T.Rex is a performance name for Marc Bolan. Marc Bolan composes several tracks. T.Rex plays them, later, for a soundtrack. Soundtrack style would normally go with composer, unless it's a previously released track, as these are. But when the composer and the performer are two names for the same person, would that still hold true?

Hm, I need a tag editor that can extract cover art from mp3s, and it should do it on a large amount of mp3, suggestions?
luks would do it with 5 or so lines of python code...
tru
extract?
yeah, a bit of mutagen should fix that for you.

luks: I'm not a coder.
luks
what OS are you using?
(I'm a bit bored, so I could hack something for you)

Windows.

Hi! I'm a little confused about this Picard proggie - does it or does it not calculate puid's?
Kerensky97
It calculates a fingerprint to match to the MusicIP PUIDs to be most accurate.
naugas
Ok, thanks! What is it it sends to musicbrainz then? Nearest match to an existing puid?
luks
puid<->trackid matches
naugas
just statistics?
luks
no, those are used for PUID lookups
PUID on it's own doesn't tell you anything about the track
Kerensky97
If the Picard fingerprint matches a MusicIP PUID and you choose "save PUIDs" it will send the info to Musicbrainz that that MusicIP PUID belongs to that track.
So does MusicDNS have a map of fingerprints to PUIDs, or are they generated every time?
luks
they have a database of PUIDs
probably not mapped directly to fingerprints, but to their more complete music analysis
aCiD2
Right, makes sense
luks
the difference between TRMs is that the server adds new TRMs based on fingerprint lookups if it's not already in the database
with MusicDNS you need to use special MusicIP tools for that, lookups are read-only
aCiD2
So when I do the acoustic analysis in Picard and it finds a match, it only does that because someone has ran the track through genpuid/the mixer before hand?
luks
yes
aCiD2
Neat, that service is more popular than I thought then
srotta
I've sometimes wondered about that, when the system finds a PUID for every track in an album except the biggest hit.
8)
It's sort of illogical.
aCiD2
hehe
luks: In that case, I have a question... with the fingerprinting I read somewhere than it has to be at least 30 seconds, is this correct?
luks
that's for TRM
aCiD2
I see
luks
libofa needs 130 seconds
srotta
Oh?
luks
or 135, I'm not sure right now
aCiD2
Cause I was going to have a play around one day at a projcet where you give it a DJ mix, and it would attempt to look up the tracks (then I thought it probably won't work, because the tracks are pitched up)
luks
aCiD2: musicdns is not really a good tool for that
it's oriented on files, not "streams"
aCiD2
mmm
Kerensky97
I had two tracks, on that was 4 minutes, one that was 8. The 8 minute tracks was the exact same for the first 4 minutes, it just added more stuff to the end. The system thought they were the same.
luks
Kerensky97: I'd expect that to be an user error
somebody submitted the same PUID to both tracks
Kerensky97
not the picard system, MusicIP.
luks
musicdns uses track duration to differentiate between puids
ah

They came up in the duplicate track list.

I like them too, although I'm not too fond of adding them.

ruaok: user entered data usually, although this one even had a buy ticket link, so perhaps last.fm has started to arrange stuff with the national ticket services of certain countries.
