I feel guilty about not voting no on the unsung bad edits that doubtless slip by all the time...

this edit freeze does have the benefit that it made people (other than me) start voting on edits :P

I guess I'm only in the second layer of ruaok's onion (as described at https://jhemerly.wordpress.com/robert-kaye-inte... ) so I don't have much of an opinion on most edits, so I don't usually vote...

How could I submit tag name corrections (and other metadata) corrections to the database? Is getting an account and using picard sufficient?

alex-hu: at the moment you can't edit (we're in the middle of closing all edits so we can do a big upgrade)

Normally, you don't even need Picard, as long as you have an account

alex-hu: genre stuff is kinda iffy and very very ill-defined, so picard doesn't do anything with genres for you by default

alex-hu: but there's a plugin for picard that will use folksonomy tags from last.fm and/or musicbrainz and populate your 'genre' field with the most popular tags

I think, if I ever need them, they'll be added in through some metadata.xml file in the directory or such.

but for myself, it's both "how do I tag this mix of electro/dubstep/folk", and "damn, this genre is so precise it's useless for finding related stuff"

well, something like ambient + noise or dark ambient + noise is quite useful

but even that fails when you have an artist whose albums are in different genres

right now the only way to submit edits is through the website

for instance, http://musicbrainz.org/release/ddeb0348-b94a-41... has all caps in track 9, but on the cover it's "Rsaa"

well capitalization changes are auto-edits

ie, they do not require voting

so that you can fix and it will immediately show up when you reload the release in picard

normally the flow is 1) make edits/add release on website; 2) use picard to tag your files with data form website

once you've tagged the files with picard, they store the MBID in track metadata

so if there are changes to the data on the website, if you re-run the files through picard, they will pick up any changes from website.

does MBID change from adjustments to the work?
