because I've not heard anyone request that feature.
      • Leftmost
        Which, tagging or access?
      • ruaok
        access.
      • if I were you, I would setup the mb_server on your nox.
      • box
      • Leftmost
That's one of the listed ideas on the GSoC page, and there was positive response on both lists.
      • ruaok
and try and work on a feature.
      • Leftmost
        I'm working on that now.
      • ruaok
that should get you a clue as to how long things will take.
      • good!
      • Leftmost
The biggest problem with working on a feature right now is time. I would really love to, and I would have loved to last week, but the semester is getting close to ending and that means crunch time. I'm doing my best to work on the application and put in a good amount of work, but I have to stay within reason.
      • ruaok
well, make some educated guesses about what you think you can do and put it into the app.
      • Leftmost
Alright. I'll keep working on it. And I'm sorry for the conflict. I understand that you absolutely _need_ to filter out students who wouldn't take their projects to completion. I personally tend to err on the side of inquisitive.
      • Hence the questions.
      • ruaok
        :-)
      • Leftmost
Largely, I'm just not used to coding (specifically) under a deadline. Both where I work and on the OSS projects I've worked on, time is usually not critical. So I'm less inclined to trust my own time judgment.
      • ruaok
        heh. yeah.
      • but this is part of your education. trying to get used to that.
      • Leftmost
        That's true.
      • ruaok
        ok, sushi calls me. bbiab.
      • Leftmost

      • jensl
        bad omen
      • navap_
I've been helping a friend setup the MB server (screen -x FTW!) and the import just finished with
      • Loaded 61 tables (40921524 rows) in 636 seconds Failed to import dataset. Tue Apr 6 23:34:30 2010 : InitDb.pl failed
      • Nothing said "error" in the import log.
      • iarp
        idc if he connects
      • navap_
hey look at that, iarp is alive.
      • iarp
haha as soon as you went quiet i knew you'd be in here
      • ruaok
navap_: can you pastebin as much of the log as possible?
      • or mail it to me
      • navap
ruaok: iarp was only importing the one mbdump.tar.gz file though, not all of the dumps
      • I created a typescript, just like you showed me ;)
      • ruaok
that is most likely the problem. import derived and editor and it should work better.
      • nice on the typescript -- useful, no?
      • navap
Yeah, much easier to grep that then stare at the screen the entire time.
      • ruaok
typescript and screen are a good combo for remote admin
      • navap_
Okay we'll reimport with those two other dumps as well and see how it goes.
      • ruaok
        mail -s log rob@ < typescript
      • lemme gander at it.
      • iarp
        hope you get that lol
      • sent.
      • line 7828 has an error on it
      • ruaok
aCiD2 hit this as well, but then it magically went away.
      • but magically may very well have been that he import *all* the data and it worked fine.
      • editor and derived is what you really need in order to run an mb instance
      • iarp
        3rd times the charm hopefully.
      • ruaok crosses his finger
      • navap
ahem, hopefully the 5th time round will be the real charm.
      • We had some dump file path issues :)
      • iarp
        twice.
      • navap
ruaok: DBD::Pg::db pg_putcopyend failed: ERROR: missing data for column "quality"
      • When loading release
      • This is with the main dump, derived and editor

      • ruaok
which dataset are you attempting to load?
      • navap
It was the 20100317 dump files I believe
      • ruaok
and what codebase do you have running?
      • navap
There haven't been any commits to core.git lately, so I imagine it would be the same thing that is on git.musicbrainz.org
      • iarp's gone for the night though and I don't have ssh access in anymore.

      • ruaok

      • ruaok
        k
      • the last commit killed it.
      • damn, I thought was in.
      • ruaok is getting tired of this game
      • navap
        :(
      • That's an easy fix then, just reset to an earlier commit and reimport?
      • ruaok
        yes
      • go to the 2010-03-03 version
      • navap
Okay got it, but reset to that commit or reset to the commit before that one?
      • ruaok
the one before I would guess.
      • navap
Okay I'll see how that goes tomorow.
      • Thanks
      • ruaok
our online git browsing sucks ass.
      • when you get it checked out, make sure that admin/sql/CreateTables does not have the quality column defined.
      • navap
Not to keep saying the same thing, but take a look at... http://github.com/navap/mb_server/commits/maste...
      • ruaok
if its not in the file, the data should import.
      • duh. thanks for pointing me there again. I'll get it before too long. :)

        meh, ruaok's test.musicbrainz.org dump won't import.
      • nikki
        how come?
      • warp
it's an .sql dump, not something to use with pg_restore
      • and postgres is complaining about a bunch of things it can't parse in that file.
      • ofcourse I destroyed my previous databases, so now I have no database.
      • I'm going to import the january dump first, because I know that one works and I will atleast be able to code/hack again.
      • after that I'll try importing the test.musicbrainz.org dump in a new database, without destroying my current one :)
      • xiainx joined the channel
      • hm, the january dump also fails. odd.
      • nikki
        :/
      • warp drop databases, reinstalls postgresql-unaccent, and runs it again but with --echo this time.

didn't navap's friend get that earlier and it was something to do with the missing quality column?
      • warp
I haven't had that trouble myself yet, so far I've always been able to just import the database and then do the alter table.
      • but I don't know if/when that quality column went into which repo :)
