If I remove them, should they be added some other way?

Preferably ARs to originals.

And yeah, I'd leave them out.

srotta: OK, you mean that creating an AR from e.g. "Rolling Stone" in this compilation to the original release of the song and by that the release year is apparent?
2008-03-11 07148, 2008
srotta
Yes.
2008-03-11 07113, 2008

Earliest release / remaster of AR, that is.

I see a problem in that these were singles released 60 years ago originally in nearly all cases, do you think I still will find them in MB?

UncleRemus: That's a challenge for sure. Also, finding the exact match between your track and the earliest release of that track can be difficult, even for modern releases.
2008-03-11 07103, 2008
pbryan
Earliest release vs. earliest version -- without the actual collection of original releases, it's near impossible to determine if it's the same release. Track times can help, but if recordings went back 60 years, could be a challenge.

Yes, seems like that to me also. But taking away the year indications from the track title should be correct in any case, right?

Is Duke Ellington & His Orchestra the way to enter such an artist? Or is it Duke Ellington and his Orchestra, or other? I've seen many different ways.

I have one question, If I do install a db mirror will the database be updated automatically when a new song or a new edit is entered in the main musicbrainz database?
2008-03-11 07158, 2008
nikki
there's a script which you can run periodically to install updates
2008-03-11 07106, 2008
nikki
the updates are produced every hour
2008-03-11 07109, 2008
nikki
wait, that sounds wrong
2008-03-11 07115, 2008
nikki
to... apply updates?
2008-03-11 07156, 2008
nikki
to take the changes from the main server and make those changes in your local copy? oh whatever, you get the idea
2008-03-11 07145, 2008
brick_ijigg
so it's a pull mechanism, which retrieves updates only as they are periodically packaged up for distribution?
2008-03-11 07102, 2008
