I got this error when i executed admin/InitDB.pl: DBI connect('dbname=template1','postgres',...) failed: FATAL: role "postgres" does not exist at /home/ubuntu/perl5/lib/perl5/DBIx/Connector.pm line 32.
      • did I neglect something? since I never specified dbname as template1 and role as postgres; did I forget to change something?
      • ianmcorvidae
that's for the system user/superuser, which is needed for some parts of the database setup
      • it's the SYSTEM key in DBDefs
      • yanggao
        what should I do, ian?
      • ianmcorvidae
figure out what the issue is, probably :) I don't know why your system wouldn't have a postgres user, so you'll need to figure out what the superuser name is and then update the configuration
      • LordSputnik
yanggao: I had this issue the other day, let me see if I can remember for you
      • yanggao
        thanks!!
      • LordSputnik
I think it was to do with the setup of the database authentication (pg_hba.conf/pg_ident.conf) - I think I got it working by using the "alternative" setup for development purposes (listed below the main authentication setup)
      • ianmcorvidae
that wouldn't tell you it doesn't exist, at worst it'd tell you you don't have access
      • LordSputnik
if I'd wanted to set up the mb server, I would've found a proper solution, but since I only wanted access to the database, I decided to just use the "local all all trust" line
      • yanggao
I removed all lines in “/etc/postgresql/9.3/main/pg_hba.conf”, and inserted this: “/etc/postgresql/9.3/main/pg_hba.conf” as in “Alternatively”
      • And I got the error as described…
      • LordSputnik
        here's my conf file: http://pastebin.com/BJQ30XZP
      • try using that - if it doesn't work, I'll go back a bit further in my history
      • Nyanko-sensei joined the channel
      • TheCanadianBaker
Okay, so I have made progress... I now know that the plugin fails when I call file.save()
      • LordSputnik
also, have you modified the database username in lib/DBDefs.pm at all? if not, then you'll need to create the "musicbrainz" user
      • ianmcorvidae
InitDb creates the user for you, that's one of the things it needs superuser for
      • TheCanadianBaker
        any issues with that?
      • LordSputnik
        ianmcorvidae: it didn't when I followed INSTALL.md
      • ianmcorvidae
      • LordSputnik
        hmm ok
      • yanggao: how are you running the command? Just "./admin/InitDb.pl --createdb --import ..."? Also, did you restart the database server after you updated the pg_* files ("sudo service postgresql restart")?
      • yanggao
do you mean instead of “./admin/InitDb.pl”, I should use “sudo ./admin/InitDb.pl”?
      • LordSputnik
no, I don't think so... I attempted "sudo -u postgres ./admin/InitDB.pl" a few times, but the last one I ran was just a plain "./admin/InitDB.pl"
      • yanggao
        I see.
      • LordSputnik: I am using your pg_hba.conf, and restarted server, does not work…
      • LordSputnik
hmm, what does the output of "sudo -u postgres ./admin/InitDB.pl" give you? Is it any different?
      • yanggao
        $ sudo -u postgres ./admin/InitDB.pl
      • sudo: ./admin/InitDB.pl: command not found
      • LordSputnik
        oh sorry, "./admin/InitDb.pl"
      • I put a B instead of a b
      • yanggao

        BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at ./admin/InitDb.pl line 35.
      • LordSputnik
        I also got that
      • ianmcorvidae
yeah, that'll happen when you switch to a different user
      • also, if you're putting a lot of lines in chat, you should be using a pastebin
      • yanggao
        I see… thanks.
      • ianmcorvidae
as I said already, permissions are not going to be your problem, you're missing a superuser or have it under a different nabe
      • name*
      • yanggao
could you be more detailed what I should do?
      • LordSputnik
yanggao: following that, I tried installing MooseX::Singleton, but that wasn't the right thing to do
      • yanggao
        me either! tried that.
      • LordSputnik
I also checked the dependencies using "cpanm ."
      • ianmcorvidae
LordSputnik: do you just have me ignored? you seem to be fond of saying worthless things that won't be helpful after I've told you they won't
      • yanggao
        sorry! that is my fault
      • LordSputnik
ianmcorvidae: all I'm doing is trying to repeat what worked for me
      • perhaps the manual needs fixing if two users run into the exact same problem less than two weeks apart?
      • ianmcorvidae
apparently it didn't work for you, or you had a different problem, since all of your proposed steps have been obviously wrong
      • the solution here is to figure out what is wrong with your postgresql install, since that's the issue. possibly some distribution is doing something destructive with their postgres package and that's the root of it -- maybe that warrants adding to the instructions if it can be narrowed to that
      • anyway, I'd consider looking at some of the solutions on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7863770/rail...
      • I can't give specific recommendations becaus it's specific to whatever's broken about your server, which obviously I can't determine
      • TheCanadianBaker
        Hey guys
      • I just upgraded to the dev 1.3 from 1.2
      • and HOLY SHIT
      • It is fast, and slick
      • You guys are doing awesome!
      • Thank you for all your hard work
      • bitmap
glad to hear that, it's a nice departure from the angry support emails we normally get XD
      • TheCanadianBaker
Well, some people are just dumb
      • :p

I had started to write some code a few months ago to generate one of those top 10 albums lists on last.fm, just with images from the CAA
      • turns out it's not obvious that "dhis" means "das hör ich so" :P
      • ianmcorvidae
        haha
      • anyway cool
      • Gentlecat
ruaok: getting visa wasn't so hard after all :)
      • ruaok
        wow, good.
      • glad to hear it.
      • Gentlecat
probably because we are too far from all the action
      • is it possible in CAA for some release group or release to have multiple images with the same type?
      • ianmcorvidae
release groups always have exactly one image and it's always a front
      • releases can have multiple images of the same type, however
      • (the release group image is really just a pointer to a release to use the so-called "frontiest" image (i.e. the one marked Front closest to the front of the list) from)
      • Gentlecat
        okay, thanks

Hey, to anyone on the picard team
      • I have been running some large collections through 1.3, and I have noticed that if there are a large group of files selected while saving it seems to go much slower
      • I would assume this is because it is updating the Original and New panes, but I can't be sure
      • However, when I deselect the tracks being saved, and select a single release, track or even a group that isnt being saved, this behaviour does not occur
      • Just though I would through it out there... Maybe try suspending the updates on save and see if there is a significant performance gain
      • or if I am just crazy :p
      • Thank you guys for all your hard work (all of the teams)
      • You guys are amazing!
      • ianmcorvidae
picard folks might check here, but you might (also) consider filing an issue at http://tickets.musicbrainz.org/browse/PICARD with what you're seeing
      • (if nothing else, it's easier to search and find later that way!)
      • TheCanadianBaker
        Thanks ianmcorvidae
      • Will do
      • Though probably when I am slightly more coherent
