        that's all I know
      • reosarevok
But did he get to implement releases etc?
      • nikki
        try it?
      • reosarevok
        Ok
      • ocharles
hmmm, i was going to suggest ruaok use pgq rather than timestamps for this, and then maybe mirror that into a table/log file
      • then you get deletes too
      • warp
        goodmorning mr. charles!

getting the same error as http://lists.musicbrainz.org/pipermail/musicbra... when installing on debian, any hints or any info ya's need to help me out here?
      • warp
thereisnospoon: it cannot find Catalyst, presumably something went wrong when installing the depedancies
      • thereisnospoon: run "carton install" again in the musicbrainz-server directory, see if that fixes it.
      • thereisnospoon
ok, runnin again now, just carton install, not with --deployment?
      • warp
if it doesn't, check if you see any error messages when running "carton install" which is causing some modules to not get installed properly.
      • thereisnospoon: I usually just run "carton install" without --deployment, but either should work. it's still not clear to me how --deployment differs :)
      • thereisnospoon
kk, waiting for it to do its thing now
      • ok that did the trick it appears, its loading now, now any hints on how to change the port?
      • nvm, found it, thanks for that
      • ocharles sets up in his camping chair on the balcony
      • reosarevok
        lol
      • Do you have one of those mythical non-cloudy days?
      • ocharles
        it's gorgeous here today
      • reosarevok
So, what are you hacking on? :)
      • ocharles
improving the front page to show off the latest releases that have front cover art
      • reosarevok
        Sweet :)
      • nikki
I like how we're doing that before we even show the latest releases at all :P
      • reosarevok
nikki: I assumed it'd be because the new releases are more likely to change quite fast than the releases with new fronts are
      • ocharles: dunno if you read it - we were talking yesterday of some "look at all that editing" twitter account
      • ocharles
is that a bit like my real time events stuff?
      • reosarevok
        Probably
      • I think they wanted mostly to show off, like "look, changes all the time! so many!" :p
      • ocharles
yep, that's sort of what this is about
      • this will say 'added x minutes ago'
      • nikki
won't people confuse that with the date the release was added?
      • ocharles
you mean the date the release was release?
      • released*
      • nikki
        no
      • ocharles
it shows the date the release was added
      • nikki
        oh
      • I thought it was supposed to be when the cover was added
      • ocharles
        ah, no
      • reosarevok
        Hmm, that sounds strange
      • So you show them once they get cover art, but you order them by how long ago they were added in general?
      • ocharles
yes, the cover art is just because it will be too plain to show things without cover art
      • reosarevok
So, let me get this straight
      • Are you checking the latest releases added, and showing the ones that have cover art?
      • Or are you checking the latest releases cover art was added to and showing them?
      • (also, CAA or also Amazon?)
      • ocharles
        just CAA
      • the latest releases added that have front cover art is what i'm showing
      • ordered by date added
      • nikki
we know the cover art url though, so there's no reason we'd need to exclude amazon ones
      • ocharles
this is about showing our own data off for now
      • it's just a prototype, let me prototype :)
      • nikki
no! you should do everything my way! :P
      • I'm hungry but it's too hot to feel like eating anything :(
      • reosarevok
        Cold potato salad!
      • nikki
        ew
      • ocharles
        noms
      • warp
Hm. I think I'm done with all the code changes required.
      • now I just need to write a single static json file
      • reosarevok
warp: what was your project? :)
      • warp
        reosarevok: json-ld support
      • reosarevok
Explained for idiots, what does that allow? :)
      • nikki
can we make caa info replicated with the next schema change?
      • warp
it makes a few tweaks to the json output so it can be read/parsed as RDF. which is useful for anyone working with RDF or other linked data.
      • nikki is getting ahead of herself, given that it's not even being dumped yet, but... :P
      • ocharles
nikki: I'd be in favour of that
      • dumps should come out on monday
      • or whenever the next dump after monday is
      • nikki
        rob gave me one today
      • but I already want to update it :P
      • ocharles
stupid edit table, why are you so big
      • reosarevok
ocharles: hmm, seems we only get an average of 10 new releases per hour
      • So if we don't show also the ones with Amazon art, it might feel a bit too... static :(
      • (either that or the last 24 hours have been slow)

        ocharles, editor's ?
      • Really? :D
      • (but, nice!)
      • (I like that quite a lot :) )
      • ocharles
        oops
      • what do you think about crediting the editor? shall I do that too?
      • "added by reosarevok"
      • etc
      • reosarevok
        Unsure
      • Both work I guess
      • I kinda like it now, though
      • Looks more like "the community did that" than "some specific guy did that"
      • ocharles
        true
      • reosarevok
(which makes sense since someone can have added it + someone else fixed it + someone else added art)
      • Of course that's just my opinion and other people might disagree
      • Not my fault they're wrong :D
      • I meeaaan, and they might be right :)
      • ocharles
what other data can we show off on the homepage?
      • reosarevok
        Can? Lots. Should? not sure
      • I think this is enough for the homepage
      • (and any other data-feed-thingies should be in a dashboard or something)
      • ocharles
cool, then my hack is done and I can go and drink beer? :)
      • reosarevok
While you think about the second hack? Sure :p
      • Is there a limit to it? As in, will it always show the last 4, or does it change depending on how many recent releases with art are there?
      • ocharles
        it will only show 4
      • reosarevok
        Ok
      • reosarevok updates the page
      • ocharles
        which page?
      • reosarevok
      • ocharles
        ah, thanks!
      • reosarevok
        :)
      • ocharles
i might work on the event feed later
      • ocharles nods
      • i'll let you finish editing
      • reosarevok
Yeah, I just moved it up
      • To "in progress"
      • You do the rest
      • nikki
the cover is rather large next to the text imo (or vice versa, it just seems out of balance)
      • reosarevok goes fix more classical...
      • ocharles
        ianad
      • nikki
and something like that totally looks like it should have a way of scrolling left/right to show more :P
      • reosarevok
I thought that was kind of intentional, to show off the cover over the rest - but a couple more sizes couldn't hurt I guess
      • (I guess clicking the cover takes you to the release page - or does it open the lightbox?)
      • (if the latter, it should probably be the former :) )
      • ocharles
        it opens the lightbox
      • reosarevok
Oh, also, a small thing, ocharles: does it make sure they're thumbnailed?
      • ocharles
because that's consistent with what cover art does atm
      • reosarevok
(we don't want people loading 4x10mb when loading the main site)
      • ocharles
i don't know what you mean, it uses the thumbnail where it can, yes
      • reosarevok
I mean that it would make sense to avoid any that have no thumbnails
      • Dunno if that's simple though
      • ocharles
        can't do that
      • all i can do is be optimistic that the thumbnailer is doing its job
      • reosarevok
heh. Well, if it's fast enough, it's unlikely for more than one of the four to be a full image I guess
      • About the lightbox - yeah, but that happens when you're in a release page, and you click on a cover
      • You obviously don't want to go to the release, because, well, you are there :) )
      • In this case I'd expect people to want to go to the release if they click them
      • But let's get more opinions!
      • People, opinions please! :)
      • nikki
maniadb shows a lightbox if you click on a cover and I keep clicking it trying to go to the release page and it's really annoying
      • especially since their lightbox covers the link to the page, so you have to close it before you can click on the right thing >(
      • so basically I agree with reosarevok :P
