Why would the Linux tagger not pick up any albums?
      • alastairp
        hmm
      • SeveredCross
I try to use web lookup, and get nothing.
      • alastairp
        SeveredCross: hmm
      • SeveredCross
Rather, I click on an album in the web lookup, but it doesn't translate back to Picard.
      • alastairp
are you clicking the "Tagger" button?
      • you need to launch the musicbrainz site from picard to make it show up
      • SeveredCross
        Yep, did that.
      • It worked on Windows a bit ago, decided to restart to Linux for stability reasons
      • alastairp
        heh
      • hmm, unsure then
      • SeveredCross
        *nods*
      • Haha, now it worked...
      • I opened port 8000 in my router.
      • Don't know why I would have to do that, but I'll take ti.
      • alastairp
hmm, that shouldn't make a difference
      • if you had a firewall in place, then maybe
      • SeveredCross
Nope, unless Ubuntu's turned one on on me.
      • alastairp
        nah, it doesn't have one
      • SeveredCross
Well, it has ufw, which manages iptables, but that's not on.
      • alastairp
        how's your linux-fu?
      • SeveredCross
        Strong.
      • alastairp
can you try and telnet to the picard webserver?
      • telnet localhost 8000, or something
      • SeveredCross
        Sure, give me a sec.\=
      • Er, \= are not supposed to be there.
      • SeveredCross has a bad case of tanglefinger.
      • What should I tell it?
      • alastairp
        no idea :)
      • the fact it connected means that side is OK
      • SeveredCross
        Yeah.
      • alastairp
although, if you said it was working, i'm not sure what the problem is/was
      • SeveredCross
I think it was just a temporary glitch.
      • SeveredCross is working on retagging his library.
      • For some reason, a ton of music lost metadata.
      • With > 5000 songs, lost metadata = bad.
      • alastairp
        yeah :)
      • $ find -type f -name *.mp3|wc -l
      • 24653
      • SeveredCross
        Damn.
      • SeveredCross bows.
      • alastairp
        a little more than 5000 :-P
      • SeveredCross
Your MP3-peenor is much larger than mine.
      • The question begs itself though, how much of it have you listened to at least once? ^__^
      • alastairp
        10%, maybe
      • SeveredCross
        :)
      • navap
        So why the other 90%?
      • SeveredCross
        ^^ The next question.
      • alastairp
        shrug
      • plenty of disk space
      • navap
Thats my argument, disk space doesn't cost much so theres no point deleting stuff you don't like, or limiting the size of ones collection
      • zeno__
eg i have no idea how to do this one http://www.discogs.com/release/933695
      • drsaunde
        $ find -type f -name *.mp3|wc -1
      • 63126
      • SeveredCross
        Christ.
      • Hahahaehaha.
      • Picard just told me it crashed, and then promptly resumed tagging songs.
      • hawke agrees with navap.
      • VxJasonxV
        anyone in here use/using mp3fs?
      • SeveredCross
        Nope. What is it?
      • VxJasonxV
a FUSE filesystem. an on-the-fly transcoder of flac files to mp3
      • (great for burning MP3CDs without making a big todo over converting everything first)
      • hawke
        nice
      • hawke will have to look into it.
      • I expect access is pretty slow though
      • VxJasonxV
that's part of the reason I Access
      • ...
      • I ask*
      • the throughput I get is TERRIBLE
      • the site says it should be a lot better
      • navap
VxJasonxV: Interesting concept..but how is that better then taking your collection and creating mp3s all at once?
      • VxJasonxV
because I don't have to have two copies of everything
      • navap
        Any other reason?
      • What do you use the transcoded mp3s for?
      • inhouseuk has quit
      • VxJasonxV
I can keep/and listen to my FLACs, but have them accessible as mp3s for burning mp3 cds, or what have you
      • navap
Do you use those mp3s on an mp3 player?
      • VxJasonxV
on my cd player that reads mp3 data cds, yes
      • hawke
        lol
      • seems pretty obvious, to me.
      • VxJasonxV
        so, anyways
      • long story short, the page says it can copy a file out of the mp3fs fs, to wherever, in about 12 seconds
      • but, I was trying to burn stuff off with K3b and it took FOREVER, for just one file
      • upwards of a minute.
      • My computer sucks, but it can't honestly be that bad
      • navap
Well I just think if you have a sizeable music collection, all in flac format, then you have quite a decent amount of storage, more then enough to create an additional mp3 copy of everything..specially if you're having speed problems
      • VxJasonxV
I have a sizeable music collection, everything that I actually owned ripped by myself in flac, and I'm... out of space
      • so now, I can't create an additional mp3 copy of everything, not to mention I don't want to
      • All I really wanted to do was see real world bench marks, see how well other people use it.
      • As of yet, I haven't found anyone.
      • xlotlu
Rudd-O: it's caused by a zero chunk in
      • Rudd-O: it's caused by a zero chunk in calculate_rms_dB
      • if you really must have a bug report i can do it, but i'm quite lazy :)
      • zeno__
        find . -type f -iname '*.mp3' -o -iname '*.flac' | wc -l;226413
      • drsaunde: :)
      • VxJasonxV
        O_o
      • I don't understand you're trying to say/do, zeno__
      • SeveredCross
VxJasonxV: Find all of his music.
      • 226413 songs..
      • Why even bother?
      • That's likely more music than you could ever listen to.
      • zeno__
probably, but i only listen to stuff once in a long time
      • and instead of having to dl when i hear about something i just play it (scripts to dl so not much work)
      • VxJasonxV: if you're going to burn to CD grab the flac
      • hawke has quit
      • VxJasonxV: just do something like for f in *; do lame whatever f;, ez
      • */*.flac that is
      • VxJasonxV
        like I said
      • I don't have too terribly much free hard drive space
      • and I don't want to have to do that
      • zeno__
ogg is pretty good at ~192 to save disk space
      • VxJasonxV
        which q is that?
      • also
      • my cd player doesn't read OGG
      • only mp3...
      • I'd love to use Ogg Vorbis, but I can't.
      • zeno__
VxJasonxV: ah, go with lame -v2 or -v0 then

I'm using MusicBrainz Picard, and it can find the correct Amazon page for the cover art; but it doesn't show the cover art in the cover art viewer and doesn't embed it in the MP3 files.
      • navap
When you say Picard can find the correct Amazon page, what do you mean?
      • Picard doesn't embed cover art, at least not without a plugin
      • VxJasonxV
picard only saves it off to a seperate file as specified
