Hey, I'm trying to get my Musicbrainz VM up and running. I'm using Ubuntu Server 12.04 with VirtualBox. It's up and running, and I've built search indices, but searches fail with various errors every time I try to search.

This particular time, it's: read timeout at /usr/share/perl5/LWP/Protocol/http.pm line 452, line 2.

it would be great to have a tracklist similarity indicator for releases, to detect very similar releases in various release groups (ie. 13 tracks vs 14 tracks, or 12 tracks vs 12 tracks with few spelling errors...), just a thought

hello everybody, I would like to use cover arts from musicbrainz in my webradio player. I receive strings like "Nirvana - Polly". What is the most direct way to get some imagery for that string from your API?
      • 2014-01-07 00746, 2014

      • sscarduzio
i understood I have to know the "release" before querying the cover arts archive
      • 2014-01-07 00708, 2014

      • sscarduzio
Therefore, I need at least 2 API calls..

      • 2014-01-07 00701, 2014

      • kuno
that answer assumes you have a track name, if you have the album name you will have to adjust the queries a bit. (but it should give you better results, because there are way more songs with the same name than albums :)

I have artist and song name, I do want to make sure I'm looking for a recording such that artist name matches "nirvana" and song name matches "Polly" at the same time

sscarduzio: the software that runs on coverartarchive.org is a small python server, which you can run yourself if you want. it needs access to a musicbrainz database. but it would not have any of the actual cover art, because that is all hosted by archive.org.
