the bug is that track #1 is marked as data, but rhyhmbox names the first audio track "rip it up" as "[data]". somehow I have to edit the tracklist and move all one up.
DocPlatypus
olaf_: maybe a bug in Rhythmbox then
olaf_
DocPlatypus: picard does not match the audio cd either. 0.12 showed the db entry above, 0.15 does not do taht anymore
lookup manually gets me to the link above
nikki
I think there's a bug in picard 0.15
other people have also complained about cd lookup not working as they were expecting
olaf_
oh, I see tracks #13 in that link
polinom joined the channel
so, is there a way to tell that #1 is actually data, and not audio?
DocPlatypus
olaf_: try to access it as data?
or, try to play it as audio, and if nothing plays it is probably data
though I've heard a few players are dumb and will play the data as audio which will be loud and annoying
so turn the volume down if you try that
olaf_
DocPlatypus: its about converting the audio to flac, and give all 12 tracks the right name
rhythmbox shows 12 tracks, but starts a #1, not #2
DocPlatypus
olaf_: I have a few CDs like this
I don't use Rhythmbox to do my conversion
or Banshee
I do them by hand, more or less
olaf_
what tool?
DocPlatypus
Rubyripper to rip to WAV, then flake/flac from command line
but the last time I needed to deal with a track 1 data track CD it was with cdparanoia from command line, before I knew better
reosarevok joined the channel
for that, I just tell it to start ripping from track 2, and when it comes time to number the tracks I make a dummy track for track 1 so the numbering is right

music past HP4 does .. nothing to me.. can't really remember it
hp4 and onward the music isn't the strong-suit, is what I mean.
which is a pity
listening to these soundtrack
Now grooving to: John Williams ~ Aunt Marge's Waltz (2:15) (from Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban) (2004)
it's awesome
it brings forth the memory of the scene and the feeling of the movie
things like
Now grooving to: John Williams ~ The Knight Bus (2:52) (from Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban) (2004)

Hi all! Sorry for disturbing the discussion - I am new to MusicBrainz. Have just tried to run Picard on my Mac OS 10.5 for the first time. The application terminates with an error. I've tried to read the log on the console - no chance to understand it. Whom can I ask? I'll be happy to send the log. I've tried the obvious - restarting the OS and reinstalling Picard - didn't help.
there's also some stuff stored in ~/.config/MusicBrainz/Picard/
but I think that's just the plugins

Man, there is some absolutely ridiculous characters in the unicode specification. "🍕 U+1F355 SLICE OF PIZZA"
nikki
thank japanese mobiles :P
DocPlatypus has left the channel
kepstin
they have separate characters for red and green apples, but there's no way to do colours in fonts :)
nikki
well, those are just names
kepstin
the font I have makes the red apple character slightly darker than the green one.
nikki
which font are you using?
if it's the same one as me, I'm not going to wait for osx's slooooow charmap to load
kepstin
I... couldn't actually tell you. I'm just letting the automatic font selection pick from whatever font has the character.
nikki
ah
in this one, one has a smaller white patch
but since osx doesn't know about most of unicode, it has no idea what it's called
this version of osx at least
kepstin
hmm. the character map I have is apparently up to date with unicode 6.0.0
nikki
gucharmap?
kepstin
yeah
nikki misses it
nikki
there are some nice things in the osx one, but it's soooo slooooow
and is missing various things I like about gucharmap

Is there any rule about using album art from a standard ed. for a deluxe edition even though it's the EXACT same except for a few extra songs?
zoke joined the channel
nikki
depends how you're adding the album art
kyomi
amazon
Only place I know of to get the album art for soundtracks
nikki
people generally vote against adding the wrong asin to a release, but if you're using one of the other allowed sites to link directly to an image, it probably doesn't matter
kyomi
The issue is the Deluxe edition was a very limited release and wasn't available online anywhere
when it comes to archive.org, I honestly have no idea any more :( the server automatically removes the http:// from the middle which now breaks a load of them
I imagine if you turned off javascript to enter the url, it wouldn't strip the http:// out and would probably work
kyomi
Did MB just get like.. *REALLY* slow?
nikki doesn't know as she's not actually using the site at the moment
