What's the style for bar-codes? This box has three different spacings onnit.
      • FauxFaux guesses the spacing isn't significant to the readers or for working out what type of bar code it is?
      • Aagh, also, the edit lies, the data it thinks it's changing from is a cancelled edit.
      • BrianFreud
barcode readers just see the numbers, the spaces and hyphens are to make the long number human readable
      • FauxFaux
I just thought it was strange that it's printed three different ways, some places seem to imply that the barcode is the catalogue number, too.
      • BrianFreud
(actually, they see the lines, not the numbers, but you know what I mean) :)
      • some companies have started doing that
      • I've seen it on BMG.au and Sony releases - UPC (without the checkdigit) as cat #
      • HairMetalAddict has quit
      • FauxFaux
        How rude. :)
      • SenRepus
        of who?
      • BrianFreud
        he quit on us! :P
      • FauxFaux
The labels, how hard is maintaining "HK{release number}", like hed kandi do?

        hehe

      • ;)
      • FauxFaux
        Aaaaaagh.
      • It's even more silly than my foobar strings, which is impressive. :p (http://blog.prelode.com/?p=48)
      • BrianFreud
        lol
      • mmm, alternate user guide...
      • Russss
FauxFaux: I want a relational filesystem.
      • FauxFaux
Heh, I'm moving more towards the "don't care what it's like on disk" way at the moment. :)
      • BrianFreud
FauxFaux: that pic makes it look like you get different behaviour than I...

      • You can select multiple clusters, hit lookup, and eachopen a different tab?
      • FauxFaux
        That was oldpicard.
      • BrianFreud
        oh
      • yeah, the one feature I'd missed from OldPicard...
      • FauxFaux
The plugins menu shows when you right-click multiple releases, get cracking. :p

      • Joan_W
        I missed out afternoon
      • FauxFaux doesn't like asking for vote bombs, but it's really simple, two asins, picard is picking the wrong one.. http://musicbrainz.org/show/edit/?editid=7057221
      • BrianFreud
FauxFaux Thought about it actually... don't know enougt python to do t, but it does seem you could have some kind of multiple cluster look
      • ...loop
      • FauxFaux
I think the open-in-browser stuff is broken still, but I'll have to prove that before complaining. :p
      • BrianFreud
it works - all my search plugins do it... uses webbrowser2.open(url)
      • I just don't think the ExpansionPoint supports multiple clusters tet. I'd have to reread that code to check
      • FauxFaux
It seems to mysteriously overwrite my tabs here, probably not entirely picard's fault.
      • BrianFreud
overwrite as in open in same tab?
      • FauxFaux
Yeah, even though it's off by default in the browser (Oooopera).
      • BrianFreud double checks... remembers seeing a setting for that
      • In PicardQt? Curious, I can't see it.
      • BrianFreud
hmm, yeah, don't see it in settngs
      • I've been digging through the source though, so that might be where I saw it
      • no clue
      • FauxFaux
      • BrianFreud
yeah, somehow AZN seems to have just royally screwed up any release having anything to do with France :P
      • FauxFaux
        Indeed. :p
      • It's marked as an import from a french label on amazon.fr too, as expected.

most likely brian, they have no idea
      • BrianFreud
        true enough
      • Got a kick out of the latest one though - he gave 4 verification sites... 3 were freedb data, and the 4th was an mp3 site using freedb data to "make" releases
      • :p
      • cooperaa queues up some tunes, and gets ready for a voting spree!
      • cooperaa
        aww haha
      • FauxFaux
Voting is nowhere near as fun as editing, I don't udnerstand you crazy people. :P
      • cooperaa
        FauxFaux: of course not :)
      • BrianFreud
        lol
      • cooperaa
but voting gives me stuff to edit!
      • BrianFreud
agreed... and very true cooperaa :)
      • cooperaa
all these people leave the easy work for me - guess all and relating proof urls :D
      • BrianFreud
plus, I'd rather waste some time keeping crud out, then have to fight to get rid of it later :D
      • cooperaa
        heh
      • plus plus: its voting that brings attention to stuff in artists I'm subscribed to that is messy or incomplete - otherwise I'd never find out because my albums are tagged
      • BrianFreud
        lol
      • FauxFaux prefers reactive to actually putting effort in.
      • me wishes he a tt problem... WAY too many releases nt in the datase
      • argh, batteries dying AGAIN??? just changed them last night! :P
      • cooperaa
FauxFaux: what I do is totally reactive :) I don't go looking for edits, they come right onto my lap when people do weird stuff
      • FauxFaux
It doesn't matter how much stuff there is in the database, so long as the stuff you won is okay. :p
      • BrianFreud
        ok, yet more new batteries...
      • cooperaa
example of fun voting: Liff's edits :)
      • BrianFreud
lol - fun now that we have Jug's script :P
      • was a pain before, lol
      • cooperaa
        yup
      • BrianFreud
same for gioele, he's fast catching up to liff
      • FauxFaux doesn't want to know? :p
      • speaks Italian.. he's going through fixing every Italian release
      • cooperaa
many many pages of the same AR to multiple discs of the same release
      • FauxFaux
        :/
      • BrianFreud
yeah, I even asked liff how he's doing it
      • I noticed he takes all of 5 seconds between AR edits
      • cooperaa
you may have not noticed because of the clutter in your inbox but I also commented on that edit saying "ya, I wanna know too!"
      • BrianFreud
        lol
      • as for me, I just look through the inline stuff, and my scan of the new adds - anything past that, it's me seeing something SO wrong on an add edit, I check to see what else the newbie is up to
      • cooperaa: By the way... it was suggested to me that, instead of changing status on the pre-release adds, instead change the DQ?
      • cooperaa
        ya I don't like that
      • BrianFreud
lol... /me has actually convice people on changing status edits, can't just do them
      • cooperaa
it is a waste of time, because by the time the edit to lower DQ passes, the release will be official and we'll have to change it back to default
      • it is just unproductive
      • BrianFreud
well, but that's true for either type of edit for a non-auto-editor
      • cooperaa
we should be only raising quality
      • no, auto-editors cannot change DQ automatically
      • BrianFreud
right - but status? (honestly, not sure if that's on the can be autoedited list or not...)
      • cooperaa
        oh okay
      • um status "appears" updated right away but yes, an edit will be open for voting
      • BrianFreud
for me, either needs an edit. And the DQ ones are easier to defend than the status ones
      • cooperaa
BUT if we made it part of the guideline to enter "forthcoming" releases as bootlegs until they are official we could quote that and it would be entered at add time
      • we cannot change quality at add time
      • BrianFreud
        right
      • cooperaa
but what use is LowQ anyways?
      • BrianFreud
but you know the only people really normally adding these before release day are also the same ones who won't read the guidelines anyhow
      • cooperaa
        (other than for forthcoming releases)
      • (that's not true, I add them a lot :D )
      • BrianFreud
        lol
      • cooperaa
        well, a lot = sometimes
      • BrianFreud
things tha make you go hmmmm... ;)
      • cooperaa
:) I don't think there's anything wrong with them... the recordings exist, many on actual CDs that people have
      • BrianFreud
well, you managed to convice me they ought not to be just voted down for not being released yet
      • cooperaa
point in case: my friend gets promos from the radio station all the time... he had Trivium's crusade 2-3 weeks early and it ended up being the same tracklist as the official
      • case in point?
      • dammit
      • BrianFreud
but I think something needs to be set on them, else they get mixed in and things get confusing
      • cooperaa
        I agree
      • BrianFreud
case in point: Black Light Burns' new album
      • the advance went around a month before release
      • tracklist was correct, but what noone seems to have noticed is that track 5 just ends 30 seconds in
      • obviously not a correct time for the actual release.
      • that's a simple fix. But I also have seen some where we have 4 or 5 of the same advance, each different in tracklist based on the torrent it came from
      • makes for a "BigMess" once the thing actually comes out
      • cooperaa
well 4 or 5 tracklists should never happen
      • BrianFreud
lol... one band recently actually had 10 different versions of the advance cut and shipped
      • cooperaa eats his words
      • post-release, figuring out which are which and what is what is a mess there :P
      • I figure the lower DQ, with the 4 day instead of 14 days edit wait
      • it's easier to clean up after, then set back to normal
      • cooperaa
ugh I don't want to go backwards, it seems so... counterproductive
      • everything should be entered LQ and then raised up
      • BrianFreud agrees 10000000%
