last time we chatted with luks, he told me the works table should be more of a "things" table

and could be used to store performances etc.

although this page dismisses it

what is the latest status on that? is there no place in the ngs where we could put performance information?

hm, that part didn't take me that long.

but it's completely unusable on my machine at work, all that js is slow or buggy in the browsers I tried.

I'm in a real big company atm, so I had to find a bug in review board to get it running

I comitted the first unittests ever to the application I spend most of my time on.

normally, I would have to endure some bureaucratic process to get rb installed somewhere

with a possibility that it'd never happen

(application is atleast 15 years old, the php codebase I'm hacking on probably around 8 years or more... it's a mess)

beside telling everybody they would use something better they never came up with anything

the amarok developer i talked to at the gsoc summit last year did not even really know what musicbrainz was

amarok seems a little disorganized.

look at the gui, of course it's disorganized!

I'm using Play right now, but its far from perfect.

amarok2 sucks badly, quodlibet is slow, rhythmbox deprecated, banshee crashes on me, exaile is slow AND crashes

'ideal player' is like 'good mail client', isn't it?

mpd is too basic, but it's reliable and convenient for me.

I thought it was funny that in 1999 I thought it to be stupid to be writing a new mp3 player.

LotR: sure, but parsing mail is Solved, there are excellent libraries for that sort of ithn.g

and 'only IMAP' is funny too.. good luck getting it to work nicely against every imap server

And of course, there's this thing called UI.

Which is pretty much impossible to get right.

Particularly in open source.

if only existing clients had better ui/logic seperation. then I could at least make the UI right *for me*

There's one missing view, but I think that's just a question of our writing the right templates -> Being able to narrow down to only see those releases Foo & Bar both are on

that's easy to add, but I'm not sure if it's that useful

well, take an artist who worked with a lot of people - Bob Marley, or Neil Young

for those, you may have a good many releases with the same collab

arguably those should have their own artist entries

arguably, but I think, in most cases, I'd come down on those still being only collabs, not group artists in their own right

I think the dividing line would be when the collab gives themselves a name
