I suppose it doesn't really matter today.
      • When we bring more server and mirrors online that will matter.
      • djce
Actually earlier on I was looking at the "rewrite" rules we use....
      • ruaok
The load is ten and we only have 25 https running.
      • Is that good or bad?
      • :-)
      • djce
I was thinking that "/artist/uuid......" could be the HTML page on "www.", and the RDF on "mm...."
      • Good, I think :-)
      • Hard to say!
      • I think perceived / actual HTTP response time is probably the better measure
      • ruaok
Well, the site responds pretty snappily.
      • djce
        Yup
      • ruaok
And fewer https is good too, I suppose.
      • djce
        Ah, another thought:
      • the web log analyser is now only going to be looking at the back-end log file.
      • Perhaps it should be moved to look at the front-end log only? Or as well?
      • ruaok
on our busiest day in feb we pushed 3.6Gb of traffic out the door.
      • ohh, good thought.
      • Not sure how webalizer handles this.
      • Does the proxy log the requests for the backend as well?
      • djce
        Yes.
      • backend is a subset of proxy
      • ruaok
So by analyzing the proxy we get an accurate picture of the traffic on the site, no?
      • djce
yes, should be. Just like the old log file, before the proxy appeared.
      • Of course, since the proxy was turned on just about 34 hours ago, it will have processed at least some of the wrong data.
      • ruaok
where are the log files for the proxy?
      • djce
        /usr/local/perl58/apache2/logs
      • ruaok
ok, I will stick webalizer on those logs then.
      • Lets see what happens. :-)
      • djce
        ok
      • You don't know much about "logwatch" do you?
      • ruaok
        sorry, no.
      • djce
        :-(
      • ruaok
do you mind if we switch the log format for the proxy to combined?
      • verus
does tune-tagger look at id3v1 tag or id3v2?
      • ruaok
        dunno. MB tagger does both.
      • djce
A machine at work, which normally runs happily unattended for months on end, suddenly went ape yesterday. logwatch used up loads of CPU, all the disk, and took the machine down :-(
      • log format: go ahead
      • ruaok
        k
      • djce
        But is it not already?
      • ruaok
doesn't look like it on first inspection. I'll double check.
      • djce
        CustomLog logs/access_log combined
      • httpd.conf line 516
      • ruaok
        never mind then. :-)
      • djce
        :-)
      • Actually, the only thing missing from the proxy logs is the moderator name in the "username" field.
      • tough :-)
      • ruaok
        running webalizer now.
      • djce
        ok.
      • It knows where to start looking from, yes?
      • ruaok
it keeps a history so it should be smart enough.
      • djce
        Not per-file specific, hopefully
      • ruaok
        seems ok.
      • the numbers for march looked off before, but now they seem to be right on.
      • Another thing taken care of.
      • so, I've got a question for you....
      • It pertains to how we work together and divvy up the server work.
      • djce
        ok
      • ruaok
There are tons of little things here and there that need to get done.
      • at what point do I do it and when do I punt it to you?
      • You're not my slave so I don't want to punt everything to you.
      • djce
        For server code only, yes?
      • ruaok
        yes
      • any ideas or guidelines you would suggest?
      • djce
hmmm. In general I think it's safe to say you're able to spend more time on MB than I can.
      • mmm.....
      • ruaok
        yup.
      • djce thinks
      • djce
I don't know. Well I am pretty much always contactable, time zones permitting.
      • So you could just ask, and I'll say whether I think it would be better for me, or you, to do it.
      • ruaok
Its not so much about availability than about workload
      • One thing I thought of was to use the bug tracking more.
      • djce
Yes, but as long as I'm here to be asked, and I respond when you ask, then we can just work it out as we go.
      • ruaok
So, when I think of something that needs to get done, I will enter a bug.
      • djce
But I like my flat text "TODO" file :-)
      • ruaok
Do I have permission to edit that file?
      • (porverbial, not chmod)
      • djce
The copy on zim is currently overwritten by a cron job from my copy here. But we could always nominate the zim copy as the master.
      • ruaok
And then we could add a 'Rob seys' section.
      • djce
Hold on, I'll just disable the cron job...
      • ruaok
Then if I add something to that list, and you disagree or don't feel like doing it (which are valid responses) you can just put it back onto my todo list.
      • djce
Done. Now the master copy is dave zim.musicbrainz.org:./public_html/TODO.txt
      • And where is your TODO list?
      • ruaok
        same place.
      • just my account.
      • djce
        ~rob/public_html ?
      • ruaok
        dah
      • and if you have something for me that I need to do, please edit my file.
      • djce
        ok
      • ruaok
        perfect.
      • djce
Bug tracking tools? Who need them? Pah! :-)
      • ruaok
I wish it was this easy working with 'normal' workmates.
      • djce
Now the next obvious step is to keep the TODO files in CVS, so that mb-commits tells us when they've changed :-)
      • But maybe e-mail and IRC do that job better.
      • ruaok
        Hmmm. Not a bad idea.
      • Yeah.
      • When we're out and about talking I will just mention things to you.
      • djce
        ok
      • Sorted!
      • ruaok
now what was it that I wanted to add to your list???
      • djce
        Nothing! ;-)
      • ruaok
        eh, I'll remember later.
      • (besides we may not have enough disk space for all that)
      • djce
        Artist URL data?
      • ruaok
        :-)
      • do you want to do that one or should I?
      • lovegnome
        lovegnome (~bryan@adsl-63-202-145-178.dsl.snlo01.pacbell.net) has joined #musicbrainz
      • djce
I'd be really happy to take on all sorts, once the staging server update is out of the way. That pending update is making me nervous.
      • ruaok
        hehehe.
      • when do you want to do the update? tomorrow?
      • today?
      • I'm easy.
      • lovegnome
Someone one to double check a bug on the staging server for me?
      • ruaok
        sure -- whats up?
      • lovegnome
        Just a sec...
      • djce
ruaok: can you do the "cvsstat" thing on the staging server for me? It's dead easy.
      • ruaok
djce: lovegnome is my friend, and he has been instrumental in testing the tagger and server features....
      • djce
        Kudos to lovegnome!
      • ruaok
        cvssta?
      • djce
        A little script of mine.
      • ruaok
        k
      • djce
Or maybe PowerNet's really, but it's dead handy :-)
      • There's a copy in ~dave/cvsstat
      • Just "cd" to the mb_server directory on the staging server,
      • then run "cvsstat" from there, and save the output.
      • All it does is "cvs status", collapsing the results to one line per file.
      • ruaok
        k
      • djce
Then I can compare the results to zim, and see what we're up against.
      • lovegnome
Hrm...I'm having trouble reproducing it in the normal browser, just the tagger. Look up the following CD Index: 9USL2slPfJe3Pn8D2nKpjpuGTLs-
      • Then try to edit the album's title.
      • I get: "The arguments supplied to this page are invalid.
      • Please check the arguments and then try loading this page again. "
      • djce
        Works for me
      • ruaok
jean just found some stuff we were missing before last years BM.
      • damn, those parts were expensive too. :-(
      • djce
lovegnome: is the error when you first click "Edit", or when you submit the edited name?
      • lovegnome
        When I click edit.
      • djce
What's the URL of the link you're clicking?
      • lovegnome
And I'm getting the same thing on the production server.
      • djce
      • Works for me on the staging server too
      • "Eminem Show", right?
      • lovegnome
Are you in a browser or in then mbtagger?
      • djce
        browser
      • lovegnome
        Yes. "Eminem Show"
      • It's only in the tagger. So I guess it's a client bug.
      • djce
        wait a mo...
      • You're moderator "lovegnome" too, right?
      • lovegnome
        djce...you do the webpages.
      • Yes.
