so, did anyone have any ideas on how to fix the area bot?
I've heard a couple of mutters.
but I feel that we don't really have enough of a quorum to carry on with this.
ianmcorvidae
right, so, this is a hard problem because possibly what we need is participants
ruaok
bueller?
ianmcorvidae
but the closest proxy for that we have would probably be integrating it with musicbrainz-server
not sure, re: quorum, nikki's asleep
bitmap knows very little about how the bot currently works
but we can discuss a bit at least, possibly, make sure people who are here know what's up?
ruaok
or leave it for the summit. :)
it seems a like a decent summit topic.
ianmcorvidae
bitmap: it's nikki's work, runs on rika, uses wikidata's structural data and types to add new areas to MB
and my geonames stuff also runs under the username, though that's a separate (and more crappy :P) script
bitmap
okay
ianmcorvidae
well, that's how it works when it's running, at least, which it hasn't been lately
bitmap
I knew it was nikki's and used wikidata, but had no idea where it was set up
ianmcorvidae
primarily because of maintainability concerns
though also because it might be better to use geonames data rather than wikidata
since wikidata is a newer and vaguer project
which also ties into the other topic of the geonames mapping, of course, but :)
ruaok
hmm. ok. I understand lightly more now. ;)
I'll add it to the topic list of the summit.
anything we should talk about?
ianmcorvidae
yeah, it may be the "night track" discussion topic, if not inline
ruaok
yeah.
ianmcorvidae
(i.e. more informal. but I dunno, maybe it'd work more formally)
ruaok
I think we should really focus to split up more this year.
Freso
ruaok: I don't know if it has been noticed, but I added Zikme to the list of presentations.
ruaok
perfect.
Freso
But I obviously didn't actually approach them about it.
So just wanted to be sure they actually have a presentation for us... ? :)
ruaok
I already let them know that they should give us a presentation, but I disallowed powerpoint.
ianmcorvidae
haha
Freso
Haha. Good. ;)
ianmcorvidae
and here I was wondering if I should make slides for some of mine :P
ruaok
I asked them to just informally present their idea. from geeks to geeks.
Freso
+1
ianmcorvidae
(but I might have diagrams? dunno :P)
ruaok
ianmcorvidae: I would expect your slides to not half naked women and be super dense with data. all good. :)
ianmcorvidae
heh, presumably graphviz and LaTeX output? :P
ruaok
bring it. :)
I enjoyed the lunch I had with those two.
I've met a lot of people trying to start things here and there, but somehow those two seem more realistic about things.
reosarevok
You had lunch with graphviz and LaTeX output? :p
ruaok
we just need to make sure they drink the open source koolaid.
reosarevok: yes, it was a quite intimate affair.
:)
right. lets close for the evening.
thanks everyone
ruaok has changed the topic to: Supercooled liquid week | Agenda:
reosarevok
reosarevok has changed the topic to: Er... pretty hot week? | Agenda:
Freso
That was an action packed meeting.
Phew.
ruaok
I'm trying to reserve the small room now.
it still can take 25 people.
not sure if that will be ok with them.
Freso
At Studenterhuset?
ruaok
yep, submitted.
Freso
If so, feel free to put it in my name. Since I'm actually a student at KU.
Oh. Okay. :p
ruaok
they had a field for where you study.
UPF, barcelona.
heh.
Freso
:)
ruaok
alba would back me up on that.
Freso
Sure.
I doubt they'll check up on it though.
Church or Yard Wing?
ianmcorvidae
being present around people who know things you don't totally counts as being a student :P
Freso
:)
kloeri spends a decent amount of time at Studenterhuset
ruaok
yard wing.
ianmcorvidae
(I'll claim, anyway :P)
Freso
It's a neat spot.
And very central.
ruaok
ianmcorvidae: :)
kepstin-laptop ... technically hasn't graduated, so he's still sort of a student?
My feeling is that we're certainly bleeding heart liberal student like that they won't look twice.
now, if we all rolled in with suits, that would be a different matter.
bitmap: did you get your travelex card yet?
bitmap
yep, picked it up earlier this month
ruaok
do you have to pick it up or can they mail it?
bitmap
I think I remember seeing a mail option
ruaok
k.
I've referred several people to that now.
I've had another friend arrive in scandinavia and be shut out from renting bikes, for example.
Freso: did my friend ever make contact with you?
Freso
ruaok: Tourism-wise, Studenterhuset is also a good spot to have the early-arrivers meet at. It's close to some of the more central train stations (Nørreport being the closest, but the central station isn't too far either), next to Rundetårn (one of the Cph landmarks), and next to "Strøget", the Cph walking/shopping street.
ruaok
yep, which is exactly why I jumped on that.
Freso
ruaok: Yep. But we didn't meet up this time around, since I've been busy all day today.
ruaok
I can meet ian and nikki at the train. bitmap and reo arrive around noon.
Freso
ruaok: And one of the reasons I brought it up, too. :)
ruaok
and I think I'll just send them to the student house directly.
Freso
Good idea.
ruaok
which makes all of this really easy. lets hope they are cool with us meeting there.
so, thanks for the tip.
bitmap
iirc there's a 5.5% "foreign exchange fee" if you run out of the local currency
ruaok
if they give me a hassle about being a student, can I lean on you to help out Freso ?
bitmap: ok, sucks, but with some planning it can be avoided.
bitmap
yeah
ruaok
can you link your bank account to the card?
meaning that within a few clicks you can initiate a transfer?
Freso
ruaok: Sure thing.
ruaok
grand
Freso
I just poked a guy I believe is volunteering there... he may or may not be involved with locale bookings. I can't remember. Anyway. He's poked about it now, and if he is, I'll ask him about it.
bitmap
ruaok: don't think so, since they claim it's a security risk
but you can reload with a debit card online
Freso
AFAIK, most places accept VISA btw.
ianmcorvidae
Freso: remember that the US doesn't have chip/pin cards though
