;) I sorta meant it that way.. if you can't see it, then you don't have it right?

nikki_: To return to the linux/Picard install. Did you just follow instructions? May I ask linux version you are running?
Sigh. "May I ask what..."
nikki_
debian testing
and I'm not sure, I've messed about so much I know the dependencies by heart :)
ArgoNavis
Cool. Well, then, I shall just rush into that place that angels can't be found.
nikki_
wxgtk 2.6, python ctypes, libmb and the python bindings, libtp and the python bindings
although picard 0.7 added libofa and pymb2
ArgoNavis
But if you have it working on Python 2.3, I have a chance. Thanks...!
nikki_
yup, never had a problem with picard and 2.3
wxgtk is the problematic one, compiled it once, *never* again
now I head over to wxpython.org and find some rpms
convert 'em with alien and I have handy .debs at a fraction of the stress and frustration!
Nyght
This is why I'm totally dreading trying to get into linux. I can tell you every single aspect of my machine, but it seems like you know every aspect of your operating system.
ArgoNavis
Nyght: If you stick with a precooked distro initially, this will not be much of a problem. I'm trying to get something modern to work on an older linux OS. :-/
nikki_: I appreciate the tips. Also, do you know if any of this has dependencies on kernel 2.6? Or do you think 2.4 would work?
Nyght
Okay... I'll believe you. :D
ArgoNavis
You know, I have the same problem with some of my older Windows boxen, too. There, however, I'm completely stuck if the binary is designed for XP, instead of 98. Eg, I can't run MBtagger on a Win98 box. Linux, at least, gives you the opportunity to mess about (oh, for joy).
mustaqila crawls off into bed to rot his brain on animu
nikki_
ArgoNavis: I honestly have no idea, but I can't think of any reason why it would be tied to 2.6
ArgoNavis
Huh. Just read that entire saga, as well as the one you linked to. I must say, though, our discussion from this morning notwithstanding, I do believe that "(from the film BLAH)" is more clear. An AR would be better from the data management perspective, but only if MB can clearly present the info.
Nyght
Yeah I know.. just wanted to let you know what you started...
Nyght snicers
ArgoNavis
However, "(from BLAH)" isn't clear, especially for foreigners, and there is the whole data loss thing.
(to me)
Yes. I deserve to be flayed for my questions. There are just so many cans of worms layin' about.
Nyght
If we did movies, as well as discs, then an AR could be done.
but, if you can't find the song on the soundtrack, where else do you look?
nikki_ personally would have removed all the film details and put all of it in the annotation
soundtrack=score
ArgoNavis
nikki_: Thank you. I can't think of why, either, I just thought I would do as much info gathering before I try to diddle with the install.
Nyght
I did Nikki
nikki_
well, it's hardware stuff mostly affected by kernels, isn't it?
Nyght: I meant even the (from ...) bit
but I don't deal with albums like that very often :)
Nyght
Ah... hadn't thought about doing crib notes for the whole album in the annotation. Then again I would do symbols and make it like an edited book if I was doing it that way
cliff notes too
nikki_
if we had track annotations we could put stuff like that in those
and stuff like exact locations of live tracks
Nyght
That was what I had looked for, track anotations
ArgoNavis
nikki_: Usually, yes. Although sometimes new capabilities are exposed... say filesystem capabilities... and then some software starts using the new stuff. But you're right, it's probably not likely. I'll let you know. ;-)
nikki_ grins
nikki_ probably still has a 2.4 install, but she ain't rebooting 'til that CD/DVD drive gets here ;)
nechto13
all cans of worms should be avoided if possible and be addressed only if they touch on major issues. am/pm and the removal of the From Film bit aren't major issues
Nyght
Why you avoiding rebooting Nikki?
nechto13
i said my piece, my brain is fried :) i have to go to sleep , good night
nikki_
because I swear something breaks every time I do
nechto13
i'll be back later though
nikki_
I think it's because I don't reboot very often, yet still update my software
Nyght
Good night nechto13, I wasn't really trying to open up cans of worms. Though I did realize the film one might touch on the debate in mailing list
nikki_
so the next time I reboot, I've practically upgraded the entire system
ArgoNavis
GN, necto13...
nikki_
plus I have all my windows how I want them
if I close all my programs and shut down, I'll have to spend a while getting back how I was!
ArgoNavis
Nyght: Last time I rebooted one of my servers, it wouldn't come up again. After some brain tissue scarring, it turns out that a load of caps were tubed on the mobo. I am now recapping yet another one. Sigh.
Nyght
That makes sense Nikki, was just curious. I'm about to do my second ever Linux install in probably a week.
lost but I imagine I'll understand eventually.
nikki_ grins
nikki_
I dived in the deep end one day and nuked windows in favour of mandrake
my biggest worry was whether I'd be able to get online ;)
ArgoNavis
You have guts.
nikki_ grins
nikki_
I think what helped me most was not expecting it to work like windows
hehe, took me ages to find the preference in the control panel for how the mouse worked though, the scrolly wheel had never worked in windows so I didn't expect it to in linux (in fact, I didn't know what it was)
then one day, I changed it and my life was transformed! :o
Nyght
Nikki, if I didn't use this machine for work that pays me, I would do the same. :D
ArgoNavis
You have no idea how much we share that particular page. My wheel has transformed my life. I'm a better person because of it.
nikki_
my mum has switched back to using an old-fashioned two button ball mouse
using her computer fills me with rage!
Nyght
/.me loves my track balls wheel
nikki_
I can't go down! I can't go up! aaaaargh! :)
ArgoNavis
Ezekiel may have seen a wheel inna wheel (why in the middle of the air), but I just see a while in my mouse, and my life is complete.
Nyght
I had a mouse with two wheels once, it was really nice, cause you had up and down and left to right if that's what you chose to do.
ArgoNavis
I gotta get my fingers checked. Why -> way, While -> wheel. Sheesh.
nikki_
I've used various other mice, but I'm quite content with two buttons and a clickable scrolly wheel
Nyght
Mine as well has a single button for back and forth nav on the web. I'm not for a ton of dodads but, those are very handy indeed.
ArgoNavis
Nyght does remind me, though, that there are new wheel mice out there where the entire plane of the wheel tilts left-and-right. I could learn to like that, I think.
nikki_
MS ones can do that
I don't like them though now, they changed the wheel
Nyght
I think you could. though I'll wait until Logitech comes out with it. I'm spoiled to their trackballs and their customer service!
nikki_
it no longer has ridges and no longer clicks
Nyght
ick!
nikki_
so I'm gonna have to find a new perfect mouse when this one dies :(
I really like the older MS ones too
ArgoNavis
I like the ridges, but I like the smooth low-detent feel... not so much into the hard click-click as it rolls.
nikki_
my clicks don't feel hard, but I can move it down one click, with the newer MS ones I didn't feel anything
so it was really hard to judge just how far you've scrolled
it felt horrible :o
I guess it's like keyboards: I like to be able to feel that I've pressed a key
Yep, the logitech doesn't have those ridges, but you can feel it. The thing I like about it is it's got a five year warranty and if it goes out, they send you the new one without any true difficulties, within like two days you're back to servicable with what you've grown accustomed to.
I don't like the feel of the wheels without ridges, I'm not sure why
Nyght
probably because you've gotten accustomed to it.
ArgoNavis
Nyght, you're sure involved in a lotta Worm Cans lately.
nikki_
I don't think it's that, I never really have liked the feel of them
Nyght
What else?
Nyght blinks
nikki_ ponders
nikki_
maybe it's the stuff they're made of
Nyght
Hmm... no clue then Nikki, that is strange. I didn't like the feel of the grippies myself, but, figured you guaged something by the feel of how it moved beneath your fingers. Sorta like, artwork editing or something. (had a toggle I used to use when doing artwork, hard to explain but you knew one pixel when you moved it a certain way.)
a harder material instead of the rubber?
nikki_ is perhaps just strange to have her toes curl by the feel of smooth wheels ;)
nikki_
yeah, I guess so
Nyght
LOL
ArgoNavis: what is the next can of worms I opened?
Coeus joined the channel
ArgoNavis
Just teasing. I was referring to the mouse discussion. ;-)
Nyght
Oh, okay.. I prefer to see them before they get out of control than to be covered in slimy worms after the fact and stunned. :D
well, I got nothing truly done on MB.. and I can't kick my mind into working for either votes or mods.. so.. I'm running away from my computer now.
nikki_ is still editing an artist's discography
Night Nikki and ArgoNavis rest well when you do go.
Nyght has left the channel

should hopefully be able to get someone to do it tonight
Coeus
so youre saying i can do a make install clean tonight?
DraX
Coeus: assuming a committer picks it up for me, there will be audio/py-musicbrainz2 tonight
Coeus
woot, thanks DraX
DraX
Coeus: we've been doing a lot of musicbrainz related work lately
ehaupt and i did libtunepimp update/py-libtunepimp impot
and someone else did picard import
and now i've done py-libtunepimp
and i did libofa
err
py-musicbrainz2
Coeus
nice...thx to all, will have to use picard more on my bsd machine
DraX
i'm hpoing to do a picard-devel soon
Coeus
oh i see you have to get the source seperate...oh well minor issue
