jesus2099, reosarevok: The reason that I feel the sidebar should go away is because it's fixed width and so some content doesn't fit nicely inside it. It also causes a lot of wasted space below the sidebar
What I want to do is put a lot of the metadata in the main view above the release listing / track list
And yeah, "MB UI TLC"... I couldn't think of an appropriate name so I just went with a bunch of acronyms
ruaok
navap: you could've gone with Worf. :)
navap___
uh, I was never a big star trek fan so I don't know how Worf relates to GSoC
Unless you mean a totally different Worf...
kepstin-laptop
technically, this is a UI redesign that comes after The Next Generation schema; maybe we should use a DS9 character.
ruaok
not a big star trek fan?
ruaok throws the "do not accept" switch
kepstin-laptop
huh, apparently the decibel api includes musicbrainz "artist, album, and track" ids as foreign ids.

I'm not clicking on anything after you rick-rolled us in your application.
navap___
hah
kepstin-laptop
I should make a site where you paste a youtube link, it checks the video with an audio id system, then tells you if you're going to be rick-rolled or not ;)
but I wont, because that would be hard.
ruaok
that would be a great service. :)
navap___
luks should do that as a demo of his product :p
Freso
navap___: I used that "song" for the /topic link in one of the freeze weeks around Christmas :p
Freso happily clicks almost anything
(But then, I also sometimes rick-roll myself just because I haven't heard the song in a while...)
ruaok: What am I supposed to try on that link you posted?
Is it possible to interject Picard before it saves/moves/renames a file using plugins?
navap___
Doesn't the scripting run when you press save?
Freso
Maybe? :p

Google announced a massive price drop for their cloud services today. Storage went from S3 pricing at ~8 cents/GB down to 2.6 cents/GB.
ruaok
nice. :)
navap___
This is perfect because I was looking at storage pricing options for a project just this past weekend
ruaok
it might be time to put my music collection into my own private could
cloud even
navap___
That's my project ;)
ruaok
addressable by MBIDs?
navap___
Yup
ruaok
simple HTTP GETs?
writable to with Picard?
navap___
Picard integration, hmm I hadn't thought of that
ruaok
every musicbrainz user can now have their own personal music cloud.
picard integration is free if you can mount the cloud as a local fs
navap___
I don't think you can do that with S3, not sure about google's offering
ruaok
Google drive has a dropbox like system.
so, there is a local drive that gets mounted to your FS.
so, ignore that part. :)
navap___
Drive is different from the cloud storage
ruaok
oh, bummer.
navap___
Drive is your G+, gmail, and dropbox alternative. The cloud pricing is closer to S3

> With global edge-caching, your users have fast access to your app’s data from any location.
cheap hosting for our static content? so they are more local to people?
navap___
What I was working on was a system that doesn't store any data other than the recording and release MBID. All the other metadata is dynamically fetched from MB so it's always up to date
It was taking 12 seconds to view a page with four recordings due to the rate limit :p But caching dropped that down to a few ms.
ruaok
some caching would be nice. :)
:-D
nikki
what happens when there's no internet connection? :P
navap___
You read a book
Or the radio of course
Mineo
nikki: do you have to ask such question after I've had no internet access for most of today?:/
ruaok
streaming requires bandwidth.
:p
nikki
navap___: a radio? what's that? :P the only radio I've listened to in the last 15 years has been via the internet :P
navap___
What's great is if everything is done via MBIDs then you can merge and dedupe librarys. As long as everything is tagged correctly initialled.

hm.
I was just listening to a track, thinking. Man these people sound drunk.
