reosarevok: Grupo Alacran de Durango..... as an band...... what would be the caps on that, and what does Alacran mean?
2011-04-28 11832, 2011
Snartal
And, is Grupo similar to "The" and the sort order would be, Alacran de Durango, Grupo?
2011-04-28 11832, 2011
reosarevok
There are no clear guidelines about caps on a band name, AFAIK
2011-04-28 11818, 2011
reosarevok
Alacrán is a word for "scorpion", but I'm not sure that's what the band have in mind
2011-04-28 11850, 2011
reosarevok
"Grupo" is "group", basically "band"… and I wouldn't normally put it at the end
2011-04-28 11805, 2011
reosarevok
(but I'm not our sortname expert, to be honest)
2011-04-28 11847, 2011
Snartal
Duh, should of known that one, guess it didn't translate due to the lack of accent mark
2011-04-28 11823, 2011
Snartal
They have a scorpion on their covers, and I just worked on Alacranes Musical - lol
2011-04-28 11807, 2011
reosarevok
Ok, that explains it

How do you think "2002 - 2009" must be the part of release title? I think no because the color of this information is the same word "PRESENTS" and on label site also title without it. But one autoeditor think that right is "The Gathering of the Elders 2002-2009", but if this information must be entered I think the right one is "The Gathering of the Elders: 2002-2009". I am newbie :-)...
Snartal: just ask, if somebody knows an answer, they will hopefully respond

I'm just curious why "artists" who are actually the composers, are not marked as such.
2011-04-28 11833, 2011
Snartal
At least with a note.
2011-04-28 11831, 2011
Mineo
we have a "composed" AR

Yes. I know I'm not going to change the classically minded and their tagging scheme, just curious why the standards didn't include some type of collision avoidance between say, a contemporary artist, and a classical composer name.
2011-04-28 11842, 2011
Snartal
Maybe I'm missing it.
2011-04-28 11835, 2011

I'm note sure I really understand your question :) you can always add a comment to an artist if there's more than one artist with the same name
2011-04-28 11844, 2011
Mineo
that works with _every_ artist
2011-04-28 11818, 2011
Snartal
Yes, just seems they would of had a default note, like "composer" or something.
2011-04-28 11849, 2011
Snartal
Was just curious, anyway. Seems the classical guidelines are more geared toward getting around a lack of functionality in tagging software.
2011-04-28 11823, 2011
Mineo
I don't see why we would want to do that. you wouldn't add a note saying "this is the guitar player, not the $whatever" to every guitar player
2011-04-28 11811, 2011
Mineo
well, and around the lack of track and release titles given by the composer
2011-04-28 11849, 2011
Snartal
Well, the guitar player as an artist, may not be the composer. Seems classical music has composer only artists, unless Ludwig cut a CD lately.
2011-04-28 11819, 2011
reosarevok
Snartal: lots of performers are composers too
2011-04-28 11830, 2011

(even in -contemporary- classical!)
2011-04-28 11830, 2011
Mineo
ah, now I know what you mean
2011-04-28 11804, 2011
Snartal
Well, even in pop music, like Taylor Swift.
2011-04-28 11809, 2011
Snartal
So, why didn't the classical folk just adopt the composer AR?
2011-04-28 11803, 2011
nikki
they started before we had relationships
2011-04-28 11817, 2011
nikki
then continued doing what they'd always done
2011-04-28 11830, 2011
nikki
plus they like using the composer because it avoids the need to create new collaboration artists
2011-04-28 11831, 2011
Tecfan
will it change?
2011-04-28 11849, 2011

there's a csgv2 planned

2011-04-28 11824, 2011

csg = classical style guide
2011-04-28 11827, 2011
nikki
v2 = version 2
2011-04-28 11857, 2011
Snartal
Well it makes sense how it got the way it is, since they started before ARs
2011-04-28 11812, 2011
Snartal
Got a feeling its going to stay that way for a loooong while though <grins>

2011-04-28 11858, 2011

is there are way to mark a release with what style is being used in the ngs?

nikki: mark a release with CSG for example
2011-04-28 11854, 2011
Tecfan
so people who aren't familiar with CSG don't try to change it
