all my portable players support opus, so I've started using that to save space :)
      • Freso
kepstin-work: I convert to lossy (Vorbis) for my music player. It doesn't have infinite space though, so I only convert what I figure I'll want to listen to on the go. :)
      • kepstin-work
        $ du -sh Music/
      • 807GMusic/
      • :/
      • Leftmost
Wow. That's a good deal more than I have sorted.
      • kepstin-work
I think my ipod still has about 30-40gb free
      • Leftmost: keep in mind that that includes two copies of everything in both flac and some lossy format.
      • 478GMusic/Flac ...
      • Freso
Yeah. My player has native support for Ogg Vorbis (and FLAC, if need be), so I haven't switched it to Rockbox.
      • kepstin-work also has some music that's only in lossy formats.
      • Leftmost
        375G/str/media/lossless/
      • Freso
        "str"?
      • Leftmost
        Storage.
      • Freso
        "store"?
      • Freso nods
      • kepstin-work
minus the vowels and useless letters, of course.
      • Leftmost
        Right.
      • I didn't want it to feel out of place in /.
      • Freso has /mnt/media - but then, that's also a separate partition, and I didn't feel like inventing a top level dir. :p
      • kepstin-work has /home/cwalton/Music
      • kepstin-work
        nice and simple :)
      • admittedly, that's technically just an alias of /mnt/mdraid/home/cwalton/Music/ :)
      • Leftmost
That's on my server. I have /home/sdeburca/ceol on my laptop.
      • kepstin-work
it's served on nfs as makoto.kepstin.ca:/home/cwalton/Music
      • (obviously firewalled from the internets...)
      • Freso
kepstin-work: Yeah. I have another login I sometimes boot to autologin as when I just want the machine to act as a mediacenter (ie., it'll boot into XBMC). I don't want to give that access to my $HOME. :)
      • kepstin-work
one of my friends wrote this silly script: http://draconx.ca/scripts/musicstats.zsh
      • kepstin-work installs zsh so he can run it.
      • Freso <3 zsh

My collection is all FLAC, save for the transcoded versions for portability.
      • kepstin-work has some direct artist downloads, a couple of itunes things, and a few things that simply predate his switch to lossless.
      • I don't tend to buy music unless I can get it in FLAC.
      • kepstin-work has actually bought cds a couple times because he wanted something better than the mp3 download.
      • One of Wisp's albums he distributed as mp3 that I had before my switch, but my desire for homogeneity eventually overrode my desire to keep that album.
      • Freso
        Heterophobe! D:

My media is meticulously organized, and part of that is homogeneity.
      • kepstin-work
      • my organization lacks in meticulousness.
      • Leftmost
Absolutely everything in my collection has been run through picard and is either in /str/media/lossless or /str/media/music.
      • kepstin-work
the 'PerfectMp3' folder in particular is full of junk :/
      • Leftmost
Maybe I should make it /str/media/music and /str/media/lossy.
      • kepstin-work doesn't add anything *new* unless it's been through picard.
      • kepstin-work
the stuff in the Flac, Mp3, Vorbis, and Opus directories is all picarded.
      • everything else... less so :/
      • Leftmost
kepstin-work, it was a big project, resorting everything.
      • As I'm sure you know.
      • kepstin-work
hmm. I'm down to only ~190gb of music that I haven't run through picard in there.
      • most of it is under 'Failing Music' which typically means that it predates me learning enough japanese to find out enough info to sort it better :)
      • Leftmost
        Haha.
      • kepstin-work
man, that folder is completely and utterly full of junk
      • I don't even load it in my music player.
      • robnester joined the channel
      • ... I think some of it is duplicates
      • at least all the stuff in the 'Failing' and 'Poorly Sorted' directories follows a consistent file naming scheme.
      • huh, I still haven't added the cardcaptor sakura christmas concert album to musicbrainz yet.
      • ... an album so awesome, it has its own japanese wikipedia page! https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%AB%E3%83%B...
      • man, url-encoded japanese is long.
      • Leftmost
That is a hell of a long page title anyhow.
      • kepstin-work
        "カードキャプターさくら 友枝小学校コーラス部 クリスマス・コンサート"
      • Leftmost
I have some albums still to add, but I'm feeling lazy right now.
      • kepstin-work
it has one song from the tv show, followed by 6 japanese adapted cover versions of classic christmas hymns.
