I finally got round to triple-booting my machine here at the weekend. RH9, Win98 or Debian Woody.

nice.

How are you liking RH9?

It's ok.

Any major pitfalls with the ?.0 release?

There was an odd thing where syslog, crond etc were running in the wrong timezone.

Which I hacked around.

Then a few days later it was fixed by "up2date".

I'd recommend all of 7.3, 8.0 and 9.0. No significant problems with any of them really.

Cool.

I'll probably still wait for 9.1 at least. :-)

Anyway, now I've got another 40Mb of storage space to spill into. And a second spindle for a swap partition.

I need a second spindle for my ext3 journals.

I have NO idea about anything that advanced. I just install it all with the defaults and let it rip.

Maybe I should look into doing just that though.... might speed things up a bit.

Any ideas where I can learn about that?

I just got a clue by four from my friends.

Kevin, who wrote the search stuff for MB, is now working at friendster.

And very soon he will be an expert on server optimization.

And I get to pick his brain for MB. :-)

My setup at home is totally fnorked.

I've got ext2 over a software raid1 on a 1.2ghz machine and it feels like my unraided ext3 700mhz machine at the office.

oh dear. Time to freshen things up. One day.

The suggested solution is to write the ext3 journals to a different drive and then use a long write ahead journal buffer and retard actual writes to the disk.

try removing the spaces in the attributes of the rdf:RDF element.

No, the "view album mods" link is VERY limited.

It really only finds album name edits, album adds and album removes.

It's because the only real FK on "moderation" is artist.

That's why "view artist mods" works,

but "view album mods" doesn't.

I did try to make it look for track mods on that album too, but it turned out just to be really sllooooooow.

I mean REALLY slow.

That's two down my list.

(i.e. the id is supposed to be on a CD with 14 tracks, but the cd has 15 tracks)

in between is a report to look for gaps in track numbers

e.g. 1,2,3, ,5,6,7.

Reports are nice and simple to create, and a fun way to play with Perl.

Not like those nasty, mean, tricky new features. Too much like hard work! ;-)

six of those are where the track count matches, but it's not just "1..n"

I'm not sure what to make of that.

If there is a way to screw things up, our users will do it. :-)
