luks: thanks. i clicked 'tell a friend' in itunes and got the link trhough email.
luks
ah
warp
so that id is used as catalog id?
luks
I think it's the best info we have
warp nods.
Jugdish
sounds good to me
srotta
I don't like it.
How likely is it for those IDs to stay the same for, say, half a year?-)
luks
why would they change them?
srotta
Because they haveno reason not to?
luks
stable IDs = more money
and isn't more money the reason for running itunes store? :)
srotta
Stable IDs = not an issue, if they decide to "develop" their shop further.
That's just a fact, links rot.
And if the ID is not exactly advertised, they have no reason to keep them if they change the architecture, or just for the heck of it.
luks
they are using the ID to link to their store
if they change it, they break many sites linking to them
which mean people won't be able to find albums and thus won't buy them
apple would go against itself
it's the same as with amazon, they have no reason to change asins
srotta
Which wouldn't be exactly the first time.

But yeah, I probably won't be buying anything from them in near future, and I probably won't go checking those IDs either. I just don't like the idea of using a part of an URL, if it's not documented to stay the same.
warp buys more itunes exclusives :(

luks: what happens if you try to merge an album into another album with a different number of tracks?
aCiD2
Uhh... if change track numbers, does the order of the tracks not update?
luks
aCiD2: it does
Jugdish
aCiD2: the track change edit has to get applied for it show up
aCiD2
Good
It hasn't in the preview, just checking
luks
Jugdish: the extra tracks will be moved to the other album
Freso: the "[untitled]" track is final track on the other release
luks
Freso: do realize he is going to merge the releases?
er, +you
the other option is to add 17 "silence" tracks
Freso
luks: Yes, but that means that I'll just have to find that merge and vote no there too. :)
luks
huh?
Freso
luks: Read my note.
luks
Freso: merging two unrelated tracks is wrong, renamed or not
Freso
luks: If they're not the same, neither are the releases.
Jugdish
Freso: I understand neither of the 2 notes you added there
luks
Freso: the real release has 17 silence tracks
somebody added it without them, because AMG doesn't list them
are you saying the bogus release should be kept?
Freso
luks: No, I just hadn't heard the magic words "bogus release" before now.
luks
well, the first note has a link to it...
hehe
AMG actually does list them
Freso
luks: No. The first note has a link to another release, which might as well be the bogus release from where I'm sitting. Nowhere is it stated that one release or the other is non-existant.
Jugdish
but torrent sites wouldn't include the silence tracks and that's probably where the person who added the "bogus release" got their copy since they didn't add a DiscID to it
Freso: you're saying that this artist released to physical copies of a CD, one with 17 silence tracks and one without? does that really seem more logical than somebody obtaining their copy online with no silence tracks, and another person obtaining the actual CD with the silence tracks?
Freso
Jugdish: Unfortunately, I've found that humans are not (always) logical. :)
ajh
There's no reason at all the keep the silence tracks.
luks
ajh: there is
Freso
ajh: Huh?
ajh
No, you compensate for the fact they could or could-not actually be there as files.
luks
Jugdish: can you cancel the remove track edit? I'll add the silence tracks and then it can be merged
