On the romanisation of the attribution again, Track 7/Russet is also attributed using the romanised name on the packaging and website. I really think we should stick with the given information.
kepstin
I've found that a lot of the time artists will use a romanization of their name just as a stylization, and be credited different ways in different places
so in the interests of keeping the data usable, I don't think there's any point in keeping separate artists for a person and a straight romanization of their name
(This isn't an issue with NGS, since we can credit the artist "as-is" and still link to the correct person there.
hmm. we are making a bit of a special case for Masayoshi Minoshima tho :/
KingJ
I do see where you're coming from, so why not
Yeah, that
nomico seems to be the more frequent tag on last.fm too (not that that's a good reason for using it)
kepstin
he's a bit odd tho, I haven't /ever/ seen him credited using "箕島マサヨシ", at least on anything related to Alstroemeria Records
KingJ
Some of the track listings also use nomico though, e.g. Bad Apple!! feat nomico
kepstin
Yeah, and the title of her website uses both, and her website and pro releases (with Lantis) all use のみこ
KingJ
I know you mentioned that this isn't a problem on NGS, could we keep them seperate for now then merge when NGS goes live?
kepstin
hmm. We could, but the data fragmentation until then would be annoying. And there would certainly be other people who would come along and try to merge them again later.
annoyingly, the main way to link these would be using the "performance name" AR, but that doesn't work on her because we don't know her real name to add an entry for it :)
kepstin notes that http://musicbrainz.org/artist/b71abaa0-dd97-4e85-943d-3ffa2d3278a5.html and http://musicbrainz.org/artist/9204230d-9499-43fd-a75d-57901f4b9f13.html is kind of prior art of the idea of splitting them...
KingJ
mhm
kepstin
but in any case, the problem with nomico is that I have seen single releases that credit her using both "nomico" and "のみこ" in different places, which would make it very difficult to pick which to use on those.
I'm not sure about Tsukasa; it might be that he's started to use a romanization of his full name simply because the short name "Tsukasa" was difficult to search for :)
these three releases are the first place where I've seen that name used, so I'm not totally sure about what to do with it
KingJ
With regards to selecting which credit to use, isn't the policy normally to use the packaging? (even if it differs on the offical website for the release)
kepstin
it's really more of a judgement call either way; when you're dealing with official websites and official packaging it could very well be that either is wrong...
but yeah, generally the packaging is preferred, simply because people tend to put more time into something that's turned into a permanent physical object ;)
Muz
Oh ho ho. Got NGS seemingly running with Postgres 9.0.2 and Perl 5.12
KingJ
I've not had a chance to check the other two releases yet, only the Alstroemeria Records one
kepstin
yeah, I've got them all here, but I randomly picked the alstroemeria one to start :)
i'm currently pondering whether to rewrite all of the "composer" credits on the album art to "arranger", because the songs were originally composed by ZUN, of course...
of course for most of these the arranger is usually responsible for some additional composition as well...
KingJ
Heh, Touhou remixes really are a minefield of problems and inconsistencies
Muz
FauxFaux: ^ it's dad! The entire house is here!
FauxFaux
Nooo!
kepstin ponders which to do next: red or blue.
Muz
Pink!
kepstin
...
would have been cool if they had a pink album in this set, but no; only black, red, and blue...

I guess we're leaving it as-is then?
kepstin
unless you can think of something better :)
I put those in as regular edits instead of autoedits so people can vote and comment on them, hopefully some other people will check them too :)
KingJ
Well, i'd prefer to attribute as listed but not sure if I have the heart to vote 'No'
kepstin
yeah, one of the great questions of musicbrainz; are we trying to simply catalog all of the credits as given, or are we trying to represent the reality of how the music was made...
hmm. the album art of these uses mixed case, e.g. Third Ensemble: Rouge
the alstroemeria one uses small-caps, which makes it harder to tell, but I think it does as well.
KingJ
I'd personally side with mixed-case because it looks a lot nicer ;)
Takes a fair amount of time to do each one, esepcially with all of those relationships
kepstin
yeah
hmm. that's kind of annoying, blue has an arrange of a track from the "Double Spoiler" game, which hasn't been added to musicbrainz yet
kepstin skips it for now...

is there supposed to be data in tag_relation...?
i loaded mbdump.tar.bz2, mbdump-derived.tar.bz2 and mbdump-artistrelation.tar.bz2, but the table appears to be empty
kepstin
Hmm. I know some of the user-related info is not included in the database exports - is that the table that's supposed to map tags to users? It might be empty on purpose then in the exports.
but you still have to do a lot of editing in the release editor
omgyja
is there any date when NGS will be released ?

Mineo was travelling with an ICE train on new years - apparently they all have some numbers on them looking just like deutsche grammophon/decca cat numbers
