Well cheap would be bus (like eurolines) and quick would be TGV (the french shinkansen / fast train)

heh... the uk site says £76 return from london to strasbourg, if you're crazy enough to sit on a bus for 12-14 hours

I've found that the eurostar is often still pretty cheap even if you don't book really far in advance

Given the route it takes and the speed it does it, it's certainly more reasonable than some of the national rail routes.

Muz: i think atleast TGV tickets have discounts if you order them in advance, I have no personal experience with that though.

Mmm, well that goes for more forms of public transport. One thing I found here with multi-part journeys was that I could buy 2 advance tickets for cheaper than a single ticket that did the entire route.

So I could buy a ticket for London -> Birmingham and another Birmingham -> Wales for cheaper than London -> Wales, which was nice.
