they are properly crediting us, but I think there ought to be some support

interesting.
presumably they're just using the CC0 data dumps
ruaok guesses so
they also don't have *all* of the data included
ruaok
that doesn't change the fact that they ought to open their wallets and support us.
kepstin-work
very limited coverage, in fact. It's almost as if they're manually importing data by having people read the musicbrainz site...
kepstin-work would hope that's not the case :)
ruaok
no.
there is a fellow from wolfram who was asking about your upcoming schema change
kepstin-work
http://products.wolframalpha.com/partnerships/ seems to be the place to start if you want to get your data into musicbrainz, but no idea where you'd go if your data is already there :)
into wolfram*
ruaok
well, I have the email address of one of their people. I'll start there.
man svn seems so strange and foreign to me now
nikki_
when are we going to move the rest of our svn stuff? :P
ruaok
I'm ready for that to happen.
but its kinda up to the people who do the maintaining of that cod
reosarevok
So, nobody, in most cases :p
kepstin-work
looks like wolfram is getting album art from wikipedia, we should try to interest them in using the cover art archive ;)
reosarevok

hi ijabz!
I'm trying to compile the new search stuff, but its failing on tests.
I updated mmd-schema and did mvn clean ; mvn package ; mvn install
ijabz
hangon
ruaok
then in search server I did the same and the tests are failing.
ruaok hangs
ijabz
did you do mvm install on mmd-schema ?
ruaok
yes
I'll do it again, just in case.
ijabz
did you do mvm clean on search-server before mvn package ?
ruaok
wait, operator error. one sec.
installed.
now doing clean ; package on the search server.
also, I just got done installing a tiny 5 port gig switch.
and its only for search index traffic.
so, we should be able to push search indexes much faster now.
ijabz
great
nikki_ wonders when someone is going to fix beta's search :/
ruaok
is warp of ijabz responsible for that?
ijabz
nikki, its kind of entered a black hole
murdos has written the updater code, warp deals with deploying it
I don't actuyally know anything about the updater
but I ma going to try and set it up on my home server now that I have one
ruaok
warp: prod
build successful. :)

ruaok: did you get my email re: the music biz conference thing?
ruaok
I did.
do you need an immediate answer?
ianmcorvidae
well, they pestered me again about it, but other than that I don't think it matters
(it just means the info goes up later)
ijabz
ruaok: so nothing for me to respond to for an hour or so I guess whilst the indexes build ?
ruaok
ok, I can answer in a few.
ijabz: appears so, yes.
reosarevok
well, unless you want to talk about moving out of svn :p
ijabz
reosarevok: sure we can talk, why has that just come up ?
reosarevok
Well, they were talking about moving the rest of svn
(they being nikki_ and ruaok)
ruaok didn't mean to start anything
ijabz
Actually I would like mmd-schema to be moved to git, I asked ocharles about this some time ago
Thats the only part of search that coredevs contribute to would allow me to see how git/bitbucket works with my workflow
Then the inevitable move for search-server would be simpler, how thats sound ?
ruaok
sounds like a great first step.
ruaok starts make on cartman
ijabz
perhaps you could prod someone to do it
ruaok
I want to do that, but everyone has heaps of stuff to do with the schema change
reosarevok
Who was it who did the last svn-to-git thing?
IIRC it wasn't a core dev
Unless it was luks maybe?
ruaok
leftmost might be interested in doing that.
reosarevok
Yeah, although he does have a ticket
ijabz
no massive rush, just pencil it in for after schema chnages
might be safer to do it that way actually, as schema changes will rehires changes to mmd-schema
just to really drive home the hippie part of "metadata hippie" I guess
ruaok
lol
ianmcorvidae
BA in something approximating CS because hampshire doesn't have majors
ruaok
k
In his formative hippie years Ian McEwen attended Hampshire College?. after graduation he doubled down on his committment to being a hippie and dedicated himself to the mission of improving music metadata via metadata hippie incantations.
feh. where did that ? come from?
ruaok can't spell massachusets worth a shit

yay, already a response from wolfram. they want to feed data back to us. :-D
ianmcorvidae: my attempt at a bio sent. I may have not actually used the term hippie.
HSOWA wouldn't mind the term hippie used in a bio about himself :D
Leftmost joined the channel
I'm still surprised how much people like the term "metadata hippie"
HSOWA has no idea what that means :D
reosarevok
I don't like it because I want to think we won't get boring and watered down after a decade or so :p
HSOWA
silly reosarevok, ekte hippier dør ikke
de bare tar en trip
ruaok
HSOWA: at a couple of conferences I called us metadata hippies. musicbrainz in general.
HSOWA
hmm. probably that doesn't work as good in english
S1RC
Anyone able to answer a question for me?
ruaok
like hippies our ideals are somewhat unclear to the mainstream
kepstin-work
HSOWA: I think it means people who tend to have long or unusual hair, dress funny, and have an interest in sharing music metadata freely with others/
HSOWA
ruaok: sounds awesome to me :D
ruaok
S1RC: only if you ask the question!
HSOWA
my mother was a genuine hippie so yea
ruaok
HSOWA: :)
ruaok has been to the rainbow gatherings in the forests in the US
HSOWA
kepstin-work: :D
HSOWA ca nvote for the "dress unusally" part atleast
maybe i can get weird hair soon
S1RC
I set up a mirror server for my Headphones to check, but it still gives me a blacklisted error on api requests. Can I fix that in the server somewhere?
kepstin-work
S1RC: that probably just means that you haven't reconfigured your headphones to point at the mirror server; it's still trying to access our main server.
kepstin-work doesn't know any headphones configuration.
ruaok
S1RC: or that you haven't installed the search server locally.
if you haven't searches are still being carried out by our servers, which are rate limited.
S1RC
It's definitely on custom, pointed at the ip:port of the VM.
