here's the really weird shit bit. Open it in iTunes before tagging, plays fine. Tag it in picard, and double click in iTunes - plays fine, refreshes metadata
2010-02-01 03231, 2010
aCiD2
remove it from iTunes and re-add it, pop gets added
2010-02-01 03250, 2010
alastairp
tried not adding gain yet?
2010-02-01 03256, 2010
aCiD2
Wavegain is mainly there because my vinyl always comes out at different volumes due to the normalizing process
2010-02-01 03257, 2010
alastairp
or add it with mp3gain instead
2010-02-01 03205, 2010
aCiD2
wavegain doesn't affect the files
2010-02-01 03212, 2010
aCiD2
it just gives the --scale value for lame
2010-02-01 03231, 2010
alastairp
oh, so it does end up as an mp3gain?
2010-02-01 03245, 2010
aCiD2
Nope, it directly alters the data that lame encodes
2010-02-01 03256, 2010
aCiD2
(lame amplifies it internally)
2010-02-01 03206, 2010
alastairp
Use with care, since most MP3 decoders will truncate data which decodes to values greater than 32768.
2010-02-01 03211, 2010
alastairp
--scale sounds scary
2010-02-01 03218, 2010
aCiD2
I scale down, not up :)
2010-02-01 03227, 2010
alastairp
right
2010-02-01 03234, 2010
aCiD2
scale is capped to 1.0
2010-02-01 03244, 2010
nikki
and it worked fine for me with the same mp3s
2010-02-01 03249, 2010
aCiD2
I gave this mp3 to briang and nikki, and neither could reproduce it
I just don't get how iTunes can modify it, when I've done chmod 400 on the file... I thought that meant that nothing could touch it, and only my user could read it?
Oh well, dragging files into iTunes doesn't seem to break them (only "add to library" breaks them0
2010-02-01 03252, 2010
aCiD2
so I guess this is solution enough to get my crap onto my iPod
2010-02-01 03215, 2010
nikki
hmm, I think I dragged them into itunes
2010-02-01 03220, 2010
nikki tries using add to library
2010-02-01 03241, 2010
aCiD2
double clicking them works too, it's just add to library that seems to fudge them
2010-02-01 03252, 2010
nikki
hmm... add to library doesn't do it either
2010-02-01 03203, 2010
nikki
but then again I'm using 8.whatever, so who knows...
2010-02-01 03211, 2010
aCiD2
but 8 still has the gapless thingy
2010-02-01 03216, 2010
aCiD2
which is what I think is the problem
2010-02-01 03220, 2010
nikki
gapless thingy?
2010-02-01 03225, 2010
aCiD2
gapless playback analysis
2010-02-01 03248, 2010
aCiD2
when you add to library it spends 2 years freezing itunes saying "analyzing gapless playback information" or something
2010-02-01 03250, 2010
nikki doesn't use itunes (hence why I've still got an older version, I don't care since I'm not using it ;))
2010-02-01 03257, 2010
nikki
hmm
2010-02-01 03233, 2010
aCiD2
you know what. fuck this. dragging them in is now corrupting them too -_-

Any chance of getting an AR (or equivilent) to store when a recording was made? While the bootleg naming convention says you can use a date in the title, not everything uses it
2010-02-01 03230, 2010
Remosi
There are lots of albums like: Unknown year for u'The Cure' u"... and Dreams Come True in '92 (disc 2)"
2010-02-01 03249, 2010
Remosi
where the year is unambiguous, but there is no fixed metadata stating it
2010-02-01 03249, 2010
alastairp
should there be a release event for it?
2010-02-01 03203, 2010
alastairp
that would make it clear, but there may not have been a physical release
2010-02-01 03256, 2010

if an artist is credited as "featured" inside the booklet, but not on the tracklist on the back cover of the CD, is adding "(feat.

I am a new user to MusicBrainz, and would like to note that the installer does not include the necessary files to install properly.
I had to download the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package" in order to get the "MusicBrainz Picard" to launch without error.

Ezek1el: the green tagger links end in &tport=8000 or something, right?
_if_ you've restarted picard, that '8000' may be wrong. you will have to do another lookup in picard, which will let the server know what port your current picard is using.

Ezek1el: if you can't get it to work, a workaround is to drag the url of a release from your browser to picard.
