Currently we have no way of defining multiple language titles, so usually one is picked and that's it. Or the release gets entered multiple times using different languages. Or something else entirely.

Dhraakellian: a tracklisting like that is usually split up in musicbrainz, in that a release only gets one of the translations.

It's mainly a problem of classical music, and I try to steer away from those.

Dhraakellian: multiple languages is intended for a release which has e.g. a few tracktitles in english, a few in dutch, etc..

Dhraakellian
okay. the previous edit cited a capitalization guideline, and I was wanting clarification. I really don't mind no votes in this case
2008-04-18 10954, 2008
Dhraakellian missed the previous edit since he wasn't subscribed to Strauss
"The language attribute (e.g. French) records the language of the release title and track titles, (not the lyrics and not the extra information on the disc sleeve)"

I think the difference comes from whether it's the MB track list or the liner tracklist

thanks for the commentary and such

the MB track list.

MB data is not used only by humans, it's very useful when software queries musicbrainz to have the language attribute match the data it is querying for :)
[07:54] <warp> it's not 'obviously correct', considering i would've voted no :) <-- Why would you have voted no? The NAT is clearly listed at the site, with that title

BrianFreud: he is adding it to a release.

(which doesn't exist, the whole release shouldn't be in MB)
2008-04-18 10942, 2008
BrianFreud
yes, but if you look at the add edits for that 'release', it's simply the entire NAT list - yeah
2008-04-18 10901, 2008
BrianFreud
I wonder if you can merge a release in to NAT? That entire 'release' ought to be NATs
2008-04-18 10915, 2008
warp
BrianFreud: exactly.
2008-04-18 10903, 2008

it used to be at least possible to move NAT releases with URL hacking. so merging an album into the NAT release (which has to exist before of course) might work

and hi there :)

Shepard: just cancelled, sorry, didn't realize you specifically didn't want to be autoeditor

you'll see when brian forwarded my email :)

hmmm, ok, that artist doesn't have an existing NAT, but there's 2 that need adding, let me add one and see if it'll let me merge

hmm.. the problem with merging though is that it would merge the tracks as well. and don't they need to be of the same length?
2008-04-18 10906, 2008
Shepard
I mean number of tracks
2008-04-18 10939, 2008

you can merge ones with different numbers of tracks

yeah, but didn't we decide the server just then drops the higher # tracks?

nikki
but I think it'll only keep the first however many tracks
2008-04-18 10945, 2008
Shepard
and tracks can't be moved either, right?
2008-04-18 10934, 2008
BrianFreud
It looks like, even if we could do it, we'd have to make all the NATs, then try to hack in the merge just to protect puids

track moving would be nice. if just for the track mbids.
I'm starting to think those HUMANWINE edits are all the band members sitting in a room with laptops
2008-04-18 10942, 2008

I thought they said there were only two members

yeah, and it seems they have plenty of those; "M@ McNiss & Holly Brewer. They pull together an ever evolving cast of players including Nathan Greenslit, Antony Metsiou, Brian Carpenter, Jeremy Pilny, Courtenay Vandiver, Ashley Vandiver, Paul Dilley, Brian Viglione, Brian King, Nathan Cohen, Andrew Dole, Patrick Dole, Adam Glasseye, Tim Maher, Drae DuMont, Kaethe Hostetter, Ron Caswell."
