I think a lot of our problems could be solved by having song lists for each artist
2008-02-02 03325, 2008

correction: entering would be the least problem. Bringing it into CSG and adding ARs is the actual problems

cooperaa: if we ever get box set entities, I could see linking them that way. Right now, I do it like I think you do, with annotation interlinks. But I find your 1a exception wierd
pronik: don't forget to add the operas to the composer's CSGStandard page ;)
2008-02-02 03337, 2008

2008-02-02 03344, 2008
brianfreud
agreed :D
2008-02-02 03305, 2008
brianfreud is thinking about starting the wiki.musicbrainz.org/CSGStandard page today :P
2008-02-02 03316, 2008
cooperaa
haha I almost did that this morning
2008-02-02 03339, 2008
cooperaa
but I'm not a very good wiki-formatter
2008-02-02 03343, 2008
cooperaa
so I left it for someone else
2008-02-02 03345, 2008

Figured just a list of classical composers, broken by who does or doesn’t get affected by CSG, with links to each composer’s list page
2008-02-02 03330, 2008

the amount of work this whole stuff involves is just crazy

2008-02-02 03339, 2008

brianfreud: should you be coding again, I'd wish an Opera tool. Define characters, singers and "global" information and then add CDs one after another with checkboxes for the characters singing

brianfreud
1) TA is *always* the composer, no matter what.
2008-02-02 03358, 2008
brianfreud
2) RA for VA is always VA.
2008-02-02 03305, 2008
cooperaa
1) yes definitely
2008-02-02 03310, 2008
cooperaa
2) sure ya
2008-02-02 03314, 2008
brianfreud
3) RA for SA is always that SA, even if it’s a box.
2008-02-02 03324, 2008
cooperaa
ooo
2008-02-02 03358, 2008
brianfreud
3a) Corallary to 3, annotation interlinks to each release in the box are highly preferred, but only required if the box is VA with SA indiv. CDs
2008-02-02 03306, 2008
cooperaa
okay, think in the future when we have real "release" pages with disc sections...
2008-02-02 03326, 2008
cooperaa
we're going to have to set the RA to be VA and the DiscArtist (if we even decide that's significant to the SA)
2008-02-02 03303, 2008
cooperaa
...messed up my parentheses there
2008-02-02 03311, 2008
brianfreud
well, in a day when we have BoxSets, RA for the BoxSet = VA, but the individual discs can be SA within that VA box
2008-02-02 03327, 2008
pronik
track artist is actually totally obsolete -- it's either a composer or a performer
2008-02-02 03341, 2008
brianfreud
but so long as you leave the TAs alone, I’m ok with it. (It’s actually what I thought we were already doing anyhow)
2008-02-02 03354, 2008
brianfreud
I thought you were trying to make the *TAs* the performers
2008-02-02 03310, 2008
cooperaa
CRAS says only when the release contains tracks by multiple composers
2008-02-02 03315, 2008

2008-02-02 03301, 2008

by the way, on your opera script, that’s a lot like what I’d like to eventually see for generic work entries...
2008-02-02 03308, 2008

Create a Generic Work listing, then assign generic ARs for it - so you add the release by linking each track to a work, then pull up a “fill in the blanks” AR view, and just fill in the various blank ARs
2008-02-02 03323, 2008
brianfreud
lol, yeah. If you can live with 1-3+3a, I’m cool with it. The moment anyone wants to reassign away the TAs, /me gets out the veto pen :D

cooperaa sends out a clarification note on the ML
2008-02-02 03303, 2008

I think it’s much simpler then, than your note made it seem - only question would be, what constitutes a single performer?
2008-02-02 03337, 2008
cooperaa
that's why I tried to give some pointers for determining that
2008-02-02 03342, 2008

brianfreud: how would you like a "musicbrainz network", i.e. several sites maintaining some particular information (classical metadata / lyrics / wikipedia linking / etc) which would sync their data to MB? You could make your script to a complete site this way ;)

I don't think it makes sense to use Orchestra... but maybe Orchestra feat conductor
2008-02-02 03336, 2008
brianfreud
I wouldn’t want that cooperaa
2008-02-02 03344, 2008

2008-02-02 03356, 2008

I’d much rather we finally add the ability to link a composer directly to an orchestra
2008-02-02 03311, 2008

not composer = artist-release AR, but composer = artist-artist AR
2008-02-02 03336, 2008

but I mean there is a Picard plugin for moving the (Orch feat cond) to release artist from the release title
2008-02-02 03341, 2008

cooperaa

2008-02-02 03336, 2008

cooperaa, yes, but do we really need to break up, say, the BSO by conductor?
2008-02-02 03349, 2008

brianfreud: no!
2008-02-02 03300, 2008

One BSO entry with the various conductors AR’d to the BSO and the releases properly is enough, I think.

luks, I may be totally clueless, but wouldn’t it simply be a matter of extracting all text strings, changing them in the server code to language lookups to a table, then we can start translating that table to all the various languages?
