I had a lot of old original tagger files, where one release had split into 4 or 5 versions of the same release,

hence all the extra [] info I include

makes it easy to clean those back up

hmm, i like how you've got the date in there too

yeah - originally I just used %date%, but it gets messy, cause you have a lot of incomplete dates

that string cuts it down to either just [year] or nothing, which is a lot cleaner

so i your music folder, you end with just album names, instead of artist - album?

well, you get one of three results:

if it's a soundtrack, you get this: \Soundtracks\[official] [1951] Alice in Wonderland

if it's not, and it has a release date, you get this: \Alice in Chains\[album] [official] [1992] Dirt

otherwise you get this: \Alice in Chains\[single] [official] Angry Chair

oh, there's a \Music\ behind the 2 later examples

it then would go to \Classical\Composer\(then however I decide to do it from here)

I just wish MB supported Old Time Radio - for the moment, I use Otter for OTR, and it goes into \OTR\

i have a Thecus N5200B, works very well

yeah, I have part of mine on RAID5, but these were new drives, moved off some drives I didn;t trust, trashed the old drives

the new 2 drives died within 2 months of purchase :(

the no proof links is easy, that's just too much work when import/add lots... the edits usually go through anyway.

i usually don't add proof links until i'm asked to.

yes, the voters vs editors is a problem.

i enabled inline votes to vote a little bit more on my subscribed artists.

but in general i don't vote much either.

I myself am guilty... I first registerd in 2005. I added a bunch of releases, no attention to styleguides, and had a bunch of votes go against me (evern though some actually, wierdly enough, match with current guidelines).

Then I came back in 2006, same thing.

This time, I got interested in what was going on behind the tagger, and I started to try to figure things out.

Problem is, it's too easy to add a release with no clue of how things work, then everyone else ends up having to clean up the mess, esp when they slip through because < 3 votes.

I mean, looking at the open English add releases only, there werr 1650 of them, 100+ expiring tomorrow with 1 or 0 votes on any...

and a lot of them look... off.

i would assume most are more or less ok (but incomplete), there's not _that_ much you can fuck up on a normal english tracklisting :)

no guess case, all lowercase, freedb imports with no status or script set and no proof, all uppercase imports, stuff using torrent sites as "proof", etc

I found when I joined I voted plenty the first few weeks, then stopped entirely because I was too darn sick of these hundreds of vote requests every day

The other string I end up using a lot is "Is there a reason we're ignoring the capitalization style guidelines on this release? If not, please remmeber to use guess case."

more clumping of edits would help, but I imagine that's not easy to implement on the db side

I just fixed a bunch of VA releases today where someone randomly chose the first "Nirvana" in the list, rather than look to figure which was right

so you had 60's compilations with a track attrib'd to a 90's grunge band

every one got in with 1 yes vote

I just wonder, as much as we all argue over the fine points, and as much as we all concentrate on our own pet projects (jazz, classical, Nirvana, what have you)
