I actually managed to install most of the required perl modules from debian packages, and the remaining few that were missing, I installed into system dirs using cpan. seemed the easiest way to get it running :)

I don't remember exactly, but I think if you go into ./po/ and run make mb_server.pot, it'll update the file (and you can do a diff to see how out of date it is)

and you'll need to change your accept language thing in your browser to request the language you want to see (that's another thing we don't have yet, a way to actually change the language without fiddling with settings)
