non-profit off the ground.

and I hit a pretty serious snag.

whenever any european company pays anyone, they fork over 19% in taxes.

which, metabrainz in the US doesn't do.

so, moving to the EU has a 19% tax right out of the gate.

is that separate from the problem you spoke about before?

worst that I saw on that front is that our paid ws would be taxed. no that big a deal.

besides pay, we have hosting costs.

and hosting costs are about half of one employee's cost. (at least right now)

e.g. someone pays you EUR 1190, you have to pay EUR 190 in tax; but then you buy hardware for EUR 1190 and can deduct the EUR 190 tax.

I think the main issue is just "are we okay with adding a checkbox to set the front(iest) release" + "does the index.json format sufficiently support that possibility"
