This is why I'm totally dreading trying to get into linux. I can tell you every single aspect of my machine, but it seems like you know every aspect of your operating system.

Nyght: If you stick with a precooked distro initially, this will not be much of a problem. I'm trying to get something modern to work on an older linux OS. :-/

You know, I have the same problem with some of my older Windows boxen, too. There, however, I'm completely stuck if the binary is designed for XP, instead of 98. Eg, I can't run MBtagger on a Win98 box. Linux, at least, gives you the opportunity to mess about (oh, for joy).

Huh. Just read that entire saga, as well as the one you linked to. I must say, though, our discussion from this morning notwithstanding, I do believe that "(from the film BLAH)" is more clear. An AR would be better from the data management perspective, but only if MB can clearly present the info.

Nyght: Last time I rebooted one of my servers, it wouldn't come up again. After some brain tissue scarring, it turns out that a load of caps were tubed on the mobo. I am now recapping yet another one. Sigh.

I think what helped me most was not expecting it to work like windows

hehe, took me ages to find the preference in the control panel for how the mouse worked though, the scrolly wheel had never worked in windows so I didn't expect it to in linux (in fact, I didn't know what it was)

then one day, I changed it and my life was transformed! :o

I had a mouse with two wheels once, it was really nice, cause you had up and down and left to right if that's what you chose to do.

I've used various other mice, but I'm quite content with two buttons and a clickable scrolly wheel

Mine as well has a single button for back and forth nav on the web. I'm not for a ton of dodads but, those are very handy indeed.

Nyght does remind me, though, that there are new wheel mice out there where the entire plane of the wheel tilts left-and-right. I could learn to like that, I think.

I like the ridges, but I like the smooth low-detent feel... not so much into the hard click-click as it rolls.

my clicks don't feel hard, but I can move it down one click, with the newer MS ones I didn't feel anything

so it was really hard to judge just how far you've scrolled

it felt horrible :o

I guess it's like keyboards: I like to be able to feel that I've pressed a key

Yep, the logitech doesn't have those ridges, but you can feel it. The thing I like about it is it's got a five year warranty and if it goes out, they send you the new one without any true difficulties, within like two days you're back to servicable with what you've grown accustomed to.

Hmm... no clue then Nikki, that is strange. I didn't like the feel of the grippies myself, but, figured you guaged something by the feel of how it moved beneath your fingers. Sorta like, artwork editing or something. (had a toggle I used to use when doing artwork, hard to explain but you knew one pixel when you moved it a certain way.)
