does anyone know if it's possible to make MediaWiki do multi-level redirects?
2009-04-01 09107, 2009
ruaok shrugs and goes to pass out

multi-level redirects?
2009-04-01 09101, 2009
Milosz
how large is the current server's database?
2009-04-01 09118, 2009
voiceinsideyou
well the migration has created redirections AdvancedRelationshipType -> Advanced Relationship Type , but if I change "Advanced Relationship Type" to redirect to "Category:Advanced Relationship Type" and then visit "AdvancedRelationshipType" it won't redirect all teh way through to the category
2009-04-01 09155, 2009
voiceinsideyou
so i'm wondering if now I have to go back through all the camel case redirect pages and change them as well >_<
Milosz: Which database? The one with the actual MB data in, or the wiki, or..?
2009-04-01 09136, 2009
FauxFaux
(On disc? In rows, tables..?)
2009-04-01 09156, 2009
Milosz
FauxFaux, on disk, the MB data
2009-04-01 09123, 2009
Milosz
I just wondered how feasible it would be to create a quick-deploy system for the server for users
2009-04-01 09148, 2009
Milosz
Basically, and I don't know if that sounds heretic or not, a Debian package that installs and sets everything up as needed, and then the people only need to download the actual server data
2009-04-01 09100, 2009
FauxFaux
Nah, it's multliple gigabytes, even without indexes (which takes ages).
2009-04-01 09141, 2009
FauxFaux
The minimum you need to download from mb to get current set-up is, like, 600mb.
2009-04-01 09156, 2009
Milosz
OK it's not for everyday users
2009-04-01 09108, 2009
Milosz
The idea is still with developers or people who run a mirror
2009-04-01 09130, 2009
Milosz
Or maybe I also had users in mind
2009-04-01 09158, 2009
FauxFaux
Many of the dependencies aren't in debian, either, which also doesn't help.
2009-04-01 09103, 2009
FauxFaux
Classic nor tt
2009-04-01 09101, 2009
Milosz
It was just figurative really
2009-04-01 09107, 2009
Milosz
calling it a "Debian Package" :)
2009-04-01 09148, 2009
LotR
FauxFaux: so you make the package set up a local::lib tree..
2009-04-01 09153, 2009
FauxFaux
I'm not syaing it's not possible, it's just not pretty or easy to maintain. :P
2009-04-01 09137, 2009
LotR
local::lib makes installing the perl deps really easy. I'd say the hard part would be getting postgresql configured from a different package
so... about what I said yesterday... are you ok with it? :o
2009-04-01 09126, 2009
jesus2099
Yes I am. Actually I read the two pages about that in the wiki and I think I might quite fit in that.
2009-04-01 09143, 2009

yay!

20k edits and no autoeditor yet. this is weird
2009-04-01 09114, 2009
Wizzcat
probably declined
2009-04-01 09134, 2009
nikki
yes, two years ago for being too inexperienced
2009-04-01 09107, 2009
Wizzcat
time to try again? an editor that active adding to the vote queue isn't doing anyone any favours :p
2009-04-01 09109, 2009
MClemo
20k should be experience enough now
2009-04-01 09117, 2009

now we just have to wait :P

2009-04-01 09110, 2009
MClemo
no should automatically be converted to NO in edit notes
2009-04-01 09113, 2009
MClemo
that would be awesome
2009-04-01 09127, 2009
nikki
no it shouldn't ¬_¬
2009-04-01 09149, 2009
Wizzcat
oh right, it was an actual nomination, huzzah :p
2009-04-01 09158, 2009
nikki knows how you voted :P
2009-04-01 09117, 2009
MClemo
nikki checks the page every x seconds ;)
2009-04-01 09131, 2009
nikki
no no, but I can do basic maths! :P
2009-04-01 09132, 2009
MClemo
actually if one would do that automatically, the votes wouldnt be anonymous
2009-04-01 09157, 2009
MClemo
then I would know who voted against me lol
2009-04-01 09143, 2009
Wizzcat
I did that during my election, managed to pinpoint a stray nay vote down to two people :)
2009-04-01 09155, 2009
MClemo
nice one
2009-04-01 09108, 2009
Wizzcat
probably makes sense not to publish who's voted until after the elction is over
2009-04-01 09121, 2009
MClemo
yeah
2009-04-01 09131, 2009
nikki
I only got 5 votes iirc
2009-04-01 09142, 2009
nikki
and I think they were all yes
2009-04-01 09118, 2009
MClemo
if the candidate writes some 5-liner to check the page every few seconds you know exactly who voted what
2009-04-01 09117, 2009
nikki
I seem to remember that for a while the candidate couldn't see the vote totals, just who'd voted
2009-04-01 09131, 2009
nikki
or maybe I'm going insane...
2009-04-01 09110, 2009
nikki
I could see them back in 2004 and I'm told candidates can see them now, so maybe it changed twice
2009-04-01 09116, 2009
MClemo
I did see the totals
2009-04-01 09156, 2009
MClemo
and you see who voted with a timestamp - that's everything you need. Unless two vote exactly the same time
2009-04-01 09140, 2009
nikki
I don't think it's that important though, the main thing is so that people can vote without everyone else going "OMG YOU VOTED NO EXPLAIN YOURSELF NOW", it could be made even more secret, but I haven't seen anyone complain that it's not secret enough as it is
2009-04-01 09106, 2009
warp
oh whee. i didn't get any no votes.
2009-04-01 09112, 2009
MClemo
well, it's not secret, that's my point
2009-04-01 09123, 2009
MClemo
but you have to put some effort in it
2009-04-01 09133, 2009
MClemo
but I agree that it's probably not that important
2009-04-01 09150, 2009
nikki
the voters themselves don't see it, only the proposer, seconders and candidate... if the candidate started demanding to know why some person voted no, I'd withdraw the nomination if I proposed them :P
2009-04-01 09106, 2009
nikki
and the proposer/seconders should know better than to tell people even if they know
2009-04-01 09157, 2009
MClemo
I'll haunt you as a ghost when a candidate shoots me because he/she knows I voted NOOO
2009-04-01 09111, 2009
