        In theory, they do
      • (since Spanish is prescriptivist, remember? ;) )
      • ianmcorvidae
luks: well, I mean the countries domain on transifex, which is sourced from the server -- versus the list of countries that's in the picard domain (unless you've moved/changed it)
      • luks
        oh
      • ianmcorvidae
not that the countries themselves will be different, but unless you've made code changes (or are generating a merged message catalog) presumably picard's still using just stuff within the picard resource
      • reosarevok
It'd be a good idea to join the lists
      • luks
things get confusing when you start talking about translating languages and countries into languages from specific countries :)
      • ianmcorvidae
        haha
      • but yeah, we should unify the lists, ultimately
      • hm, cldr doesn't evidently have po files
      • luks
hm, I don't even know how to translate "artist" into slovak
      • reosarevok
        heh
      • luks
I'd really like to know if using these generic words for something specific doesn't feel weird for native English speakers
      • reosarevok
luks: it's much worse for me the other way around
      • luks
it doesn't feel right to me to use the direct translation, even though it technically really means the same
      • reosarevok
(using the equivalent of "release" feels much more restricted)
      • luks
I'd like to say "musical artist"
      • reosarevok
        luks: but that's not true
      • We have lyricists, photographers...
      • luks
        hm
      • reosarevok
Admittedly most *are* musical artists, but I find "artist" nice enough
      • (and in Spanish too)
      • ianmcorvidae
I feel like given this is on MusicBrainz you get the contextual information that this is music-related
      • which is why it isn't weird to me
      • I'm not going to be like "oh, Bono, isn't he a famous renaissance painter?"
      • reosarevok
        heh
      • reosarevok is reminded of the people who were like "oh, that sculptor is called Michaelangelo? Like the ninja turtle?"
      • ianmcorvidae
        lol
      • luks
        :)
      • I really have to download some music players with slovak translations
      • things like "album artist" are totally untranslatable for me
      • reosarevok
Can't you just use "album-genitive artist" and be done with it?
      • luks
well, picard currently translates it as "artist's album" :)
      • ianmcorvidae
that seems like the opposite of correct
      • "album's artist" is how I read that
      • luks
        yep
      • reosarevok
        heh, the opposite of correct
      • Is that anti-correct?
      • ianmcorvidae
nah, I feel like 'anti-correct' would be actively working *against* correctness
      • this is just passively wrong :P
      • luks
the problem is that we don't generally have genitive forms of neuter gender nouns
      • kepstin-work
        solution: make up new words!
      • reosarevok
Or take one and give it a barely related meaning1
      • *!
      • Like "release" :p
      • ianmcorvidae
        kepstin-work: you english-speaker you ;)
      • however, yes
      • that's the only reason English has words for this shit :P
      • reosarevok
        "Digital Media"
      • I mean, how the hell do you translate that
      • Just "Digital" is not too good, though
      • kepstin-work loves the english word 'they' which is commonly used as a gender-neutral 3rd person pronoun.
      • "Digital files"?
      • ianmcorvidae
I mean, how do you translate "medium"?
      • reosarevok
        Probably as disc :p
      • ianmcorvidae
        heh
      • ruaok
        <BANG>
      • meeting time!
      • ianmcorvidae
it's funny that between English and Spanish, English is the one that has the derived-from-latin word
      • whoo meeting
      • kepstin-work
'media' is... the stuff that something is in/made of
      • ruaok
so, ocharles is on vacation, right?
      • and so is nikki.
      • I suspect this will be a short meeting. :)
      • warp, you around?
      • reosarevok
Any idea when nikki is back btw?
      • ruaok
out for 2 weeks, starting May 16th.
      • later this week then.
      • reosarevok
        Ok
      • ruaok
        I'll go then?.
      • reosarevok
        sure
      • ruaok
I spent a bunch of time working to get forums working again.
      • and before I left I had the machine working.
      • but dave wanted a more isolated network configuration and when he tried to put it into place, the machine's network config got hosed.
      • so I need to go rescue it now.
      • and then I ran off to a music festival for a much needed break.
      • who else for review?
      • reosarevok likes that ruaok's breaks involve more activity yet than the work
      • ianmcorvidae
        I can go, briefly
      • ruaok
        go
      • ianmcorvidae
domains for i18n are mostly split, but I haven't yet migrated translations from the existing ones, so while they're up on transifex they're mostly sitting at 0% done
      • if people have opinions on i18n, I'd encourage them to go look and see if the splits seem weird to them -- but they're probably about set
      • picard moved to transifex today, so things are consolidating too -- which is good
      • ruaok
        nice
      • ianmcorvidae
I'm still waiting on my main computer to get to AZ (scheduled for friday), but I'll hopefully get translations migrated before then
      • and then start working on the server knowing how to use them :)
      • (and that's all for me)
      • reosarevok
Splits look good to me FWIW
      • ruaok
going strong in the first week. nicely done. :)
      • plaintext, bitmap, alastairp? any updates from you?
      • ianmcorvidae
reosarevok has already been translating some spanish, he migrated those for himself :P
      • plaintext
I had to study a lot this week, so I didn't have much time for gsoc :(
      • After tomorrow I will have much much more time
      • ruaok
plaintext: ok, no problem. lets touch base on wednesday?
      • er, thursday?
      • bitmap
my week was split between picard and gsoc. I've made good progress with gsoc though :)
      • plaintext
ruaok, wednesday is ok too, I have my exam tomorrow
      • ruaok
        plaintext: ok
      • reosarevok
bitmap: oooh, can we see? ;)
      • ruaok
I'll put up the gsoc blogs onto our blog later today.
      • can each of you make at least one post a week?
      • bitmap
my first task is due june 10 (relate multiple recordings on a release to works) and I really only need to have it submit the edits, so I might finish early
      • ruaok
i would like to see those posts on monday morning, so we can review them before our meeting.
      • plaintext
        sure
      • bitmap
ocharles isn't here though, and I wanted to ask if I should take over the relationship-edtitor branch so that I have somewhere to push
      • reosarevok
bitmap: clone it for now maybe?
      • ruaok
bitmap: might be best to start a new branch off that one.
      • bitmap
        okay, that works
      • reosarevok
ruaok: when you say "onto our blog" you mean to make them autopost to it? Or just to post the links?
      • ruaok
        the latter.
      • reosarevok wouldn't mind having them post in the actual blog...
      • in the sidebar.
      • reosarevok: interesting idea. maybe next year, since I already chased everyone to make a blog. :)
      • ok, lets call review done.
      • reosarevok
        Tsk-tsk
      • I wanted to go :p
      • It's quick
      • ruaok
        oh, sorry. go!
      • reosarevok
Basically: a) I've finally gotten my sandbox running, with a lot of help from ianmcorvidae
      • b) that means I've been submitting small patches, again with a lot of help from ianmcorvidae in some (most? :) ) cases
      • ianmcorvidae
        eh, I helped with two
      • you've submitted what, 8? 10?
      • reosarevok
No, you basically did 2, and helped with half the rest :p
      • Anyway
      • And c) we now allow linking to multiple new DBs, including OCRemix and Theatricalia (who had asked us about it)
      • ruaok
        awesome
      • reosarevok
Autoselect + sidebar stuff for all that goes out on the next release
      • And I think that's all for now - style has been going along pretty fine as far as style can do
      • ruaok
        looking good!
      • thanks for the update.
      • onward then.
      • CAA is on the blink again, IA is investigating as we speak.
      • reosarevok
        Yeah
      • ruaok
anything else wrt to CAA right now?
      • reosarevok
It's the second or third time this weekend
      • So they really should check what happens
      • If they need servers, please give them a server shower
      • And if they need code, it's becoming annoying enough that it might make sense to offer a bit of help from our devs if needed
      • ruaok
I tried to give them servers, they never got back to me.
      • I think this is mostly a hosting issue.
      • kepstin-work joined the channel
      • and they've not had partners who are pushing new stuff to them every single hour of the day.
      • so, its somewhat growing pains for them.
      • reosarevok
        :)
      • alastairp
        ruaok: sorry. was at physio
      • ruaok
ianmcorvidae: thanks for adding the timeline CAA stuff. :)
      • reosarevok
I'm quite happy we didn't announce it too loud for now :)
      • ruaok
alastairp: np. got anything accomplished last week?
      • alastairp
I can jump in now, or later?
