ok my mistake, it needs to "save" the album to copy the tags across

different shades of pink indicate how much of a match was found

green is the tags on the file and/or the filename match the tags in musicbrainz, red/pink means they don't match that well, to warn you to doublecheck that you're tagging the right files with the right info.

if you got a song, that you don't know what album its from. whats the best tactic? just pick one iwth the closest duration in any album?

is it possible to get picard to get the cover art? in the right view of albums. I select the album but the bottom right icon says "no image available" yet I see the cover album picture in hte loopup?

hmm its only writting out id3v1 tags, does that matter, should I include both? I see the "write id3v2 version 2.3 tags(2.4 is default)" shoudl I click this to get both tags? what does the (2.4 is default) mean? is it writting 2.3 or 2.4?

conan: picard won't write id3v1 tags, by default it will onyl write id3v2.4, if you check this box it will also write id3v2.3

hmm thats I thought, so I left it unchecked and looking in another tagger it its shown id3v1. although that is ticked too. is it one or the other? so basically I should leave both untagged to get id3v2.4?

conan: and I don't know why it doesn't show the cover art there :/ about your song: if analysing it to do a fingerprint match doesn't lead to a result and you really don't know the album, well then choose the best match you can get

it's long ago that I looked for one but I could never find a reasonable one :) even foobar didn't display what I needed

looking at my settings I write id3v1 for backwards compatibility and id3v2.3 instead id3v2.4 because itunes didn't understand the latter I think

I don't know why it doesn't display the cover art there, but even when it does, picard won't write that into the file by default because of legal reasons

conan: i prefer to not have id3v1 at all. i had some broken tools which preferred them over id3v2 for some reason. i guess the tools have been fixed now, but i'd still rather not have id3v1 :)
