that's one less thing I have to say "oh, this bit hasn't been updated yet" when warp asks :)

aCiD2: do you know if it would be possible for release relationships to have a medium attribute?
2009-12-03 33752, 2009
aCiD2
what do you mean?
2009-12-03 33756, 2009
nikki
well at the moment, all the relationships on our current releases (which are more like mediums) are moved to the release and mediums/tracklists don't have any (hence http://bugs.musicbrainz.org/ticket/5501)
2009-12-03 33749, 2009
aCiD2
ah
2009-12-03 33739, 2009
nikki
it was just something that randomly occurred to me
2009-12-03 33748, 2009
aCiD2
well mediums aren't a core entity in NGS, so they can't be part of a relationship atm
2009-12-03 33752, 2009
aCiD2
ditto with tracklists
2009-12-03 33714, 2009
aCiD2
I think what lukas wants, is to have track x-y have the relationship
2009-12-03 33716, 2009
nikki
well the idea is that the relationship would still be a release relationship, but you'd be able to say "this only applies to medium n"
2009-12-03 33724, 2009
aCiD2
and the UI would display as "tracks x -y were dj mixed by foo"
2009-12-03 33751, 2009
aCiD2
yea, but that's inconsistent. if you moved the medium, we'd have to somehow know the relationship needs to be changed
2009-12-03 33705, 2009
aCiD2
there's no integrity checks in the database for that
2009-12-03 33735, 2009
nikki
hmm
2009-12-03 33712, 2009
nikki
I was actually thinking of something else though, not dj mixing
2009-12-03 33726, 2009
nikki
like I've pondered about a "has pre-gap track" relationship for quite a while, and it might make sense to have a "has data track tracklisting thingy" one too, which would really only apply to a specific medium
2009-12-03 33702, 2009
nikki
I don't know why I keep thinking about these things, it's not like I actually have any dj mixes, tracks from the data track or pre-gap tracks :P
2009-12-03 33736, 2009
aCiD2
lol, i do though :)
2009-12-03 33724, 2009
nikki
yeah, but I'm not doing your thinking :P

ijabz: do you know if the webservice uses iso 639-2/T or iso 639-2/B for the language codes?
2009-12-03 33713, 2009
nikki_
or a less technical question, will it return "ger" or "deu" for german?
2009-12-03 33734, 2009
warp
hello!
2009-12-03 33708, 2009
warp
is it weird for me to wonder if there is a decent music player for the ipod touch?
2009-12-03 33708, 2009
nikki_
and I mean the ngs one
2009-12-03 33715, 2009
nikki_
no
2009-12-03 33746, 2009
nikki_
er, misread that...
2009-12-03 33756, 2009
nikki_
yes :P there's never a decent music player :P
2009-12-03 33701, 2009
ijabz
Nikki, it uses the isocode_3t column from the db
2009-12-03 33713, 2009
nikki_
ijabz: ah, good.
2009-12-03 33741, 2009
warp
nikki_: hah
2009-12-03 33757, 2009
ijabz
but looking at the db that would be 'deu' which seems to be opposite to what you said
2009-12-03 33715, 2009
nikki_ didn't say "respectively" ;)
2009-12-03 33720, 2009
nikki_
deu is T and ger is B
2009-12-03 33743, 2009
ijabz
k
2009-12-03 33732, 2009
warp
lol
2009-12-03 33706, 2009
nikki_
T is a much better choice (IMO) because the later versions are all based on the T codes
2009-12-03 33751, 2009
nikki_
and at some point I'm going to convince someone that we really should add the codes for kölsch, mandarin, cantonese and who knows what else (which are only in iso 639-3) :P
2009-12-03 33738, 2009
ijabz
Well sure, if theres a new spec I would push to get that into the db now
2009-12-03 33753, 2009
nikki_
hmm...
2009-12-03 33707, 2009
ijabz
before NGS comes active, why not ?
2009-12-03 33721, 2009
nikki_
good point, since it'd be a schema change if we add another column
2009-12-03 33737, 2009
nikki_
it wouldn't make sense to add all of iso 639-3 (there's around 8000 languages in it :P) but if we were to switch to using those codes (which are pretty much the same as the iso 639-2/T ones) it would make it easy to add languages which only have a part 3 code if people want them...
2009-12-03 33723, 2009
nikki_
and I know adding them can be done without a schema change because ainu randomly showed up one day, and it wasn't there before
2009-12-03 33708, 2009
ijabz
8000, blimey, so is it just additions or are any 639-2/T codes changed/removed ?
2009-12-03 33752, 2009
nikki_
I think there might have been some removed (I need to check), but if I'm right, they should be ones which are hidden from the user on mb anyway
2009-12-03 33756, 2009
nikki_ will investigate in a bit
2009-12-03 33727, 2009

it's like a really slow game of table tennis
2009-12-03 33753, 2009
aCiD2`
aaand, I setup Jira, if you want to have a look. It seems really nice, but I'm not sure if Trac can do the same
