        so cool :)
      • what can I do for ye, Leftmost?
      • warp
it's always like that at autechre, everytime I've seen them. but this is the first time I've seen it announced and that the bar is closed.
      • Leftmost
I find myself in a position where putting in the required work to put together a decent application for GSoC would really screw with uni for me. I've got two exams tomorrow and a major conference presentation next week.
      • As such, I'm going to withdraw my application.
      • aCiD2
they didn't do a black out when I saw them, but the lights were certainly dimmed, no strobe or anything
      • warp
        nooooooo
      • Leftmost
But I'm hoping that you would still be willing to work with me on collections (if no one else does so) during the summer.
      • aCiD2
Leftmost: of course, but I'd say reconsider :)
      • I think we could make GSoC work given your constraints and that
      • Leftmost
Well, I'm just concerned that my application isn't sufficient. (It was never intended to be a final draft.)
      • aCiD2
        hm
      • and that you don't have the time right now to improve it?
      • Leftmost
Right. I'd really like to improve it, but at this juncture I just have to prioritize school.
      • aCiD2 understands
      • aCiD2
I'm starting to focus on my exams now too, as they are just over 2 weeks away
      • warp
the application is important, but we don't judge these things solely on that.
      • for example your participation here on irc also counts, etc..
      • Leftmost: I would appreciate it if you could try to improve it as best as you can given these constraints
      • Leftmost: so skip screenshots
      • (screenshots/mockups tend to be time consuming :)
      • Leftmost
Well, if you think I should leave the application in, I can edit it with some of the things we've talked about. (Scoping up, etc.)
      • I've got a bit of scheduling done and some thoughts on the ordering/structure of work as well, which I can add.
      • warp
Leftmost: yes, if your timeconstraints are just for now.. and you're free to work during the normal SOC schedule in the summer months
      • Leftmost
Yeah. The semester is over in early May and I'm not taking summer courses.
      • aCiD2
I certainly wouldn't let some time constraints in the application period put you off and withdrawing
      • warp
Leftmost: please keep it in, improve what you can.
      • aCiD2
i'll talk to ruaok later tonight and let him know what's up and we'll see what he says
      • Leftmost
        Alright, thanks.
      • aCiD2
ok, I gotta get off to uni and make it look like I've spent 2 weeks on this dissertation :P
      • bbl!
      • warp
        lol
      • good luck aCiD2
      • Leftmost digs into some graph theory.
      • warp digs into taglookup.html
      • aCiD2 digs into his bike pedals
      • Leftmost
I'll get some of that stuff worked into the application at lunch today.
      • Reminds me. I need to fix my bike.
      • warp
hrm, now LWP cannot reach my search server, but curl/wget/browser can.

warp: what would you think about using something like django for the proposal tracking system...?
      • warp: I'm suggesting that framework, because it's written in Python, and I understand integrating co-ment in isn't that bad on a python framework like Django

        hi
      • jensl
ruaok: is there anything else you miss or want to be stated more clear in my proposal? you requested a UI mock-up that I added and nothing more, so i am unsure...
      • ruaok
gimme a sec, but I think your proposal is complete.
      • jensl
        ok
      • ruaok
jensl: so the only thing I would love for you to add to the proposal is a quick note:
      • If my mentor would like to have this implemented in pure java and not use jqtouch g<whatevergluelayer> I would agree to do this in java.
      • or, better yet. adjust your proposal to simply say that you're doing it in java.
      • that would actually be better.
      • we're generally disutrustful of those toolkits that generate code.
      • jensl
ok so you want everything in java, no mobile optimized pages, not even for search etc. where it would be possible?
      • then we could integrate the pages seemlessly into the java app
      • ruaok
yes, no mobile pages and a complete native android app with no fancy toolkits.
      • jensl
        ok
      • then i will throw all the stuff out :)
      • warp waves
      • hi warp
      • ruaok
        thanks jensl
      • jensl
        thanks for feedback
      • ruaok
np. thanks for the nice looking app.
      • I'm looking forward to going over it with a fine tooth comb on the plane tomorrow.
      • jensl
        have fun :)
      • we even do not need mobile optimized pages, once finished with android it is not more than 4 weeks work to port it to the iphone (excluding barcode)
      • one last thing concerning the proposal, before i came up with the idea of mobile optimized pages, someone suggested the idea on the mailing list to deploy the barcode scanning stuff as an openintent, what do you think about this?
      • ruaok
openintent allows others to initiate the barcode submit process?
      • aCiD2
        ahhh, chilli simmering away
      • so much for burgers
      • ruaok
        wha happen?
      • jensl
yes allows other to use the barcode stuff
      • aCiD2
thought it'd be more fun to make homemade flour tortillas and a chilli
      • jensl
at least retrieve information, maybe submit (depends what we want)
      • ruaok hands aCiD2 a tortilla press
      • ruaok
jensl: that sounds like fun. :)
      • aCiD2
student tortillas* no rolling pin, i get to press them using 2 plates
      • ruaok
        ah, ghetto tortillas
      • can you actually buy tortillas in a store?
      • We have a large section of tortillas here. small, big, medium. flour, corn. lard, no lard. tomato, spinach tortillas
      • its crazy
      • aCiD2
yea, they are pretty bad though - and no, not a selection like that here - just 5 different ones maybe
      • ruaok nods
      • ruaok
that reminds me, I need to eat several more burritos before I leave.
      • lest I get withdrawals again.
      • jensl
ruaok: ok will state it in my prop

        melange is annoying.
      • jensl
yes definitely, everything has to be ajaxified and the editor destroyed the whole layout of my proposal
      • ruaok
I know that melange is an ongoing source of frustration. :(

apparently the gsoc proposal editor adds arbitrary line spacing and formatting even if you specify the layout in html :/

crazy, they should have a gsoc student fix Melange
      • ruaok

      • jdamcd
        ahh :)
      • philip6137
yes the editor is quite messy.

        django is pretty neat
      • ruaok nods
      • ruaok
but like RonR, its has is sweet spot of applications.
      • alastairp
        for sure
      • I can't find the beginning of the conversation - this is for an soc app?
      • ruaok
I dunno what we're even talking about...
      • navap
ruaok: I got my server up and running again. I used a pre-quality collumn commit to import my data and then I pulled from core.git to update.
      • ruaok
        ok, good.
      • navap
But now when I browse a release group page I get quality column errors, but test doesn't have those errors.
      • alastairp
        ruaok: heh, right
      • I just see a comment saying "django, yay!"
      • ruaok
        alter table release add column integer quality;
      • ruaok thinks that should work.
      • navap
ERROR: type "quality" does not exist
      • ruaok
        feh.
      • swap integer and quality
      • navap
        woohoo! Problem solved!
      • ruaok
        :-)
      • navap
iarp: See above, you probably want to do this too
      • ruaok
next person that comes in with this problem would you please guide them through this?
      • navap
        heh yeah
      • iarp: You'll need to run `./admin/psql READWRITE` to type that in by the way.
      • warp
ruaok: I had trouble importing the database too, earlier this week.
      • (I ended up just doing a checkout from february with the dump from january, because that seemed 'known good' to me :)
      • ruaok
        smart.
      • yeah, the quality commit on master is what kills it.
      • sadly I don't have time to do another import.
      • maybe I'll do one monday.
