I can transcode to other formats, without loss of quality.
gnu_andrew
the only reason I didn't start with that is the size would have been crazy back in 2002 ;)
xcsdfghj
gnu_andrew: Same.
gnu_andrew: Large HDDs FTW :D
gnu_andrew: How many GBs is your collection, then?
gnu_andrew
yeah I've been trying to backup stuff to DVD then realised it would just be easier to get an external hard drive -- couple of terabytes for about 150 IIRC
I think it's around 40-50
xcsdfghj
gnu_andrew: Backing up stuff to DVD was never going to work.
gnu_andrew: My external HDD is 500GB
It's running out of space. :(
gnu_andrew
yeah back in the day maybe but not now
we really need a bigger optical format
xcsdfghj
gnu_andrew: Even Blu-ray isn't good enough.
gnu_andrew: I want cheaper, larger SSDs
gnu_andrew
Bluray is nowhere near, expensive writers and only about 25gb
that would be nice
I suppose there is tape too, haven't looked at that much
xcsdfghj
gnu_andrew: External HDDs seem the only option right now.
I need to wait for HDD technology to advance a bit more before I can start downloading HD films.
gnu_andrew
first time I did df and it came up with a T rather than a G for the size :)
xcsdfghj
It's odd how I'm not talking about music here, but talking about music in #debian-offtopic
gnu_andrew
xcsdfghj, haha well it is sort of music-related... vaguely
though digital video is what I need the space for more than anything

Hi! Is it possible to make picard use the latin artist name in filenames. Got some japanese composers and moving japanese filenames between various operanting systems tend to screw things up.

nikki
there's an option to use the 'english' name somewhere which I presume is also used for the tags
or maybe it says translate foreign artist names, I don't remember
well, I know the option is there, I mean I don't remember how it's worked
worded, even...
navap
You can tick that option and then tick 'don't save tags' that should make Picard use latin file names, but preserve the non-latin tags.

I really like some of my ______________ - ________ _____ ____________ file names ;)

Could you do me a favor and have a look at this http://musicbrainz.org/show/edit/?editid=11299117, I think it is clearly breaking the OST guidelines by adding "gamename soundtrack" to the official title
If anything it should have been "Love, Peace & Happiness: The Original Yoshi's Story Soundtrack".
nikki
I would have probably used what navap wrote

"Passion" (Peter Gabriel's soundtrack for the film "The Last Temptation of Christ") would remain "Passion"; an annotation noting what film the soundtrack is from would be appropriate. <-- what about this one?
