Yes I looked at sold and it didn't seem to offer much control over efficient indexing, and then the most of it is a way of using lucene without having to understand it , but to have any control you need to start writing lucene coe anyway
ruaok
I didn't sleep well the last two nights in london.
so I was a walking zombie on the way to LHR.
ocharles
ah
hate that
sounds like me on monday
ruaok
so I decided to get sleep on the flight.
very much so like you monday.
and then i was wide awake and happy./
then I got to customers.
cutoms
feh.
you'd think they have issues with my gig switch in my luggage.
no. they took issue with my pret sandwich.
took 5 minutes to scan my bags and confiscate my sandwich.
no word about the switch.
then I missed catching an earlier flight by FIVE minutes.
at that point I was pissed.
so i turned heelp, got on bart and went to the mission.
several beers and mission burrito later things were well.
then I passed out on the last flight. never even caught take-off. just the landing. WIN!
ocharles
murdos: sweet :)
ruaok
murdos: good.
I think that deal will happen.
the partnership between last and mb is going swimmingly atm.
I'm very happy about that.
ocharles: do you know stephan's email? first name at last.fm ?
ocharles
stefans@ i would think
let me check
ruaok
k
ocharles
murdos: I agree, I can see why it scares people, but it's actually pretty sane
ruaok: yea, what I said above is right
ruaok
ocharles: thanks.
ocharles
also, you missed out on last.fm stickers, which I got today
ruaok
I have some.
ocharles
ah :)
i love the tag stickers
ruaok
but stefan said they were old.
OH! I need more of those.
I liked indie ass on the loo door. :)
ocharles
haha
you can make "uber hardcore canadian"
we have some of them
ruaok
last.fm has fun loos anyway.
ocharles
yes :)
ruaok
and the sysadmin laid is fun too.
I walked in and saw the nagios screen.
RAID failure for 49 days?
that got a nice conversation about RAID cards started. :)
*lair
ocharles
i was right about the half a terrabyte of ram btw
512gb :)
32 cups
cpus*
not sure if it's 32 cpus or cores, but it's stupid fast
ruaok
damn.
wow.
ianmcorvidae
man, what even supports that much RAM?
ruaok
something *big*. :)
ocharles
they also have more database servers running the musicbrainz database, than musicbrainz itself :P
(2)
ruaok
LOL
ianmcorvidae
:P
unless rika counts ;)
ruaok
and given what happened yesterday, we need to deploy a hot spare soon.
ianmcorvidae
(which it shouldn't, of course, I just had to make the joke :P)
reosarevok
ruaok, yes please
ocharles
what happened yesterday?
reosarevok
Do we have rack space for it still?
ocharles, Totoro had to be restarted IIRC
ocharles
poof
reosarevok
No apparent reason for the problems, unless djce discovered something
ruaok
and it took 2 hours or so for us to get to that.
ocharles
oh, is this why I got an email saying cron was terminated?
ruaok
I need to double check to see that warp is on the acl for dwni
ocharles: yes.
not a good thing to find out when you arrive on the ground.
another good argument for having wifi in the sky
ocharles
yea
ruaok
we have space for 2 machines.
3
and we can probably pull stimpy and dexter and replace them with better machines.
we have a lot of work to do at DWNI.
but we have one 8-core 32gb box that can serve as a hot failover
our poor power bill. :(
it already went up by $75 deploying rika and lolo. :(
but stimpy and dexter have dual power supplies.
we may use less power by replacing them.
nikki
is ddex the stuff I saw?
ruaok
nikki: no.
that was UMG proprietary.
ianmcorvidae
that's $75/month, I assume?
ruaok
ianmcorvidae: yes.
nikki
aw damn
ianmcorvidae has been meaning to send some of my christmas gift money to metabrainz, I should hunt down an envelope and stamp to make that happen
nikki wants to see that too
ruaok
at least our power bill doesn't track our bandwidth consumption.
nikki: the code or data?
ianmcorvidae
(not that I have much money to give, but hey)
nikki
data
ruaok
we dont have any data yet.
nikki
oh
reosarevok
awwwww
kepstin-laptop
it kind of does track bandwidth... it only at a delay and indirectly
ruaok
I need to follow up with EMI about data.
reosarevok
ruaok, never tell nikki and us "no data"!
Those two words together... they hurt! :p
us? meant me. It hurt so much, I'm delusional, apparently
ruaok
I know you want data.
I'm working on it.
ocharles
you've got a million releases in mb and you want MORE?
ruaok
I spent a lot of energy last week getting data.
gotta give it some time.
ocharles
such a picky community
reosarevok
Well, right now I'm feeding on the Estonian library system
nikki
ocharles: YES!
reosarevok
That has enough for a while
nikki
dataaaazzzz
ruaok
lol
nikki walks around like a zombie or something
hey the music manager indie label data should be fun.
ocharles: did adrian sign off on the query?
reosarevok
ocharles, 1 million is half discogs!
That's not good enough :p
ruaok
I saw you spent quite some time reviewing.
ocharles
ruaok: he did, but... pm
ruaok
k
andreypopp joined the channel
andreypopp: hi!
too bad you're not coming to SF. :(
andreypopp
ruaok: hi! have no time to get a visa :-(
ruaok
bummer. :(
andreypopp: do you guys have any DDEX parsing stuff yet?
andreypopp
ruaok: yeah, we have
ruaok
cool.
andreypopp
ruaok: what's on your side about that?
ruaok
well, we're interesting in working on that.
we're working on getting label data feeds now.
so, once we get them we need tools to parse them.
andreypopp
ruaok: that sounds cool
ruaok
yeah. the labels have been receptive to giving us data.
which is really nice
andreypopp
well, I think we also can open source parser for ddex, but I need more time to get it in the corresponding state — world doesn't need another piece of crapy code
