the point of lossless is that you can encode them, not transcode and lose more quality

i just like that it's immediatly apparant that you've got decent quality. a track with an .mp3 suffix can be anything from really crap to pretty decent.

I've found doing sound and ABX tests that you can have a poor quality CD straight from the manufacturer now. I have a highly regarded punk album that people can't hear the difference between WAV and 128k MP3 in an ABX test.

And most had problems with it at 96k
