Now, I'm really confused with the legal artist name stuff.

        Snartal: what's confusing you?
      • 2011-05-01 12107, 2011

      • Snartal
One place doesn't clearly mention it, one place says don't add it as an artist, and yet we have an AR for performing artist, which requires an entry in the artist table.
      • 2011-05-01 12137, 2011

      • reosarevok
The "performs as" relationship is most useful when the same person uses several names
      • 2011-05-01 12146, 2011

      • reosarevok
Then you can use the legal name to link them all together

(and that's what it was originally added for)
      • 2011-05-01 12126, 2011

      • reosarevok
Some people might argue that it's useful to create the legal name artist for all artists who use a performing name (and not just a variation of their legal name)
      • 2011-05-01 12131, 2011

      • reosarevok might be one of those people

I'm one who doesn't have a clue, cause to me, its about what is what is going to be the best in searchin, and also elminating people adding duplicate artists.

dubwai: I don't think there's consensus about that
      • 2011-05-01 12116, 2011

      • reosarevok
If you feel it adds something useful apart from just a link to Amazon, add it

some people don't like them when there's no cover art, since we just get an empty box instead of an image
      • 2011-05-01 12138, 2011

      • nikki
and others think it's just clutter if it doesn't provide cover art

      • 2011-05-01 12123, 2011

      • reosarevok
Snartal: not really, unless they want to be complicated
      • 2011-05-01 12101, 2011

      • reosarevok
People tend to follow the cover as closely as possible
      • 2011-05-01 12123, 2011

      • reosarevok

I'm just trying to figure out an edit I did. I merged "Albita Rodrguez" with "Albita" since that is her performance name, it shows that way on her official page, etc. Yet Albita Rodrguez is her legal name. So I'm thoughly confused now where I should put the legal name. Alias? AR?, Artist Comment, nowhere?
