how did the savages in the south treat you?

I’ve come to this weird realisation that I understand catalan better than andalusian spanish

I think I am the other way around. Odd.

But I haven't been down there recently, so I can't say that about my spanish knowledge today.

I’m thinking more about artist string->many ids in messybrainz, and how we could do it

currently for recordings we have a concept of a cluster (many messybrainz submissions), and each cluster can be assigned 1 recording mbid

wtf is messybrainz?

it would be easy to extend this to allow many ids to be assigned to an artist cluster, though we may loose ordering (do we need a sequence?)

darwin: it’s a supporting component of listenbrainz - basically a string -> id mapper, which can then be mapped to real mbids

since people may not have mbid tags in files (or services may not support it - spotify, etc)

I'll go first with alastairp's report.

he's been slacking.

alastairp and I have been working on messybrainz and listenbrainz, trying to get it working and reasonable stable for some sort of launch on thursday.

alastairp and I are giving the closing session presentation, talking about listenbrainz and a wee bit about messybrainz.

I've conscripted Gentlecat a little this week to help on the listenbrainz front as well, but he can tell you about that.

between listenbrainz work, some sysadmin stuff, I've been doing a lot trying to whip ourselves into shape.

I met up with Freso at Christianaia for an afternoon last week.

that was fun -- good to catch up in a great environment.

Freso made me realize that I need more help and that I have too many tasks on my plate.

I really miss the weather from that day. It's only been going down hill every single day since.

and that I need to stop what I am doing and focus on getting help both on the sysadmin front and on the biz dev front.

and on his prodding I realized that some things had recently changed that allowed some new doors to open.

but, the most immediate exciting thing at hand is that zas is looking for a part time sysadmin position.

and I've asked around what people think of him who have worked with him and the feedback was good.

we've basically settled the rough details on how we wish to proceed and I now need to get board approval to hire him.

next, a friend of mine here in barcelona... some of you have met this person might become available soon.

Sysadmin? Yay!

this person would make a really great addition to the team to help me deal with new customers and bringing more money into the organization.

dealing with customers off the new metabrainz site is considerably more work than I have time for, so getting help on this front is really needed.

this is again something I need board approval for, so right now I am tracking down all the financial details of the past year and expected expenses for the next year.

to build a case that the board can swallow and that will not get us into trouble.

hopefully I will have more to report on all that next week.

ruaok: I would say invite them to lunch, but knowing where you like to eat nowadays, I don't think that'd leave the MeB finances in a position to hire more people :D

my week involved a lot of travel planning, so it was less productive than I would've liked

that sucks soo much time!

but, I'm glad to have everything finally settled for the mb/gsoc summits

I did a server release on tuesday, a day late 'cause I wanted to investigate caa uploading issues people were having

only ~25% of uploads were going through, or something, and it wasn't a problem on the IA's side

it seems that the upgrade to perl 5.18 affected the signature calculation, since hash keys are returned in a random order

and we had code that expected them not to be, for some reason :)

so that took all day to debug, but got fixed

I'd really like to move that to the top of the priority list.

yeah, that got pushed back for the last couple weeks, but I've started on it again yesterday

I'm now planning on earmarking that contract money to hire this other person, so we really need to get it finished.

So, some weirdo came to Copenhagen and I met up with them at Freetown Christiania and talked about stuff. This was good and I felt it was rather productive, and I think that they did too.

Other than that, last week was mostly community service stuff + finishing off a Cousera music theory course as well as some outstanding things I needed to get done for my dance classes, both of which I've been slacking on the previous weeks.
