        Yeah.
      • 2006-05-01 12128, 2006

      • pbryan
I'm thinking of a nice enhancement: add album prompts for ARs such as Amazon, Discogs, Wikipedia.
      • 2006-05-01 12130, 2006

      • teleGUISE
wow they actually added track times to 1 of the releases... though they decided to change 1 track back to ?:??
      • 2006-05-01 12136, 2006

      • teleGUISE
pbryan: it's nice to dream :) ... not meaning it's not something that could be done but getting people to follow it would be the miracle
      • 2006-05-01 12117, 2006

      • teleGUISE
we have trouble getting them to add track times as you can see now ;)-
      • 2006-05-01 12123, 2006

      • pbryan
Well, it's almost getting to the point where if there aren't ARs to reference, it should be difficult to get added.
      • 2006-05-01 12127, 2006

      • pbryan
        Heh.
      • 2006-05-01 12119, 2006

      • pbryan
teleGUISE: I suspect the revert to ?:?? was a correction, and the modder didn't know how to delete own mod.
      • 2006-05-01 12118, 2006

      • teleGUISE
well he did just start today .. so can't be to hard on them... for that.. but requesting proof is surely within reason
      • 2006-05-01 12112, 2006

      • pbryan
Alright. I remember being a beginner, like it was yesterday.
      • 2006-05-01 12139, 2006

      • teleGUISE
i think the problem is too many people think this is like a freedb but with tagging capability
      • 2006-05-01 12157, 2006

      • Nyght
teleGUISE: would you look at this and tell me if this is a non album, or a single track bootleg? http://musicbrainz.org/showmod.html?modid=4715900
      • 2006-05-01 12135, 2006

      • teleGUISE
ooh look a torrent release, a p2p version of so & so... look a bunch of tracks hiding on my hard drive.. these all must be labeled so off the MB database they go
      • 2006-05-01 12114, 2006

      • teleGUISE
Nyght: mentioned that earlier.. its a single track..
      • 2006-05-01 12132, 2006

      • Nyght
teleGUISE: why go to the trouble? It would be more work to put them in the db and then tag them than it would be to tag them yourself in the beginning?
      • 2006-05-01 12135, 2006

      • pbryan
        Oooh, rhyming?
      • 2006-05-01 12103, 2006

      • teleGUISE
wait i iz confoozeled.. i thought that was pbryan asking.. and nyght i thought you showed me that earlier
      • 2006-05-01 12111, 2006

      • Nyght
yeah I know.. I obviously didn't explain it well enough.. and now I'm confused.
      • 2006-05-01 12150, 2006

      • pbryan
        Now so am I.
      • 2006-05-01 12156, 2006

      • Nyght
I did.... and mo's question has me wondering once more if it should be a bootleg.. since it is technically a bootleg (non band released) but... they recognize it's out there. What's the difference between a bootleg and a non album track in this instance.
      • 2006-05-01 12144, 2006

      • teleGUISE
so how many people have this like 12? ;)
      • 2006-05-01 12111, 2006

      • Nyght
LOL um... it went on kazaa... (so Sean says) so I'm imagining a lot more than that.
      • 2006-05-01 12102, 2006

      • Nyght
it's not where I got it.. :shrugs: but that's where a lot of fans did.
      • 2006-05-01 12105, 2006

      • teleGUISE
oh i misread that... i saw it say they didnt release it on the web.. and didnt notice the but know about it
      • 2006-05-01 12152, 2006

      • teleGUISE
well if you didnt get it from there then you must have been the bootlegger that taped it.. so which one are you, huh! ;)
      • 2006-05-01 12156, 2006

      • Nyght
The band didn't release it (that makes it bootleg) but, the band knows about it (actually I got it from a band member... but, anyhoo..) does that make it non album track, or a single track bootleg?
      • 2006-05-01 12110, 2006

      • Nyght
        :P
      • 2006-05-01 12129, 2006

      • Nyght
I did it from neither thank you very much! (I didn't hang with LAM in the early days.)
      • 2006-05-01 12141, 2006

      • teleGUISE
        i think we are worrying to deeply about it... :{
      • 2006-05-01 12116, 2006

      • Nyght
        okay..
      • 2006-05-01 12155, 2006

      • Nyght
doen't much matter, save that it would answer a lot of questions about the rest of the odd tracks I have.
      • 2006-05-01 12113, 2006

      • teleGUISE
i think [nat] is fine.. is someone going to complain and say it should be titled 199x-xx-xx: Blah Blah, Blah, USA
      • 2006-05-01 12144, 2006

      • Nyght
        LOL I hope not!
      • 2006-05-01 12143, 2006

      • teleGUISE
i guess the difference is most of that odd stuff like that i have.. i dont even bother adding to MB cuz to me it's not worth it..
      • 2006-05-01 12147, 2006

      • Nyght
        That's why I don't post the m'era luna I have.. cause I don't know the date.
      • 2006-05-01 12122, 2006

      • Nyght
well like the switchback remixes I know they travel widely among the klayton fans. That would be an add I could easily see as being "worth it"
      • 2006-05-01 12128, 2006

      • nechto13
i think this would be a NAT. Nyght: what's the alternative? bootleg single?
      • 2006-05-01 12135, 2006

      • Nyght
carfax abbey isn't really big enough, nor Autumn's descent.
      • 2006-05-01 12148, 2006

      • Nyght
nechto13: that was sorta my thinking

      • Nyght wrinkles nose
      • 2006-05-01 12106, 2006

      • Nyght

      • teleGUISE
anything but a nat requires some type of title and for what to say this is the only track from a bunch that night
      • 2006-05-01 12120, 2006

      • Nyght

      • 2006-05-01 12119, 2006

      • Nyght
again, that's why I was asking.. because as a bootleg it's not worth it, but as a NAT, I can see someone else having it and utilizing it.
      • 2006-05-01 12114, 2006

      • Nyght
more often than not I ask questions not "for something" I am putting up, but more for something I am thinking about putting up.
      • 2006-05-01 12138, 2006

      • Nyght
Like the remix question... back a while ago. Wasn't for that track at all, but for if the Symbiont tracks ever DO get released on disc.
      • 2006-05-01 12146, 2006

      • nechto13
i've never seen a bootleg single in MB. my mischievous side kind of wants to, but my reasonable side is aftraid of the precedent it might set for other bootleg tracks that infest the dark corners of kazaa world

      • 2006-05-01 12130, 2006

      • Nyght
agree there nechto13, I prefer a bootleg to be as complete as possible,.

well i can see sourcing odd tracks and remixes ... p2p is good for that since you typically cant find or buy many of them

That's what I utilized it for a time for... then I ended up getting files that I had done "semi professionally" intermingled in my shares, some pictures got out that I didn't have permission to share and that was the end of that.

is there a guideline which says that first name of an artist legal name should be umm first. i'm looking through http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/ArtistName and can't find it there
      • 2006-05-01 12145, 2006

      • MartinRudat
I shouldn't think so... I'd assumed that the artists name is as they would write it, and the sortname is as how it should be sorted... which doesn't sound too confusing to me...

Nyght: i'm staying away from them i'm tempted to vote no on all of them and ask to provide proof without doing the research

MartinRudat: enirely possible that there isn't but it's my voting policy if someone is adding something that looks fishy, maybe i should put it in my profile. i actually reseach most of the stuff i vote on

I will usually ask, without a response I will go and vote no of course, if I can't find something on it myself.. and I've spent upwards of a half an hour to an hour looking for things.. so, more often than not I will ask for proof on something I'm unsure about.
      • 2006-05-01 12155, 2006

      • MartinRudat probably should start voting more... but to do it well is lots of work...

Martin it is a lot of work. But, we sorta of locally decided (a few of the automoderators and a few non automoderators ) that the add artists since they're a step away from being automodded in are pretty easy to vote yes on all but the obvious ones.. (like the other day we had "beatles" attempted to be added)
      • 2006-05-01 12148, 2006

      • Nyght
so relative quick yeses there would help a lot.. and it's not too time consuming. That and I try to vote on the removals and moving since that's something automoderators have to have voted on anyways.
